Thread: The game's stupidest form of exp
Venar wrote:Well, i am not a grinder. I gain exp for what i do. I gain all my ranger tree by beeing a ranger. Except camp. To answer you all:
1- You can't fish from a camp. Camp is too close to water, or water too far to fish. I tried.
2- Gringind the exp in crafting is nice. I'm not a crafter, i'm a ranger. I know it's doable, you said 10k an hour, which is about the same rate as having a camp up with 2 people in it for an hour. It's not faster.
3- To the one that said i'm not doing nothing, i'm offering a service.... I was in a hunting group today, 6 off us. So great camping opportunity, right? Wrong, i get camp up, people get vehicules out, heal up, takes 1 minute MAX, and i get zero exp. I had to actually ask people to wait a bit, so i could get exp. I kept getting the what are we waiting for question. I had to say nothing. We must do a bit of nothing so i get exp please.
I'm just saying that i wish simpling getting a base camp out to get pets out would give exp under 2 minutes. I wish foraging would give exp. Hell, i wish that line could just be leveled with scout exp...
Take CH. They just get CH exp. Imagine the taming line would only be leveled with taming exp...
Well, now I see your point. Survival Exp could be implimented a little better.
getting exp for forraging would be nice.
Fishing can be done with a camp set up. simply setup the camp at the edge of water, then go out and fish. it will say you have left your camp, but as long as it remains "your" camp and doesn't autodisband, you'll be able to fish and get the camping exp, I just would run back into the camps boundaries every few minutes to keep it from autodisbanding. And there are even sneakier tricks to seting up a camp so that it is submerged which allows you to fish from within the camp.
Fishing doesn't give you as much exp per hour as setting up camps does, but you do get paid pretty well for the fish so it kinda evens out.
Well of course you can always get xp for frontiering by setting up your camp so your party can heal and rest in the camp. Not sure if that's grinding, but that's what I did.

Actually I have fished from a High quaity camp several times without flooding it or leaving it juts place it clos to the closest to the river you can get it then if you are lucky WALK towards the edge so that you are within range of the water but still in the camp. However flooding you camp by placing it in a location where the terrain can't be deformed correctly will allot you fish within the camp.

sitting 500m outta town is in the wilds? u gotta be kidding me
so what do combatants do? survive? how come they dont get survival exp? this is NO FAIR!!!
Heh, BTW. Pretty sure we were not meant to be camping outside Coronet as most do. Our survival is based on "living" forever in the wilds.
A combatant can kill, but can it harvest and eat? No. *snicker...*

kind of a newb question .... ive been around since day one but never done any fishing. Can this be done afk? Like surveying or foraging kind of? Does it use up your ham bars etc? Can anyone describe the process a little for me? Can you fish on any little creek? etc...

Doesn't use any HAM, I don't believe it's macroable. You can fish in any water anywhere at anytime. Long as you're not swimming.
For Frontiering XP you frontier.
When I began myjourney to Master Ranger I looked over the entire set of skill trees, from Novice Scout to Master Ranger. I looked for skills I would gain, traps I would make and camps I would pitch. I looked at all the resources I would need to do this. There was quite a list. I was new and pretty broke. Back then, to make Camo Kits you still needed flora, which I still think you should need. (berries, fruits provide colors and scents, texture and adhesives. Wood provides material for a blind of sorts...like the branches used for cover.)
After discovering that FBs and HTFBs needed metal, and Adhesive Traps needed polymer, and Camo kits needed their planet specific resources, I picked up novice artisan...got the appropriate survey tools and headed out to the wilderness in search of these resources. I would survey for one or the other, find a great spot then plant a camp. I then set myself to sampling. When I could afford an off planet trip, I would go a planet, survey for the camo resources and hunt, camp and sample.
The skill boxes seemed to fill up without even thinking about it.
The hard part back then was finding any one to train me when I had enough xp to level up. No one ever seemed to have those trees filled yet except Masters. I think I ended up paying the NPC trainers for that whole tree, from the first box in scouting to Frontiering IV.
The skill I learned from frontiering was patience.

You said it... Heh, I remember once saying while camping, a Master Ranger must hold the patience of a Jedi to camp as long as they do, for any other Survivalist might've lost their mind waiting for experience.
