Thread: How to make foraging useful

I think if we forage anything worth while to eat, it will be stepping on chefs' toes, whether they currently make something similar or not. Any good food buff should come from chefs. I wouldn't want to take away from that in the same way I don't like rangers skills being handed out.

I like the idea of foraging food that offers bonuses to ranger type chef food (I think this was BioEngine's idea, but forgive me if I'm not giving credit where credit is due).

For example:
ko-do fruit: +5 to veghash harvesting mod
etost'ew: +5 to vegash duration
schule nef: +5 to dweezel trapping mod
jar foraged berries: +5 to dweezel duration

First you would have to consume the chef food, then you consumethe foraged food to get the added bonus.

Bah. I know it's a completely rational, fair, and valid argument, but I'm sick to death of hearing 'we can't step on anyone else's toes.' Why not? Everyone else is doing it. And yes, I would jump off a bridge if everyone else was. I'd just show up to the bridge late and smoking a cigarette, 'cause I'm cool.

Another point I would like to make, is the addition of some forageable items that are not necessarily edible. Metal Springs could be foraged that enhance the potential of Wire Mesh traps, Animal Teeth could be foraged and enhance Bone Spur traps, Glowing Mushrooms could be foraged to enhance the blinding state of some traps, etc. This would, of course, be an optional component in the crafting stage of the trap, and could not be done using a factory.

I know. I'm just venting. More irritable than usual today, I guess. I do like the idea of non-edible forage items for enhancing traps. It's not a far cry from looted slicing components, and actually seems doable. If traps were changed to be enhanceable, that is. Okay, I'll stop adding -able to every word that comes to mind now.

Wrap your brains around this one, and please pay attention.

Good cannot exist without evil. If there was only 'Good,' then it would be called 'Normal,' and gradually there would be sublte levels of 'Normal' that develop from a wish to identify someone easily. If Good defeats Evil, then the differences between those whom were on the 'Good' side will me emphasized upon and used to decide the intentions of others without needing to ask them, for fear of intentionally misrepresenting their characteristics.

If we were everyone else, then we wouldn't have the need to discuss stepping on their toes (one would presume,) because we can allow ourselves to do what we want, in the sense of a uniting aspect of a society. However, such generalization would not be approved by a portion of the populace, and when their opinions do not make a difference, even backed up by rational discussion, they split off, and so "us" and "others" form once again. When skills are given to everyone and anyone, all professions will be merged, and when one profession wishes to have an advantage, the cycle will begin again.

Well, in order to keep other professions untouched.

Use it to buff ranger skills as mentioned, but, stuff that is presently untouched. Like Cammo...a /foraged food that buffs up our cammo. Or any other skill of ours or scout, that is presently untouched by food.

Accuracy would be a good one, it's not just a chef domain..also pups contain accuracy increases.

Now, there may be conflicts with some professions, but surelywe have the right to nudge others over a little in the interest of getting a potentially very valuable skill some much-needed love! I think the most important thing to do with forage is completely wipe every current foragable item. We need a whole new loot table that we can acquire items from, with things that help out profession. If we all agree that is what we want, we also need to create a moderately large list of items that we want, not just leave it up to the devs. So, if you like this idea, please voice your opinion and also add any new forage items that you can think of. If we put our heads together, we can really fix this skill.

When I am out in the wilds and call my ride, I just can't stand to wait around for 15 seconds, so I allways forage.Usually by the timeI finish forageing the ride is there. I use what I forage also, and the buffs are not bad...its just that they only last 10-20 seconds or so, no help really. If they just boosted the time a little it would much better. I say don't make the last as long as chief foods or what ever buffs, but at least 5 min.'s or so.
