Thread: Ranger correspondent feedback
I really appreciate the hard work DEV has done to try and make Rangers better overall, but at the moment you have made it worse for us. A Rangers main source of income is usually harvesting. The way I read it; we were suppose to only be able to harvest at 60% ratio when in groups. Well it seems that I don't even get that ratio when I'm soloing. If im hunting with just my pet in a group, he lowers my harvesting percentage to almost half whatI get without him. Creatures I use to get around 100 meat, bones or hides off of I'm lucky to get 30 off them now and might get 20 if my pet is grouped.
Overall, you have cut our harvest by at least half of what it use to be and the cost of making tents and traps are almost doubled. If this wasn't bad enough the high resource cost to make cameo kits and the pain that it will be for us to get Flora make it not even worth doing cameo kits. I think I speak on behalf of all rangers when I say please let us be able to forage Flora. One last recommendation, would there be anyway possible to make foraged food stackable.
Sincerely,
Tiamak Oomgosh

Being a relatively new Ranger I have to admit that I'm not really an authority on the upgrades to the Skill Tree, but I CAN tell you that
1) yes, traps should affect all beings (how many times have we seen someone get their foot caught in a bear trap in the movies?)
2) Tracking at the Ranger level should be asrealistic as possible, ie a Ranger currently with a Tracking II skill can see that NPC's have been in the area while at the same time can tell you what animals are in which direction. I love this idea...but realistically, can you tell someone's name just by their tracks? Coming from this kind of background I can tell you that you can tell height, weight, male, female, and some other trivilities but not the name.....(I know that is kinda nit-picky, but I'm just trying to be honest)....
Come on Mellosteved!
CHers complain that they can't tell things that RANGERS know about their Pets. Try to get close to GRAUL MAULER without maskscent and yes you still have skill points left over for decent combat skills, creature handing and/or whatever else you want.
A MASTER RANGER has alot going for them it's just how you use your remaining skill points that matter. No one profession is suppose to be uber, BH comes close though. The improvements that are coming will be worth the wait and are just gravy.
CHILL OUT we won't get nerfed and we just got a bunch of luvin![]()

We are still being kept out of the GCW. Traps should be our forte there. Nothing new here just repackaged pve crapola.
Dropping ranger, dunno why i waited this long, guess i hoped they would see us more than a resource harvester profession. Joy, i'm a glorified resource harvestor. One less master ranger, later.
Nah actually forget that idea, i'm just going to cancel on the 13th. This game is nothing like the star wars genre i grew up on. It doesn't look like it ever will be and i'm tired of having my heart broken.
Ranger doesn't reflect it's star wars counterpart, it's something else but i didn't pay to play deerhunter 2.0. I wanted to have skills useful in the GCW and it appears the only way to do that is to be a BH, Commando, or a creature handler. Traps was the way to go for pur PVP abilitiy but you think we want more PVE crapola. Guess what, once you master a profession we don't care about PVE. Creatures have nothing to do with star wars and the GCW, most NPCs have nothbing to do with star wars and the GCW. They drop nothing useful or interesting for the most part. I don't want to play a glorified resource harvestor. Crafters you are screwed, as more rangers quit, the less resources we will provide. Better hop lots more BHs keep coming into the game, they do master scout, but then once they reach master they pretty much don't hunt either do they?
PVE in SWG is BORING! I do like having both kinds of content but i won't be limited to one and kept out of another.
I agree that as a Ranger, our forte is trapping. But the way I see it, Rangers are supposed to be pretty much self-sufficient. Take me for example (not to toot my own horn). I make quite a good living off the land. I harvest Meat for doctors, and hide/bone for armorcrafters. I never pay for armor or pet-stims, I just provide material. Hell if I could, I would use my camp as my house, I would never have to go into town except to sell my goods.
I am also aCreature Handler, not master yet, but fast becoming. I have fought and KILLED Rancors, SOLO, so I don't what you guys are talking about. Granted, my pets do most of the work, since my personal combat skills aren't that great, but a Delerious Merek Avenger, fighting a Rancor with my Glow-Wire Trap effect on it, seems to work pretty well, and now that I don't need Novice Artisan to survey for flora, that is another 15 points I can use for combat skills.
I would love to see more Damaging Traps. Some ideas might include a "Pit-fall", "Bolos", "Snares" (that do damage to Action), etc. Also, as everyone has pretty much mentioned over, and over. Traps that affect NPCs.
I have had many, many people ask me to find creatures for them. Bio-Engineers, Creature Handlers, and Hunting parties. I used to do it for free... now, everything has a price.
Personally, I love the new abilities of my profession. Sure we could use a bonus to our harvesting skills, I mean if you think about it, who knows creatures better than us. We have the highest creature knowledge of any other class. So with that in mind, (and this is for the Correspondent mostly) why not give us a bonus when fighting creatures. If we know everything there is to know about a creature, would it not makes sense that we would know where that creature is weakest?
Just a few ideas. Love the profession. Planned to be a Ranger from the start. Don't plan on changing my mind. Jedi or not, I WILL ALWAYS BE A RANGER.
"Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the high prestige and honor of the Rangers."
I want to like this game! I really do, but I am quickly coming to the relization that there is nothing 'Star Wars' about this game. I'm starting todoubt there ever will... I hope I'm wrong.
No game has ever broken my heart like SWG has... ![]()

And holo didn't even mention it, he said new traps would affect NPCS, so to me that means we are still being kept out of the GCW. It's not overpowering, we spent 140 skill points and we have no PVP ability at all. Commandos can one shot people and set them on fire and get to kill AT STs, BHs well they can one shot you and damage unhealable Mind pools, combat medics( a freaking support class) have more lethality than we do. CHs another so called non combat class beats us hands down in combat, pve and pvp. We suck at hunting, we suck at pvp and the gcw. We bring nothing to the table except large harvesting ability. Big whoop. The only tree people take and keep from our profession is tracking. The only tree they take and keep.
Traps that affect pets, humanoids( this includes players), and conceal that has some kind of impact in pvp, and pvp oriented camps(think temporary defensible forts with medical facilities) would give us a place in the GCW. This is the direction we need to go to be unique.
I can't beleive Holo and the devs can't see it, hell even the ewoks used traps in battle against the AT STs and stormtroopers. Watch the battle of endor in RotJ and then you people at SOE will know what direction rangers need to go. Commandos take out things like AT STs head on, rangers do it by luring them into a trap, same goes with humanoids.
There is nothing overpowering about using traps in PVP, once you reach ranger you should even be able to use your old scout traps in PVP against humanoids and pets alike. Everything a trap can do can be done already by a special in other profressions, and we have to throw them at a 6 second delay.
I'm sick of everytime i see a new idea or ability brought up about our profession the words " NPC or creature only" pop into it. Without this ability we are nothing more than scout 2.0 period. We are NOT unique and your ideas presented to not make us unique!
I agree with Keito 98%! I don't think our old Scout traps should work in PvP, I think we need totally new traps that work PvE and PvP.
I don't want to, nor should I have to, rely on my Scout traps when I've spent so many points in Advanced Trapping.
Why anyone would want to restrict our profession to PvE only is beyond me. It will not damper anyones ability to play only PvE, it will only open an entire area of the game up to those that wish to participate in the GCW.
Rangers through the ages have delt with people using thier hunting and trapping skills just as well as they've delt with animals. RestrictingScout to PvE is perfectly fine, but natural progression should see Rangers more usfull against Humanoids, NPC and Player alike.
- To those people that point to fantasy referances, like D&D, to support anti-PvP: Why do Rangers get the ability to choose Humanoids as thier favored enemies?...
- To those people that point to historic references to support anti-PvP: What about the trackers and trappers that have served in almost ever army in nearly every war that tracked down enemy troups and battalions and laid all manner of deadly traps and ambushes?...
- To those people that point to modern references to support anti-PvP: Um, you have no leg to stand on. Rangers today deal almost exclusively with Humans! From Division of Forestry to U.S. Army Rangers...
Conceal works against NPCs and should have some effect against Players, many Rangers agree on this point...Tracking allows us to track NPCs and Players, most rangers support this ability...Why should our traps only be effective against creatures?...
I'm losing too much passion about this game to argue my points anymore... It only falls on deaf ears anyhow.
