"No, pal. The exploit is a third way : the fact that you are alive and unharmed after that. This is an exploit, cause you gain exp without risk. Game is definitely NOT intended to work that way. You actually could do everything in my opinion. But you have not to escape fresh and unharmed as you are collecting marguerites ...

In few words : An exploit is when you get the maximum result with a minimal effort in a situation in which everyone could reach that same result with an enormous effort ..."

This is sad. Players who put their effort in finding excuses to call other peopleexploiters. I seethree reasons why...

  1. I hit a soft spot. People have been using this (or almost) tactic for quite some time, and is afraid that SOE will nerf it away.

  2. Some people always try to "be the better man". They are always playing the game the correct way and see everything else as cheat/exploit. They desperatly try to show this whenever possible, so people can think "wow, he is really something".

  3. Can't accept that others found out something they didn't think of.

Andyour "pal" attitude is horrible.

Hmm..maybe I sound to aggresive. Just ignore that.

But what the hell! This should be a WONDERFULL day! Look at the future Ranger

Use the tip, or don't. If you feel like it's an exploit, report it to a developer/csr.

Well I'm going to stay away from the exploit issue because both sides seem to have valid points and I don't have an opinion on it.

I would ask however, What's the Point?

I mean, if you're talking about getting trapping xps to get through the Scout tree prerequisite because you're never going to use traps and all you need is the Scout tree to get to Bounty Hunter, fine by me. Grind the traps, make Master Scout and Novice BH and go. But if you are a Ranger, you're likely to be trapping well beyond the time when you actually need trapping experience. In other words, you're going to be trapping creatures a loooong time. So what's the hurry? You want to max out trapping exps in a day so you can what? Earn extra trapping xps that you can never spend anywhere? Where's the logic in that?

And if you think you're speeding your way along the path to Master Ranger, well, you are. But here's a newflash for you. Getting to Master Ranger, outside of the nifty new title, doesn't mean much. You can do everything a Novice Ranger already can do. So no reason to hurry there either.

So I say, thank you for the tip on how to get really fast trapping xps. But I say again, What's the point?

I made all the trapping XP I needed in maybe 2 days playing, total time probably 10 hours, and I did it the right way: Make every kind of trap you can, and use each and every one of them on every creature you hunt. I'm done with trapping in the scout tree, and I still use glowjuice and phecanine (sp) darts. If decide on master ranger, I'll do it the same way again. I feel no need to abuse something just to grind. (Well, except wilderness survival, but that's a seperate complaint... fishing much?)

Yeah denebo, you were really aggressive, especially since i called exploit the tactics and not you an exploiter.

I tried to be friendly, and called you pal. I thought this was a good way to establish a discussion.

Evidently, in this **edit**ing freaking world, trying to be kind is not seen as a good way to go.

Well, next time i will assault you the same way, instead of trying to explain my Point of View and explain why I think this tactic is an exploit (not a cheat)

In the end, I want to let you know that I already mastered trapping without grind, cause I think that trapping is the easiest tier to climb, if you relate it to frontiering, for example ...

First of all I'm a Ranger, not a BH-wannabe.

Anyway...It's not that I'm trying to move up as fast as possible. I JUST found out how to make tons of trapping XP - And before I knew it, I was a Trap Master.

What's everyone beef? I found out how I you could get Master in the trapping field in an hour. I thought I could share it with everyone, and now I'm an exploiter? A idiot who just try to "uberize" his character fast as possible. It's like I'm left "outside" because I did the trapping proccess 10x faster than normal.

As I said, instead of coming on to me, report it to a developer/csr and we'll get a official response on whenever it's a exploit or not.

If it is, maybe SOE should consider re-designing 90% of their game.

It is not an exploit.

I see it as cleverness in figuring out a good way to practice your trap ability.

You need to play your game the way you feel like playing it. Every situation and tactic can be debated as an exploit or not. The only exploits that exist in a game is the ones the game company has identified and the only way you could be exploiting it is if they asked you to stop.

Just because you think a situation is an exploit is no guarantee that it is. Just because I think a situation is not an exploit does not mean it is'nt.

Because SWG has not identified it as an exploit means it is not an exploit.

That is my opinion and I am sticking with it.

By your definition Pdarts are an exploit, just on their own.

I think what needs to be fixed here are traps like the wire mesh ones which you can hurl endlessly. The traps that cause status changes have built-in timers making it so you cannot just throw trap after trap and get xp. However, with wire mesh traps and the other ones like it, you can just throw them forever. So, the cevs need to add a timer for the effect of this trap. Probably the best wya would be to add a status effect similar to blind, dizzy, etc. in the game as a result of the melee (or ranged or both in the case of the other traps) vulnerability you are placing on the mob. This way, you couldn't get xp for the next one until it wears off.

Please tell me if you consider this an exploit...

I was at advanced trapping 2, I was on Dathomir, I was exploring the western mountains when I came upon a witch camp in a valley and they had a Rancor...

I attacked the Rancor with various traps then ran up the mountain side as it gave chase (please note the Rancor was having NO PATHING PROBLEMS AND NO PROBLEMS DETECTING ME AFTER I HIT HIM WITH THE TRAPS...)

I obviously (having wayfair 3 at the time) outran him up the mountainside then he would turn away and head back down to his camp. I kept doing this for like a half an hour before I admittedly got bored of it...

Now I was getting 2 or 3 traps off each time before the combat recycled and I would repeat it for lets say (I forget) 500-700 XP per trap, so I will guess (3 traps, 5 minutes for 30 minutes equals roughly 11k trapping XP...)

So was I exploiting the fact that I am faster than a Rancor and have better terrain negotiation?

(Was Luke exploiting the fact that he used to be an expert skull tosser back on Tatooine when he was a boy?)

BTW I have reached the Trap Master line and now have 80k surplus XP that is now CAPPED.

I don't need it.

My point is, trapping XP just comes naturally without any need for gimmicks, it just depends on how fast you want to get there, because trust me you will get there...

No of course not. You used your ability as a Ranger and showed that you KNOW how to play one. You used tactic.

What's the point of being a Ranger if we're only going to do whatever the next BH, Pistoleer orCH does? We get our bonuses for a reason.

Trapping is proble the single fastest tree to level. Even hunting regular creatures in my level range I get 130 to 250 exp per trap. Often the wife will use warning shots on yellow to low reds and I will sit there and throw one trap after the other, going through snare, stun, dizzy, mind damage and such in turn, we had fights where one creature took 2 or 3 minutes to kill, and I ended up with an easy 4 to 5k of trapping exp on that creature alone. The problem was not getting the exp, the problem was I had to spend tons of time sitting and actuly making the traps. I think they should tweak trapping exp to about 50 points max per trap used.
