Thread: Anyone else feel devalued by Combat Medics getting Terrain Negotiation?

Honestly, I don't feel you can devalue something worthless to begin with.

I have a friend who has a bit of combat medic and all of the terrain negotiation from the scouting line. He can crawl nearly as fast as I can. Heck, he's even won a few races back to the mission terminal w/burst run. Squad leaders get group terrain negotiation also. Crawling fast is a novelty.. its a bit neat, but that is all. I don't think the skill is a premium skill, and I don't expect it to mean much after mounts/vehicles.

Every profession in this game has substantial complaints/issues with their class. Clearly, a lot more balancing and refining is in store. I'd rather push for improvements and new skills then worry about a cm or sl crawling around.

What would make terrain negotiation worth something? Mounts will be running at near burst speed. I've seen a few ideas floating around... but I can't come up with anything.

I have to tell you...I feel it is an added bonus to have a CM with the skill as I for one depend on my sidekick (CM) and feel it is an asset that can indeed add value.

What I mean by that, is that when I sponsor a hunt, I always invite a couple CM's for support. Now with the service they provide.....I burn a candle in their honor everyday. Instead of crying foul...try looking for the positive and learn to appreciate the valued services these guys provide. I for one take care of my CM's and ensure my finger is on my rescue button when we are engage in combat of any kind. I believe this added skill is a plus more than a de-valuation.

Just my opinion.

/disagree

Most Combat Medics I know spend all their extra points on Doctor. I'm glad they have the terrain negotiation. it is a pain to sit and wait while your doctors catch up to the rest of the hunting party. It would be worse to have to /follow them and keep them out of trouble (you know they'd give up their weapons skills before giving up their doctor skills). It would make my ownterrain negotiation useless. In fact, my husband started a second character as a CM and it WAS a pain to wait for him. I swear every stalking animal on the entire planet ran over just to follow him around drooling. I did more doubling back... Okay no ranting at the innocent bystanders. I say again. Let CMs keep their terrain negotiation. One night hunting krayts with a CM who can ressurect (Doctor skill?), and you will loose all your bitterness, I promise.

I just looked at the CM Skilltree and they don't get +40 Terrain Negotiation like Rangers. They get +50.

+10 at every level of Combat Medic Support and another +10 at Master.

How is it "free" if they have to spend skill points for it. What's the big deal, another profession gets terrain nav mods so that makes3 out of 33 with terrain nav bonuses. I don't see the need for a national crisis.

Why do you feel devauled? Heck you should be GLAD because this means that in a group there is someone who can run as fast as you and you won't have to stop every few seconds for them to catch up.

A combat medic needs exploration which is why it's there. Other professions don't NEED which is why it's not in their trees.

If you are on the top of a hill and are about to get creamed would you rather have a doctor at the bottom of the hill with 0 terrain nav mods and a stim that has a max range of a few meters or a combat medic who can climb that hill and toss a ranged stimC your way then turn around and toss a ranged poison on the critter kicking your tail (since Ranger in and of itself has traps as their only means of combat)?

You decide.

I really could care less about CMs getting TN mods, but what makes no sense to me is that Rangers don't get a specific bonus to Terrain Negotiation that has NOTHING to do with crawling... I think there should bea bonus that only Rangers are skilled at.. A real Ranger could mask their trail, but SOE's wonderful Radar system makes that null and void. So we should fly over terrain... if we are so skilled at travelling the countryside, let us have more efficient Burst Running, and slightly faster speed on Terrain... It amazes me when anyone with Exploration 4 can match a Ranger....

yeah i saw that +40 and was thining it looked wrong. I have a freind who is a MCM and we have discussed this a few times. I agree they should get some, but NOT +50 (they are NOT Master Scouts and shouldn't be). I figure +5 for Combat Medic Support (or whatev the name of the skill is named) is good. It gives them decent TN without taking away from the Scout/Ranger.

the above should read "I figure +5 for COmbat Medic Support (or whatever the name of the skill is named) PER skill box AND ANOTHER +5 FOR MCM is good (for a total of +25).

WOW they must have really changed the skill tree! +10 at each level of Combat Medical Support? No there is no way they need that much! +5 would be more aceptable IMO.

To clairfy you mean to use burst run longer? We have a higher burst run efficiency that uses less HAM already I think. But if they don't want to give us a faster normal over land speed this would be good. Another good possibility would be to decrease the ammount of time it takes to recover from burst running. The benefits to either shuould be very low until you hit master. To benifit all but show the big benefits to masters of the profession.

I second the burst run thing. I would prefer to have the ability to regen faster rather than run longer though. I usually outrun the aggro orrun into a body of water long before it runs out anyway. It would be a great compliment to /conceal for enabling you to survive in the wilderness better.

I agree that at first glance having a CM who gets +50 seems unfair. But if I understand correctly (and correct me if I am wrong!), this is really in place of the SCOUT skills, rather than the Ranger skills.CMs really need weapon skills, med skills, CMskills, and Doctor skills in order for them to be really effective. Having as much terrain negotiation as a scout enables them to drop scout and pick up more Weapon or Doctor skills, which make them more useful to me.And since they have dropped scout, they are really no competition for us, right? A CM who hasNOT dropped scout cancrawl faster than a Ranger, granted. But would they want to? Heck, do WE want to???

And be careful. If they nerf CM terrain negotiation because it is a scout skill they might just decide to nerf Ranger melee/ranged defense because they are brawler/marksman skills. Now that would... ahem. *edit myself* ... be bad.

Off the subject, but amusing. I mentioned that my husband is a CM. When he was just starting (no scout skills), I tried to beat him upa hill by crawling. I ALMOST beat him. Almost. Hehe.

if they remove the VS. (state/attack type) in the ranger tree, they better remove those from the Dancer/Musciian tree too!

I see WAYYYY too many people mastering Dancer for those bonus stats! Its needs NERFED!!
