Thread: Some more (minor) droid tests

Live on Lowca seems to be fine, I was trapping my little heart out the other night to help a friend while he was grinding a melee profession.

Still, it seems to make more sense to load up 4 stacks of traps in a droid and have them fire in a sequence.

Stink Bomb: reduce defenses
Glow wire: reduce melee/ ranged defenses
Sharp Bone Spur: blind
Phen Dart: Slow

Then the critter would be ripe for the pickin'

The way I got it on test is:

  1. P-Dart: any trap that takes makes them run at you. As a Rifleman there too (I do have some sword) keeping them away is paramount.

  2. Glow wire: drops defenses

  3. Bone spur: blind and starts mind damage

  4. Adh. Mesh: P-Dart can be "out" by this time (dear god can we PLEEEEASE speed up traps???) and the root might be needed.

I have decided that is enough at that point and shoot HS2 (not that high a rifleman on test yet) to finish. I can milk a lot out of a single critter (for experiance).

I wonder if a trap fails, you can program the droid to fire that trap untill it succeeds... would be nice.

A couple more questions (or maybe other things to test):

  • Can you control in any way the movement of the droid? If the droid can get Aggro'd maybe it can be used as a lure. no you can't really control pets. if you get one of the combat modules for a droid, you can tell it to attack from ranged, but as default it goes up to melee range. But it acts on its own. only command you can do is /follow and it comes to you.

  • If we /maskscent or /conceal and we have the droids out, are they masked and concealed too? Pets do not effect /mask scent or /conceal. Agro things ignore them if combat is not already started.

  • Will they break our /maskscent or /conceal if a creature attacks them? No

  • When you are incap, is the harvester droid left out there to be destroyed? Can it be Aggro'd? Yes and yes. All pets are left there still attacking if you told them to, when you go incap. They will continue to fight as long as things continue to fight them. Until it or the mob go down.

  • Can you have both harvester droid and trap droid out at the same time, orare they just modules of the same droid? Master DE have stated they can't pull out more then one droid at time, and I believe even a M CH can't pull more then one out. So, no, only one droid at a time. But, the harvesting and trapping is done with modules. This means you can add both a harvesting and trapping module to the same droid.

Probably have a lot more questions but this is enough for now.

Calc. You said that either the droid harvests or you do, but not both. Is this in either case of being grouped with the droid and not grouped? If this is the case, you can NEVER have both harvest, then how is this really a benefit to us True scouts/rangers?

I have not yet found a way to harvest twice using a droid (I mean 1 harvest for you and 1 for the droid) off the same critter.

Also, grouping with the droid DOES invoke the penalty, so I am not sure how the droids are helpful....

As a major consumer and buyer of meat this really concerns me. I would like to see my rangersuppliersget a boost in harvesting rates, and at first this appeared to be an anwser. Droid are just too user intensive to make timely use with. Even if there was double harvest with you and the droid, the different is 1000 meat or 1300 meat. I am not sure if that 300 meat is worth all the extra effort. That is assuming they evenlet rangers double harvest with their droids.I guess I am just underwelmed here with this new module.

BTW master CHs can only call one droid and grouping with any pet causes the 65% rule to take place. Will the droid still harvest if it isn't grouped with you and if so is it 65% or 100%? I would test this myself, but my TC char is rather weak and poor. It would take hours for meto get the money and skills just to do some simple tests. I wish they did some server copies so I might get the chance to do so, but that is another issue.

The traping droid seems interesting and cool. Might provide an afternoons entertainment before the droid gets too annoying to use. I wish they came out with new chasis for the droid invasion publishes. The idea of an R3 spitting out traps is rather dumb. I guess the probot would work however and even has the arms for harvesting.

O well, so much for the droid revamp. All my DE friends have already quit, so I guess it doesn't matter so much.

If you are NOT grouped with your droid it will harvest and does not invoke the penalty. You CAN NOT harvest if your droid has harvested regardless of whether or not you are grouped with it.

I just read yesterdays TC update notes. They changed the trap module for the droids so you can put in more then one stack of the same kind of trap. Thank goodness, good call soe. Otherwise it was worthless and gave us the same problem of constantly reloading it after 5. Easier to load hotkey then a droid too Im sure.

What I want to know about the harvesting is this. Once you tell the droid what to harvest, does it automatically go harvest your kills when they drop? Or do you have to target the dead creature and give it the command to harvest? If its the later, and only you or it can harvest, not both, this is lame and useless. Again, whats the advantage of it? Whats the purpose and what help/assistance/benefit does it give to us true scouts/rangers? As I stated in a post on Ranger, something that uses a skill from profession x, should primarily be a benefit to profession x. Then secondarily benefit profession y. In this case the modules should 1st benefit scouts/rangers, then second benefit DE. DE in the sense that they are wanted items, and so its something they can sell.

This is the case. It is fairly limited in it's usefulness, but it gets tweaked everyday.

C_E what you are saying about the harvest module does indeed not bode well for the future of that module. If you or your droid harvests I see no advantage. Even though there are times, I havent been able to harvest a corpse due to the presence of a tougher creature it doesnt really happen that often.

Now the trap module I see as having a few good points. Iam a MDE, but I have a wannabe BH on another server I was playing lastnight. I just got the ability to use the noisemaker trap. Nice damage to the mind pool, it would be nice to sit back at max range with a rifle, send the droid in to drop the noisemaker then spam headshot. Being in throwing range makes it just that much closer for the slower firing rifles. At least for the newbs like me.

Plus Im assuming no Action cost if your droid hucks the trap instead of you

If they would just make the harvest droid like a 110 med rating (110 harvesting rating), I would buy one in an heartbeat. Thanks, Calc, for getting more stacks in the trap launcher. How many stacks can it hold?

Thanks Calc. Honestly, there are only two ways I would ever use a harvesting mod. And frankly most if not all true scouts/rangers would probably feel the same way.

These are the two ways it would need to be made in order for me use it.

1. It automatically goes and harvests my kills, of the resource I set it to harvest. Maybe, once my target reaches death status it goes and does a harvest. This would require coding so it didn't screw up when it tried to harvest a resource not there, or try to harvest NPC's. Only because we all know, out there in the wild, you get jumped by all manner of things. And it NEEDS to harvest the same amount of the master of the droid, if they had done the harvesting.

2. It can be grouped, and both you and it can harvest the same critter. But only when grouped with it. Just like normal group rule, and of course incurring the usual group harvest penalty. And in this case it also NEEDS to harvest the same amount as the master.

Fred: I have been trapping my butt off on TC for days now, no problem... Best part.. i can throw traps in caves and such now! WHOOOT!!

Calc: I was going to get Jenden to make me a couple of droids, one maxed out with harvesting and now perhaps a maxed out trapper. Just to see what the diff is when you harvest. Is the droid you are using maxed on harvesting modules? I was thinking of a probot with 5 of them in it.
