yeah

maybe we could use any mount(as said before)even if they cant us ethem as normal pets(this would mean that you couldent use monuts for combat)and maybe a rangers monut would move faster

Ayami - MCH since september '03 and until NGE.
The removal of CH and the NGE in general is the dumbest thing a company has ever done. period.
CH deserves to stay, and SOE deserves to be *#&$^#*@ until they are #*&$& and then *#&$ some more!
LONG LIVE THE CREATURE HANDLERS!!!

I just wish the Terrain negotiation difference was better, my friend (Master Scout, no Ranger skills)and I tried a race over flat terrain and hilly, over the flat terrain after 1000meters I was 1 step ahead of him. My burst run lasted about 50 meters longer than his, And over the Hilly terrain, he was maybe 50 meters behind me. \

Not much difference if you ask me.

How about the ability to use special attacks while mounted? The devs said players won't be able to do them mounted. Just an idea...

Blair - Will you have to be a creature handler to have a mount.
Blair
- NO!

"NRaas you quoted a dev saying that anyone can HAVE a mount. To be exact, that statement does not say anyone can RIDE a mount."

And this is why the developers are not allowed to post on the public forums.

----

In my opinion:

  • In the context of the quote, the use of have means "the ability to use a mount for the purposes of riding".

  • But everyone can opine on the meaning of the quote.

So NRaas, are willing to ask them if they have considered scout/ranger in mounts or vehicles? Or we just going to wait and see?

Actually this is semantics, but theyre not non-ch tameable, theyre non-ch controllable.

Mounts will be the primary source of income for creature handlers,

And it would be nice to have rangers be able to make tamed mountable animals their mounts without a CH, But you have to admit that it takes plenty of time (in xp) to get to just the transfer command ( and wherever the hell they put the mount command - and if it's going in at master then don't hold your breath for it to be given to you guys, cause it probably won't happen)

I have the solution to everyone's problem. A Hybrid between CH and RANGER. A new profession: RANCHER.... You can raise farm animals and grow corn. You have a craftable schematic for a John Deer and win a blue ribbon at the galaxy state fair. LOL

"are willing to ask them if they have considered scout/ranger in mounts"

You are aware that this very issue was in DeltaXi65's latest report?

Which does make sense as it is in the Scout portion of Terrain Negotiation.

Either way, I have posted on the Corr. Forum to emphasize the issue.

OK, we have all wondered how mounts will effect us and our terrain negotiation. This is one of the points of concern on Delta's Scout issues on Scout forum.

If they do nothing to consider this, the devs will make us pretty lame. I think we can all agree with that. NRaas you quoted a dev saying that anyone can HAVE a mount. To be exact, that statement does not say anyone can RIDE a mount. That is the big question. Since they are not making a new profession for riding, it can be assumed that any player can ride a mount. Lets go with that.

So everyone can ride a mount. Mounts are obviously going to be able to move faster then normal character, or there is no point in them. So at the get go they are faster then a ranger on flat ground. OK now assuming they put the hill slow down on mounts as on characters, they will get slowed on hills. Is that slow down going to be enough to make them slower then a Ranger, or actually Master scout, on hills? If not, then we are getting screwed on this.

It would be greatly beneficial to transfer the terrain negotiation from the character to the mount. This alone would take us into account and compensate the increased speed of travel from mounts. And thus a good idea I hope they put in. The question this posses, is will this transfer also take effect for vehicles? (on that note I hope not to see any ranger on a speeder)

I think the idea of allowing rangers to do specials while mounted is cool. Say only if they are mount, not on vehicle. NRaas, if the mounts totally out move us on terrain as we are feared, then I don't see this as being unbalancing. It would put it back into balance. I just thought of another thing. Maybe a balace factor is that you cant mask scent or conceal when on mount, meaning you have higher chance of agro. Or being on a mount of vehicle will increase your chance of agro. This being because the size and noise of them attract creatures more.

NRaas, I know you don't want to bug the devs about this, but if we wait until they are implemented we could be screwed for weeks before things get balanced again. Not cool. How about if you just ask if they have taken Scout/Ranger Terrain Negotiation into consideration? Nothing else, no details, just if the are keeping that in mind and that we are concerned.

Black Ice, there actually is no difference from a Master Scout to Ranger when standing/running. At master scout the TN is +50, and as you go up in ranger is goes up to +100. Well that second +50 in ranger is for prone/crawling speed only, no more to standing/running. So you are actually running with same bonus with ranger compared to someone with only master scout. On Delta's scout issues he has in there to give the TN flat groun bonus as well. I have posted here on rangers to NRaas that maybe have the ranger TN get some running bonus before going to crawling. Like say it applies to running up to +70 then the 70-100 is for crawling.

I had another thought on the mounts thing. Unless they make it a delay animation to get on and off mounts, there won't be much of a penalty for using one. Sure I can't sue a special mounted, but if it's just a quick /mount and I'm in 1 second, there isn't anything hindering people. There should be a delay to both get and get off a mount. Otherwise I predict a lot of exploiting.

Yesterday was the first time I could mount my falumpaset (Grimpy). Since I'm a little short on money, I decided to head to the western dune sea to get some herbivore meat.

I knew I couldn't usemaskscent while mounted but I thought it wouldn't be a problem since I'm move faster now with Grimpy... Everything went well till some dune lizards spawned about 35 meters from me...

I said "No problem, Grimpy will get me out of range!" but I was wrong... I received the message that said my mount slow down for combat. That's when I thought "I have a bad feeling about this...". That's about the time I remembered the /gallop command (it seems this command isif you're in combat) and was able to stay alive.

My point is that it seems dangerous to be mounted in the wild. Am I the only one that find this situation a little sad? It would great if we could use maskscent (or conceal) with mounts. Maybe at some high level in the wayfaring tree? If mobs wouldn't spawned just before you step on them it would be different but since we must live with this reality...

I guess I'm able to handle all mobs on Tatooine (30000 frontiering xp till Master Ranger!!!) but it will be a little different when I'll go back on Dathomir or Dantooine...

Any thoughts on this? Could it be something NRaas put on his list?

Thanks for reading.
