Thread: Anyone else feel devalued by Combat Medics getting Terrain Negotiation?

Quick into, I am Emeirl Ja'Beh (Iron Chef) on Chilastra and just recently made Ranger after having played the first 3 months without doing a single kill mission.

You want being devauled, try being a Chef with sucky buffs. Scouts/Rangers forge better food than we can make except for about 5 items. The only thing a chef can do is buff, yet Docs and Smugglers buff better than we do. And to top it all off, in the Oct patch they added mind buffs to entertainers that put anything we can buff to shame while at teh same time turning food into poison. If you don't eat food this is what happens, you eat the food I make, the buff wears off, then worse a side effect than spice. It incaps you. Outside of pet food, I have not sold any food for over 3 weeks.

The devs really need to quit giving abilities to classes that already exist in another class. To me, this is a cop out so they don't have to try and come up with more new original content. Fixing major problems within a profession should be first priority, then adding new content.

I have played since very early in beta 3 and I really don't feel the game is very much improved from that point. I know Chefs are worse off now than they were in beta 3, and that's a sad statement about SOE and how they operate. No segment of the game should be going backwards.

actually there isnt any real point to debate this anymore since mounts and vehicles mean anyone can travel fast. moreover, our bonus to terrain negotiation doesnt enhance the speed of the mount.

Why do Rangers feel so threatened by this change.

The facts on whether CM's should get this skill or not will not make any difference.

Rangers are so very protective of what skills we do have because we have very little that separate us from Scouts.

Taking any skill that Scouts/Rangers have and giving to others, even if it is justified just serves to further make us feel like we are a class in name only.

Right now we have only 2 things that stand out as big Ranger skills. Fancy Camps and tracking.

Squad Leaders want a camp, called a fortification and Bounty Hunters want a form of Tracking. This makes us feel even more threatened.

Maybe we should give all our skills away, including the Ranger traps (lol), and we can be used to issue parking tickets to the upcoming speeders and creature mounts.

Hey...only as long as part of the vehicle patch we get the little buggy with the light on top and a bright orange vest.

"Also just read that Doctors want to Harvest meat"

They also want the /survey and /sample skills added at the Master Level.

----

Almost every player wants to stretch their skill points to the fullest extent and attempt to cut out the middleman by doing everything themselves.

  • But, that does not work very well in an interdependent game such as this.

Therefore I doubt the developers would ever go to such an extreme...

  • The Doctorscan request the ability, but they will probably never receive it.

Medics cannot heal while crawling, so if that is the only time that much skills comes into play then it is pointless.

I'm not a Ranger or a Combat Medic, but I don't see the big deal with mixing a few skills. Moving fast isn't exactly something that you need to be a woodsman to know how to do. And both Ranger and Combat Medic seem like slight hybrid professions that should get nice mixes of skills.

For example, I always imagined Rangers and CMs as having some supplementary general combat mods - say, General Ranged Accuracy +10 at every box in one line of skills.

In particular, I always hoped that CMs would be speedy fighter/medics who would dash around the battlefield, dragging incapped players to safety and otherwise running like hell to make sure everyone is safe. (Somehow, though, CMs got turned into bioterrorists. *boggle*) The Terrain Negotiation seems like a natural progression in makingCM the hybrid professions I hoped for.

Anyway, that's my Neutral perspective on this.

It is +50 Terrain Negotiation, where does crawling come into play? Only if they have Scout Exploration already. Some of you are missing the point. Terrain Negotiation has always been an exploration skill, and now they're throwing it into a medical profession? Please. A Combat Medic doesn't have to take any scout skills to be able to move as fast as a Master Scout. This change devalues Scouts, which in turn devaluesRangers since they are "Elite" Scouts.

Plain and simple English. If you take something that is unique to Rangers/Scouts and give it to another class for absolutely nothing, then YES it makes becoming a Ranger/Scout even less useful. It means they don't have to spend their points in Scout for some reason. Even a Squad Leader is abranch off the Scout tree.

Watch as they give Eye Shot to every pistol wielder and see how many BH's scream that they have been devalued, because they will have been.

I don't mind them having the TN skill (it'll help keep groups healthy and happy longer), but if they're going to give them that then they should give us 80m range on our traps (or the ability to experiment them to 80m).
