Thread: Need trapping XP? Here is how I made 50 000 in 40 minutes.
I fought some Mountain Squills on Tatooine, ~445 Trapping XP per phecancine trap. They needed 3 strikes to kill me, so if my traps failed to affect the Squill 3 times, I was slained. If you turn out lucky you can make some thousand xp (5000-10000) in 10-15min on Tatooine with Trapping III.
Thank God for that phecancine darts because without this trap I would be unable to hunt any creatures in SWG (weak ones alone (banthas, they are slow), others in group). In fact I think it is ok that you go up the Trapping branch quite fast in the current scout/ranger skill tree design. With ranger being redesigned, becoming true hunter, he should have more powerful traps than Scouts which are typically Explorers.
Anyway, something has to be done here or I will see many more Trappers in my Galaxy as soon as powergamers read this thread to whom only one thing is important in SWG: 'let's make XP, XP, XP, XP, XP, XP, XP, lots of XP'.
Please consider this when you implement the redesign ofScout and of Ranger.
"i use three pec darts on a merek, get 3k xp from it, but im also killing it with the help of a friend, not relying on the creautre itself fighting with other creatures.
I myself, yes am honorable, however i can understand that you want to proceed quickly, however, my personal belief, and once i again MY PERSONAL BELIEF, is that if you can develop such a system than enables you to advance your skill, without actually putting yourself in danger, then that is a game mechanics exploit, IN MY OPINION."
It's not that I can't kill the mob if I want, I'm a Teras Kasi Master and I am fully capable to handling those mobs. If I was to knock the mobs down, throw traps ..wait and knock it down again ..etc, I will make about5000 trapping XP on each mob. Is that exploiting too? Because, that means I will level in under an hour.
If not putting yourself in danger was a mechanics exploit, we got a serious problem with the Creature Handler profession. It's about using tactic, use the game designe to your advantage. They made it so that mobs fight each other -What's the big problemwhenI attack or throw traps on those fighting?
I am amazed by you people. Are you afraid of SOE or something? What kind of experiment did theyput your guys through in EQ? Not everything that is possitive, good, or to your advantage is a exploit!
You are an exploiter ... dot.
"Reading you, it seems I am a stupid kid cause I disagree to reach the last Level of the trapping tree of one of the few Elite Profession in 40 minutes ... Cause it is what u have done ...
You are an exploiter ... dot."
Phew! Thanks.
For a while there I actually thought you was serious, but nowI know you're simply a troll. The use of "u" also point of that you're nothing but a little school kid ![]()
You got to understand that getting XP is fast in this game. No way around it. Nobody is exploiting when they fight tuskens for 3k xp each. And noboy is exploiting when thethrow traps on mobs for 566 XP each. That's how the developers made it.
You still think that investing 400 hours in a game makes you a "veteran" player. Wrong. You was too dumb to find any new mobs to trap, so yougot stuck with trapping kreetlesfor over a month.I can see how you get frustrated when, new and more intelligent, people comes by and do it another way ..a better way. The easy way out is yelling "exploiter" and hope the masses jump on the train and follow you.
I've also understood that most people knew of this, but is simply afraid that SOE will see this and nerf it so you can't throw multiple traps. Sad really.
I spam traps but not for xp. That will come naturally just by general playing. I spam traps because of the effects. I mix up adhesive meshes and perc darts because they slow the critter down. I use glow wire traps because it lowers ranged and melee defense making it easier to kill. I use noise makers because they stun and hit the mind pool. I also use lec-darts before the noise maker because it's sole purpose is to be used in a combo because all it does is make them more likely to be affected by a status such as stun. Against a sharnaff with 9K HAM I use all of these on that sucker while keeping him pinned with actionshot2 from the carbine tree. Not spamming, not unethical, not exploiting. . . just sound tactics IMO. When it's dead I have a nice reward of 2K weapons xp, 250 combat xp, about 1500 in trapping xp, and 500 scouting xp. Not bad for a single kill.
Combo trapping is ethical if you do it properly. There's a reason why we have more than one trap. Theres also a reason why some traps are support traps only. The lec-dart is a perfect example. It doesn't do anything directly but it makes a status attack more likely (as I mentioned earlier).
It is tactically the way to use them.
However, it seems that traps Hit/Miss is not affected by our trapping skills.
So trying to trap Red Critters with 10k HAM should be efficient only if you have the approriate skill to do it.
As soon the devs would fix it, it will maybe become quit difficult to kill alone a critter that is 10 time stronger than you
And some people will cry that it is nerfed ... cause they will not be able to trap mobs like they done it before ...

If it's there is one thing I've learned in my 32 years on this planet (I just learned it last month, heh), it's that you will never "unconvince" someone who is stubborn, pig headed, unwilling to hear others, already has their mind made up, won't listen to reason, won't see others sides of things, unwilling to learn and will die before admitting they are wrong.
If 25 people told them they were on fire, they wouldn't admit it for fear of being proven wrong.
So, Hakbhar I will be the bigger person and just tell you that I strongly disagree with you, and maybe you should play the game the way you feel like playing it, and stop trolling in this normally peaceful forum.
People stop agruing with him he will never bend and I suspect his tenacity is rooted in a deeper R/L problem.

"Easy, and almost no-risk".- quote from the original poster.
This is why this tactic is an exploit, or at the very least "cheesy". The game is supposed to be challenging and you are supposed to take risks. I have no doubt that the XP for trapping creatures will be nerfed when they implement the other changes to trapping.

Well here is my take.
- Trapping is XP is very easy, anyway you slice it. The better you basic combat skills the easier it is.
- Endor is not a friendly place. Sure this tatic is nice. But one wrong step and you can be fairly dead. (Not that death is that big a deal right now)
With just one combat specialist (level IV in on weapon) it is very easy to get about 500 trapping XP per creature that you can legititmetly solo. Maybe this would take me two hours instead of 40 minutes to get 50000, but whooo. At what point is it an exploit?

I'm still wondering..what the hell is the exploit here? Throwing multiple traps or throwing them on fighting mobs?[/quote]
No, pal. The exploit is a third way : the fact that you are alive and unharmed after that. This is an exploit, cause you gain exp without risk. Game is definitely NOT intended to work that way. You actually could do everything in my opinion. But you have not to escape fresh and unharmed as you are collecting marguerites ...
In few words : An exploit is when you get the maximum result with a minimal effort in a situation in which everyone could reach that same result with an enormous effort ...

Thank you.
I thought for a split...uh eh, hour that everyone hated me and saw Denebo = exploiter.
I hope I eased the trapping grind for someone.
The only gripe you could possibly have here is, traps give too much exp.
Just an FYI, I'm master rifle/Ranger with just frontiering 4 left. And I have yet to even come close to hitting 100+ hours of playtime. I get missions, 99% of which on talus, and I do them. It's that simple. I didn't do Biz natch missions, I just tried to limit wasted time (death and travel).
If you have a problem with the way SOE is doing something direct it to them, rather then calling people names, please.
