This is a bad idea IMHO. Pushing to make us better harvesters before we are better hunters is not a good idea. What happens when we ask for better traps and better skills down theline and the devs say "that will make you too powerful, you will harvest too much and the market will flood with resources. You got your harvest increase now sit down"

All you naysayers who think we shouldn't ask for too much are going to ruin the whole plan. If you ask someone for 100% and they only give you 60% your much better off than if you ask for 10% and they only give you 6%.

And remember, once combat is balanced ALL PROFESSIONS will be fleshed out. which means the devs will be looking to give professions exactly the type of things we are asking for.

So push for better traps, better creature defenses and offenses, make us better hunters not harvesters. Better hunters = better harvests in the long run.

Just a friendly reminder.....Ranger is NOT a combat class. 50% increase in harvests from a NOVICE SCOUT to MASTER RANGER is completely inadequet and offensive. Harvesting SIGNIFICANTLY more at Master than Novice RANGER would almsot make this profession livable.

It's obvious that the Dev's aren't going to focus a whole RANGER-REVAMPpatch, which is why if we ask for the moon and stars they willmore than likely shrug us off--Proof being the last 4-5 months.

I believe a majority of us expect a much more minor change in our profession, almost an "oh yeah, wenearly forgot to mention: harvest rates for rangers have tripled in this current patch'' footnote.

The key to this Issue is to increase the amount of Master Rangers. This way our voice will be heard as a bigger % of the players in game. I started my way up to Master Ranger from
launch and after reading that we were loosing npc camo and camps I dropped to novice. I am now in the process of becomming a Master again. I sugest to any here that are on the fence at novice to do the same. they can't Ignore us if we make up a high amont of players just my opinion.

in the mean time I'll take anything they throw our way.

Calc,

Please understand, I am aware that you can only do so much, and we do appreciate the effort you're making. (Thanks) Let me state for the record though, that POST SE is unexceptable in my eyes. That puts us at a FULL year from the last "Ranger Upgrade". (I don't have any proof it will take that long, it is just my gut feeling)

*sigh* I am truly disappointed and frustrated with this news. Allow to vent if only for a moment without flaming me to death: /track and new traps and camps were promised post "Ranger Upgrade" last August. In my eyes that indicates there was alerady something on the table for us, and it was pushed back due to other things (i.e. player cities, mounts and everything else.). What happened? They can't have just circular filed our stuff, hec one Dev said he has been shooting down Y-Wings over Tatoinne or some such so we know they can do things months in advance of actual live dates. Where are the things promised us close to a year ago?

I sincerely apologize if I seem angry (You have every right), and I have no intention of dropping Ranger (YAY). I just think the devs take our community for granted. We have always been the most patient of all forums, as well as well mannered and articulate. To date this has gotten us no where. Nothing. Okay vent off. I'm open to ideas here gang. I don't think it's too much to ask to have our profession be completed. (AMEN) I can't imagine how the Squad Leader's feel. Oy.

Rather than respond to each individual thread about harvesting, I will compile the currrent situation here with a note about the Outdoorsman.

  1. I have posted a thread on the Correspondent Forumin regards to the Million Monkey Proposal (yikes). It references the the current Proposal we have. This thread has recieved nothing but positive feedback from those Correspondents who have chosen to post. In this thread, I questioned the Devs about if this was possible (they, ususally TH, do give responses there). I also brought up harvesting multiple resources, but made it known that that was secondary to an increased harvest.

  2. I would like to hold off posting the Million Monkey Proposal on the crafting fourms until I get an answer from TH regarding the issue, but I will send the posts out tomorrow if I haven't heard anything.

  3. The response I got regarding the Outdoorsman Proposal is *sigh* the same as always...wait until later. I did use this response (not a dircet quote, mind you) as leverage for the Million Monkey Proposal.

So, that's where the proposal stands right now. I will keep you updated.

Any word from TH (or any otherDev)in regards to point 2 yet?

Ok Ek, I have to disagree.

Harvesting is our main job. No where do we really get any abilities to hunt - the meager numbers in duck and dodge or whatever have virtually no effect on how well we can kill critters. Our critter killing comes from whatever combat profession we take, with the few pitiful benefits added on from Ranger.

Flooding in the market - who would this hurt? Right now I can sell about anything I want at whatever prices I want, within reason. I have sold crap, pure dee 100% garbage hides for 4 cpu, literally while I was at the vendor they sold. Same tone, I sold some semi tough to find, no harvest now, tough to find, hides for 100cpu. The more we harvest, the more we have to sell, the less our prices can be, the more people get supplied, the stiffer the competition for other goods (more crafters), then their prices should drop - macro economics in a nutshell. But the resources have to come from someplace, and I see fewer Rangers all the time, and scouts are becoming rarer too, as most have gone BH and forgot how to harvest (occupational hazard - go BH, become stoopid).

Yes, being a better hunter, i.e. killer, would lead to more resources also. Kill 10 critters in a set time, get 100 hides - being able to kill 20 in the same time span, get 200 hides. Faster is better, but killing the same 10 and getting 300 or 400 hides is better, which is what I hope happens. The increases should be massive, not piddley azz bs like they are now.

friendly difference of opinion, I do see your point

Just thought i would add a little. I just changed from mch/mrm to mrm/master ranger. Spent three days harvesting rancor meat on ahazi. Was able to get 55000 units of great carnivore meat. Due to the fact that i can no longer pull rancor missions alone i used area track to locate my prey. Assuming that i only got 20 cr/unit i could have gotten 1100000 credits for this meat (on ahazi that price is low). As a mch/mrm i would have gotten this meat getting missions for rancors at 18k per mission. it would have taken around 31 missions to get this much meat, which is about two days (6-8 hours per day) of hunting. I would have gotten around 550000 credits for the missions plus the price for the meat if i charged the same 20 cr/unit = 1650000 credits total, plus i would only have spent 2/3 of the time getting the meat.

As far as harvesting and income go i was much better off before i became a master ranger. With higher harvesting we could improve our income compared to other harvesting templates and service our customers needs with lower cost materials.

Are we still going to do this? Even if the Devs know we have problems it is important to show them that we are not the only ones who think they need fixing. The only reason I think we should drop this is if the Devs say they will do it for us for the next patch (or if they specifically ask you not to do it which I doubt they would do). And I don't think the Devs would want us to drop this (as it is a constructive way to bring the problems to their attention and to show that the problem is much bigger than they might have thought). Don't let this drop until it is taken care of (please)!

I guess if we are going to do this, we need to get going. While many of the correspondent supported this on the Correspondent forum, the devs did not acknowledge it. What is the plan of attack?

Does anyone see any problems with the plan posted here? I believe a few people offered to help in that thread. And I'm definately willing to help (on as many forums as you need). If you can just make the initial posts on the crafter boards and then make a post here letting us know who is meant to be following which thread (with links if possible although just the title and board should be enough to find it). And then possibly post on the correspondent forums asking the respective correspondents to float/support the thread. Thanks a ton. We really do need this.

Lineage 2 open beta tomorow ....

WoW in the nearer future ....

Not to be a negative nancy, but its gonna be tough to stay.

Personally I think it all comes down to the fact that we've been pretty well IGNORED with not even a promise for quite some time now. While I'm sure we'd all love a "ranger-revamp" I don't think anyone here is asking for that. Fact of the matter is, we're known as one of the most polite, mature communities in this game and we are taken advantage of because of it.

Makes me feel like I should send an email to every master ranger all the way to novice scout I've ever talked to about the Antarian Rangers telling them to price gouge and horde and stockpile resources for the highest bidder.

Pretty sad that a company this large that gets so much money from the initial purchase of the game and then all the multiple accounts most people have acts like they don't have the manpower to cover all these "unimportant issues."

Please stop pushing the Outdoorsman proposal.

The name is poor and not at all necessary, the proposal isn't as up-to-date as the SotP document, and overall it's not necessary. Links from the SotP documentto a couple of documents that flesh out the details of specific requests (traps, camps, conceal, track, etc) would streamline both proposals and solve the problem with the Outdoorsman being out-of-date already.

On top of all that, the modular camp system that NRaas wrote is my worst nightmare. I think it's not only unwieldy and convoluted, but it easily qualifies as a nerf and makes it less fun to be a Ranger.

We need an updated proposal that doesn't abandon the Ranger monicer.

- I support the CU and am grateful that we have a game that continues to evolve rather than stagnate. Join the positive voices!

yikes, I just dunno if I would do this or not (post stuff from our wishlist on other forums in hopes that they would support us). The reason is that every profession has a long list of their own wishlists and since the amount of development resources is fixed, what you very well may be asking is for them to support this above one of their own. The other thing is that even in crafting professions where the price and availability of creature resources is perceived as a problem, there is certainly mixed feelings about the ranger community. Often times there is a perception of greed on our part
