Thread: How to make foraging useful

Let's face it:foraged items don't do much at all. The developers justification for this is that they do not want the chefs to feel threatened by a skill in the Ranger tree. So, how do we make them useful AND not scare away the chefs? Simple: Make foods foraged by a ranger affect ranger skills.

Let's say you want to harvest alot of hide to sell to your favoritearmorsmith. While preparing yourself for the hunt, you forage around and find some items that focus you while skinning the animals. The chefs can't do this, so their sales wouldn't take a hit. The foraged item simply increases the amount of skins you can take. The in character justification for this is the food steadies your hand so that you can make more precise cuts and thus increase the total amount of hide collected from each animal.

Another food could sharpen your eyesight, allowing you to throw traps with more precision. Another could heighten your observation, giving you the ability to track for even farther.

This would make forage a valuable skill and would present no danger to Chef sales, as their food cannot do this. What do you all think?

Anything that makes us more survivalist im happy with.

There should be parts to ranger that do not require you to be in combat. Part that require you to just kick back in camp or rummage around in the wilderness for a bit. Thats what being a ranger is all about, being masters of the outdoors and at home in such an environment.

Also... I believe the DEV's have stated that tracking cannot/will not go beyond the 500m radius... due apparently to possible lag? I guess it has something to do with the look-ahead or read-ahead feature.

And anythnig that makes trapping better bumps up against dweezel as well.

Veghash is da bomb if you're harvesting. Can generally get some in the 30-33% range, gives you a nice bump to your harvest amounts. Almost makes up for the fact that many of us are "penalized" for hunting solo still. But get 2 Master Rangers hunting and harvesting in a group with some good veghash? Wow... talk about hauling in the hides quickly!

Sorry, sorry off-topic I know. Its a good idea for the record..

But I found your sig quote oddly hillarious

-I support a Galactic Civil War fought between regular, average players... Simply strict, hardlined Imperials & freedom lovin' Rebels fighting for control of the galaxy. A Galactic Civil War fought not with glowsticks or lightsabers, but with blasters, lances, and how much guts you have. A Galactic Civil War which reflects the timeline, the destruction of the Death Star, the absolute control which the Empire has and the brave Rebels trying to break up that reign... The extinction of all but a few rare and special Jedi. That my friends, is the Galactic Civil War and that is what we have to aim for.

As far as I am concerened, (almost) everything is fair game to ask about again, after the CU. The final say goes to Owen, of course .

I was thinking along the lines of throwing range for traps (someone planted the idea in my head, but I can't remember who). It would have to be balanced against the silly Robocop arm, though, to prevent grenade (and CM med?) uberity.

Cybernetics is creepy. But if some mystical foraged fungus or herb could help me get my throw on, I'd be all for it.
