you guys should probably step down off your high horses before you hurt yourself.

I completed all of the 3 non-camp trees of ranger in about a week of casual play (after already having master scout). I completed all of them totally legitimately -- and just about got master rifleman (again) in the process.

You guys NEED to understand that camping is GATED to full time solo players. I NEVER, EVER, EVER group. I am a charter member of one of the largest guilds on my server -- and I still find no incentive in grouping.

Sooo... If I want to master ranger before I'm 40 -- I'm going to have to get creative with the whole camp thing. And any of you who think you completed it more legitimately by crafting camps for the whole thing -- I can guarantee that was no more intended than afk macroing.

If you don't like the afk camping, that's fine.

If you are pretending that camping is some ranger 'rite of passage',acting like camping is like getting a tribal tatoo (painful to acquire but marks you as a man), and acting like you're happy with the frontiering tree (especially when all rangers agree that it's a majorprofession issue andwhen the skill points are pinched frontiering is the first tree dropped), you sound like someblind sycophant praising the beauty of an unseen painting just because it's called 'rose'.

I never came here to be part of an elitist clique; I came here to offer help to others frustrated with camping (be they 2-day hologrinder or people that have been at it for a couple months *cough*).

This board belongs to any ranger, not just those rangers who agree with each other on an idealistic vision. To shuffle me off because I have different opinions than you, makes me think you need to come down from the mountains and live among the people to learn some tolerance. We're all trying to enjoy this game. For me, camping wasn't enjoyable.

While I don't condone afk/macro/grind camping, I certainly won't condemn it. I myself am guilty of crafting my way through Survival 4. I just wanted Master Ranger so bad!

I appreciate that you are trying to help those people who prefer to AFK/grind things so we can focus on other concerns. I am sure those people appreciate not having to post here too .

and while you're at it name one profession besides merchant and BH that can't be mastered in under a week? Why should ranger be special?

Look at the camping xp as a whole though... you get more xp for the longer the camp is setup? uhhh... you should get xp for: making the camp, deploying the camp and disbanding the camp. That's it.

But, the system is as it is, so what's wrong with those who AFK it? I'm about to do it, simply because I'm 4/1/4/4 ranger right now and I'm not going to wait forever just to get the camp xp. And no, I never rode around on dath with maskscent on to get my scouting xp. I grouped with calc for one tree and went rancor hunting, and for the other tree I was on dant getting wooly hide for an AS.

no bs here - just use the camps - go hunting, get wounded, etc..., set up a camp to heal, disband the camp, repeat the process. Need to call a vehicle or droid, don't want to waste 15 seconds waiting for the thing to pop up, drop a camp, pull the vehicle or droid, disband the camp. Making camo kits and you want to max out the charges - drop a camp, craft near the station (or pull a crafting droid), experiment on the charges, disband camp, etc.... Go fishing, craft camps / traps that you need - don't buy them in crates from someone else.... It's really not that difficult and it doesn't require some uber-complicated AFK macro and an alternate account to do. Unless you're completely inept, resources for camps are really easy to come by, so what not use them?

And why would you want to master a profession in a week? It seems to me that lots of people here play this game like it was a single-player game. That is, max-out everything as soon as possible with as little effort as possible, then they whine when they don't understand how things work, they say that there's no content, and they complain that profs are borked, butthey haven't even spent enough time to figure out how well the professions do work.

I can sort of understand this mentality when it comes to the craftingprofessions -- no one wants to buy the low-level stuff and if you don't have all the experimentation points that come with master, then you're at a disadvantage in the marketplace. But ranger is one of the few professions where this isn't the case -- it has tons of functionality from the novice box to the master box. In fact, the only real benefit you get from being master ranger is another camo kit, maybe increased areatrack capability, and 10 or so extra harvesting points. So, what's the rush to get to master ranger? Why not play the profession, and get the experience that comes with doing so -- at least then when you come to the boards to gripe and complain, you'll know what you're talking about.

Survival XP a gate to solo players? What? I mastered ranger before the big holo craze, and before I was in a big PA, and I did it solo. And you know what - I actually had the survival tree done before I had the trapping tree done. Why? Because I actually used the camps as I moved towards master ranger. Yep - I used the camps - as simple as that.

I'm a mayor of a Rori city... 95% of my game life is spent within 3000m of the place. It's my camp so to speak, and I'm needed there quite often to do my duties. I love to hunt the area, helping citizens get to their harvesters, helping citizens get certain types of organics, tracking down the imperial 'crackdown' teams that drop into the surrounding area. I'm rarely in the far wilds. My city's cantina is never far away.

I'm an 'urban' ranger I guess. Yes, I picked it up as a holo prof initially, but to call me a power grinder is far far from accurate. I've enjoyed it very much. I'm stingy and refuse to grind away my hides into camps.I get to hunt about 1-2 hours a night.Through normal hunting,I was at 4/1/4/3 (with xp to get trap 4). I still throw traps. Adhesive mesh brings tortons to their knees. Clearly, my play style is different than yours, but I personally don't see them in conflict.

it's not an exploit. the camp auto-disbands when you enter combat. it's completely legitimate. if SOE didn't want people to macro their way through professions, they shouldn't haven't implemented such a system like this, which is very easy to take advantage of.

uh... yeah, its an exploit. There is no command for disbanding camps. Therefor, its easily deduced that camps were never meant to be disbanded via macro. Macros were placed to make repeated tasks less dull- not to master professions over night while you sleep- which is exactly what this exploit provides. It cheapens our profession as a whole.

Shame on you true rangers for not condoning this. I earned every bit of my low camping exp by doing it how it was meant to be done- I camped. When we went out hunting and we'd get slaughtered, I'd throw up a camp to heal up in. When we did Deadeye between waves I always threw up a camp.

Even if you're soloing camps are easy to put up- possibly even easier.

I'm not on a "high horse" because I think I'm better than you- I know I am. I enjoyed my time with Ranger while I took it- and though I am now gonna stop growing ranger and try chef, I still respect the profession for what it should be. Hologrinders ruin it, and yes, I'm talking to you. Its pathetic when people can whiz through an entire life change in less than 2 weeks.

Sadly, SOE is even more pathetic for allowing it to happen.

imma go back to DAOC.

Now that I think about it... that Jedi revamp is really, really looking good right now. Maybe we should step aside for a bit on Ranger changes to get this grinding crap to vanish in the dust binsof history...

And this is what I don't understand - if you're just going to drop the frontiering tree anyway, then why the rush to get to master ranger in the first place? Believe it or not, the frontiering tree is actually very useful, esp. now that every doctor in the med-center is more interested in healing all of the AFK-tumblers than actual players (oh, but wait - why should doctors have to spend their time actually healing people to get to master - that's absurd!) It's not as useful as it could be - I will give you that, but I myself would be lost without my camps. Of course, you have to bother to use the camps to figure out how they can help you, but that's apparently asking too much.

Enbow, you've been in this game for a month and dabbled briefly into ranger. I've been a ranger longer than you have believe it or not, andfor some reasonyou think I don't care about the game. You don't even know me.

You say that there is no /command to disband a camp and therefore it's wrong. Are you saying if I only use the /commands then I am playing as the developers intended?? There are more than enough /commands to run an afk combat macro, more than enough to spam relentlessly at starports, there are commands to cripple the server and create lag enough to knock other players offline. Are these other things which are totally invasive to other players gaming experiences ok, while my non-invasive benign macro is not?

This game is a work in progress and constantly evolving. You're naive to think the developerswrote some omnicient vision into each line of code. They're human just like us. It's the developers' job to 'develop'and to refine this work in progress. It's our job recreation to playit in an enjoyable way. For me, that meant passing a tree whichI consider to be pedantic.

I respect people, not professions. I care about this game's vision, but I care much more about the people who play it.That I'm posting this macro for others isn't to garner friendship; it's my nature.

I like to help players get through the game by giving hints andtips.I had my 'helper' tag up on day 1 of retail (I dare you to live through that!) I was a master artisan and wrote a guide to powerups to help educate combatters and artisans alike (my competitors). I was a merchant and always always answered a customer's tell if humanly possible. I was a master architect for 8 months supplying countless thousands of units of oreto apprentices. I've been a polician since foundationprovidingan excel sheet to other mayors to manage expenses, and game running planetary events like the All-Rori speeder race and Inaugural Rori Olympics. And most important to me of all, I've been a guild leader to the most loyal fun group of players that I've ever met.

If you're asking me to sacrafice my time, so that I can gain master ranger according to your rules, step away from your computer and gain some perspective.

If that's true, then what about all of the crafting professions? Almost all the crafters I've seen have afk macroed their way to master. SOE even says that afk macroing is acceptable. I think that using the /duel command to disband the camp is a clever way to use a game feature to your advantage in a way that wasn't forseen by the devs. I won't do it for a variety of reasons, such as I can't afford two accounts (college student) and I dislike leaving my computer on all night. Even if you don't agree with the philosophy behind this technique, it doesn't give you the right toflame people who use it or say that they're not true rangers. If you don't know them, then you don't know if they are or not. Some rangers, like myself, hunt solo, and I pop a camp when I have wounds of only 15 at maximum, so that it takes me only six minutes or so to heal. At that rate, it would take me at least a month to make the 3rd box alone. I also don't belong to a large PA since I think of a ranger as being a solitary person out in the wild who only comes into town to sell stuff and get BF healed, so I don't have access to a large group of people to go hunting with. So why don't the rest of you guys get off your high horse and cutthose of us who don't have your resources such as PA's some freakin' slack!

P.S. Even if you sat in a camp and crafted more camps, you ground your way up the frontiering tree, so don't criticize other people for finding a different way to grind.

Kerico this macro is awesome from a code prespective as well hehehe. I totally didn't think of calling macros from a macro which will make my macros more organized and easier to read. Its way cool man!!! I've given up on ranger 3 times because of survival and now i won't!!!
