>Imagine running through the wastelands of Tatooine with an empty radar. All of a sudden you find yourself in a tusken camp that mysteriously spawned on top of you because of lag. Running slowly is really not an option if you have a 5km to get to a place from the nearest starport/cloning center.<

i am really with you at this point. since i am maxed out on scouting xp i am really missing the note that i received xy-amount of scouting xp for passing aggro critters. OFTEN i received the note before any mobs could be seen on my radar or my main screen due to lags and i always stopped immediately to let the mobs spawn first. dont know how often this may have saved my butt...

on the other hand this is not really a ranger problem, just a nice way to avoid being the breakfast of something before you could even see it (also if it is right in front of your nose). i wouldnt mind a sentence like you successfully passed blablabla

Guys,

Good news about maskscent vs. kreetles on TC tonight.

I did about 40 checks against 30 or so Kreetles - never broke. Even within ranges of 5-10m.

And I've got the screenies to prove it.

Looks like this issue may be put to bed, finally.

Is this really an issue? My home planet is Tatooine(on the live server)and when I have mask scent on I have never been broken by a Kreetle, Sevorrt, or any of the lesser aggressive creatures. I run right through them, over the top of them, and they never pay me no bother. Which is good because killing those things just becomes irritating.

Curious to know what you are..Ranger...Master Scout..dabbler scout..Mon Cal? Cause in my next life I'm taking that race and mixture of skill points so that mask scent actually works for me

3/4/3/4 - Ranger, 1/1/0/1 Rifleman. Human. Maskscent drops..without fail..to kreetles, giant gubburs you name it they break it and charge right to me. The news from the test center is encouraging..keep up the good work guys and if things are going as well as I'm hearing I may just start using it again.

It is for me. I'm a master ranger whose /conceal consistently gets broken by kreetles from off my radar. Having it break immediately upon reapplying is extremely annoying.

Guys,

I'll put the screenies of me sitting on a Kreetle with Mask Scent up on photoisland and post the links tonight.

It looks like this has been resolved.

TheDarkNerf I hear what your saying. What it really comes down to it is playstyle. For some its getting the best use of skillpoints for PVE/PVP and in those cases Ranger isn't the route to go usually. For others its a matter of playstyle, I like the whole outdoorsy thing its the reason I went Ranger. I know that if I wanted to be the best PVPer I would give up all my ranger skillsand go bh/pistoleer/commando/smuggler variant.

What I am saying is that not everyone tries to maximize thier skill points to kill faster/better but instead for personal enjoyment. Thats why the Ranger life isn't for everyone. For me I like the conceal line, I get a great satisfaction being able to walk up to a Maruader and laugh in his face without him blinking an eye.

Anywho:

I performed some more testing on Test Center last day:

...snip...

Results:

  • 469 successful checksand 19 failures

...snip...

mmm.... I would have been happier it that was more like 5 failures at master. Personally 1 failin 100 checks would be more to my liking as a useful. Of course I see that humanoid was used in that as well. However, I ran by some in Kor Vella the other day w/o any attempt at stealth and got by them. What was the frequency of being attacked? If you was not attacked, I could live with that but I would be hitting half that many checksin an explorer run. I do typically 2 a day tho. Being attacked10 times where I would not be attacked w/o stealth would make me not use it.

"What was the frequency of being attacked?"

I was never attacked by the breaking of /conceal.

  • As long as the break check occurs beyond 40m, you should not be attacked by the break.

  • All break checks occur within 64m... So you have a 24m buffer zone to play with.

There are other issues with the humanoid A.I. regarding attacking without checking /conceal at all.

  • Hopefully, fixes for those issues will make it into the patch (but I can't guarantee anything )

I suspect DeltaXi65 is attempting to calm the more cynical of his brood.

We of course don't have those sort of people in this forum.

I'm not cynical? Now I'm insulted.

you know , all the testing and work on this issue has been exelent, and i have to compliment you on all the work.

ahh yes, the but.... In the end im considering droping the conceal line. For the same points spent i can pick up a few tree's of ch and just flat out woop anything i might be trying to avoid.

For the points spent in this tree, one should get a heavy ability, that lets you do things with impunity. The concele is for traveling? All encounters are quite avoidable with a medium of caution while traveling. So then one asks, what is the "great" benifit i gain by spending the 20 points in the wayfare tree? Im going to use creature handlers as a cross example since they share some scout requirements. For less points, one can spend it in said line and just ramsack the red cons that the "conceal" and "mask scent" line is trying to give us the ability to avoid. In the end its debatable on where the "huge" advantage is for the time and xp and points go to, and how it augments a charature. One has to get master scout to even work up the ranger line, taking up a sizeable portion of points, then one has to invest more points into the ranger line to further the "stealth" abilities that the ranger line should be providing, and the added cost of kits and thier said suplies needed. For me this shows a glut of the weight on the cost side, and a few bones tossed on the usefullness side.

I guess im trying to put some "scale" to the benifits recieved from the spending of "precious" skill points. We are talking about a passive system, It's advantages to combat are there (getting a few extra shots in), but as stated above in previous posts, the general feeling is that this is more of a means to travel around safely?

I don't know, im kinda on the fence atm... i just see a branch of a tree that isnt scaled right in its point cost, to usefullness ratio. Im not saying the benifits are nul, just the frame of mind that "it should break" or "it shouldnt be pure stealth" or "you cant give rangers a perfect ability" will hurt the tree more than help it. Granted this is the base of the system and is now more about tuning the code, but thats another factor i wont ramble about now. There are still some heavie issues to be adressed with pvp, radar hiding, etc, that im sure will come.

Ranger 1/2/4/1, Pistoleer 0/0/3/1, I am a Zabrak. And Overtkreetles CONSTANTLY break my maskscent, but regular Kreetles, Sevorts, mostly anything under level 15 save those overkreetles I can succesfully maskscent past.

An overkreetle or an underkreetle - they're still kreetles.
