"When you get experience points, it is a sign that the creatures ahead were successfully stealthed."

Wellwith the Test Center implementation:

  • All creatures test /conceal within 64m.

  • If your conceal has not fallen by then, you know that you were successful.

  • If your conceal falls, I would suggest reapplying /conceal before approaching any further

Creatures will not attack if a Ranger is beyond 40m distance. So you have a buffer zone to ensure that you won't get aggroed.

  • Approach all aggressives slowly (to ensure you don't jump the 40m aggro range)

  • Target them and watch the distance bar

  • Once itdecrements below64m, the break check will occur

  • If you don't receive break message, you are safe to approach

  • If you do receive the break message, back away from the creature, as it may already be moving towards you (attempting to get within aggro distance)

The Stalking message comes in handy at this point...

  • Once concealment is broken, you will receive messages that nearby creatures are stalking you.

  • These creatures are attached to your character and are attempting tomove into aggro range.

Reconceal when the timer runs out (15 seconds after breaking), and proceed on your way.

----

The previous should also work for /maskscent...

In Re: Socktown - Excuse me? "Whiney, idiot Rangers."? Who the hell do you think you are? I am a Master Ranger and have been for several Months. I'm just gonna stand outside of a StarPort and some nice player is gonna drag his happy butt out 3000m from the city to find me a nice flora resource location for my harvester. I am a Master Ranger/Master CH/Pistoleer. Hence NO SURVEY SKILLS. How do you think I have aquired my flora? If friends cannot do it, I'll pay someone to find it for me. That is a way of making new friends. The whole concept of the Ranger is one who is self suffecient in the wild. If you have to go to a city, or operate some complex piece of machinery, to fully utilize your Ranger skills....you aren't really a Ranger, are you? This is not Davey Crockit: King of the Wild Frontier, not is it Grizzly Adams! This is a Technologically advanced civilization here. So you wanna get realistic? Best think before you answer, and look at the point I was trying to make. there is not a single profession or character that is MADE to be self suffecient in ANY universe, their or OURS. If you must place harvesters for your guild, then I am sure that you have access to someone who could survey for Flora? Flora Harvesters of ANY size only take up 1 lot.

In Re: sbjnyc - Um - it should be easy for rangers to make camo kits. Again with the "self suffecient" hooey. You wanna be a Ranger? You should WORK for it. If you need to ask for a littel help now and then, what is wrong withthat? You clearly haven't experienced the game enough to know how hard some of these resources are to acquire.I have made several Cammo Kits on each planet, except Lok. The meat was non-exsistant there. And being as how /maskscent was not working well enough for any of us to use it efficiently, then Rangers opt to complain about it. As they should. Get the DEV's to change the meat resource to something a little more common on Lok. Dont ask them to take out the meat all together because its hard or imposable to find. And this is how it was viewed about the flora. "We cant survey for the flora", a common whine if you ask me. So riddle me this! Since the Cammo Kits were first introduced, how is it that a Master Ranger/MasterCH/Pistoleer with NO survey skills can manage to gather every single last resource that he needs to make cammo kits on every single last planet that there is to visit (with the exception of Lok), in quantities to /conceal his entire party of 5 or more (and yes, I am still aware that they do not work)? I have done it, and so have there been others. You should actually play a ranger and try making all 10 kits for guildmates before you come here all self-righteous and preaching at us. I think I have just established that I have indeed.

In Re: Ki_Gu_Lon - Why couldn't they have allowed Rangers to forage for flora and left the polymer in the bases? It still requires dependancy on Surveyors and it makes sense. I could not agree more!If you are happy with Rangers being "little more than Glorified Scouts" be prepared for disappointment. I apologize. What I meant to say was that I am happy that they have made the Ranger Profession better than the mere Glorified Scouts that they were in the beginning. I realize that the profession is incomplete, there are few Professions that have yet to be fully completed. Having PvP abilities inno way hinders your ability to be soley PvE. They will not take away any of our current skills and abilities to add PvP content. I am sorry sir, but you could not be more wrong here. Why did they Nerf BH and CH? Why have they been altering so many other combat-based professions? To even it out? to a degree yes. Take CH; Why was the CL limit introduced? If it was for PvE, then they just could have made the lairs and the creatures harder to kill. or made the Creatures that the CH prof depends on not quite as tuff as the wild critters once they are tammed. It was altered because PvPers where complaining that the the CH with 2 Rancor was too difficult to topple. Plain and simple. It will also be the reason why Rangers will NOT be able to /conceal themselves from other Players. If they DEV's make it so that a Ranger can /conceal himself and his platoon of IMPs to take out a rival Rebel group, I can assure you that the ability to /conceal yourself from another player wont last long.

In Re: manterion - remy69, wow rangers are idiots huh? Please have some respect and try not to bring down the level of this normally excellent board. I should rephrase. All of you Whiney People who are playing or attempting to play a Ranger and have not made it as far as most of us have to know when a self riteous attitude is not the way to proceed in this or any game for that matter. Self Riteous people are idiots, and always will be. If it was percieved that I was saying that ALL rangers are Idiots? Then I am sorry, for I am no idiot.

I have never used an exploit to gain any of my skills. There is no challenge in it. I worked hard for each of my master skills. And I know how to use them even with changes that have been made, working or not! I wrote the post in hopes that it would be recieved byt he masses, and more so the DEV's, as constructive critisism about the game. Evidently some people are too sensitive when expressing ones opinion. These boards were created to bring information and expression about the Ranger Profession. I am a Ranger. I have earned my right to express my opinions. I am one who will never make an opinion unless I have my facts gathered and I feel justified.

It's funny how no one mentiond the fact that I DO appreciate what the DEV's have done. As do I appreciate most of the Correspondants that have been chosen. Also, did you read the part where I included another profession as a prime example of how we should all work together? I'll be the first to admit that I hunt alone better than I do in groups. But when I do hunt in groups, there are those who are glad to have me as a tactician to the fray. And besides, I love hunting with a group.

In Re: NRaas - Should you desire to test the full extent of the /conceal ability? Tatooine: against Tuskens. Endor: against EVERYTHING. It is the NPC's that will break cammo in a heartbeat. And it is against NPC's that the /conceal abilities will be mostly used. If I understood correctly, it was the prime reason that the /conceal ability was developed in the first place, as was our ability to /conceal others. I understand that TKA's have a dificult time in fighting off critters and NPC's. But since the New Player Exemption is still in effect, running out only to get ZAPPED back, should as least give you an idea.

OK, let me be sure I understand you (have patience with me as you probably explained this many times ).

If a creature checks for conceal at 64m, the conceal either worked or it breaks? No middle ground here? In that case the problem goes away except for the problem of server lag.

Imagine running through the wastelands of Tatooine with an empty radar. All of a sudden you find yourself in a tusken camp that mysteriously spawned on top of you because of lag. Running slowly is really not an option if you have a 5km to get to a place from the nearest starport/cloning center.

By the way, if mounts will move continuously at burstrun speed as stated by devs in the recent Stratics chat, what's the point of the terain negotiaion skill?

Remy,

I won't go into the arguments that you've made but I will say this - I've been a Master Ranger for over a month. I've been to every planet. I've seen lots of things.

You know how many conceal kits I've made?

None.

Not one. Not a single kit. Because I can never find the resources necessary - not the hide, or meat. The flora.

The only reason I know what they're like is because Aramus was a saint and gave me some the last time we went hunting.

I, for one, am ecstatic about this change, and can't wait for it to go live.

B

PS - I'm going to be doing some more testing on TC tonight. I'll give another mask scent update tomorrow in the Scout forums.

Well at least we know now why some folks are so upset that the flora requirments have been lifted from the cameo requirements. It seems that some of us have gone out and stock piled vast quanitities of these resources and were waiting for the cameo kits to work so that we can make large somes of credits from our stock piles. I remember reading here on the boards that folks were trying to sell flora for 20c/unit. Looks like instead of massive gains in credits some of us are going to take maginal losses.

I for one am extremely pleased that this requirement has been lifted, even though i have a few hoards of flora myself (my medical friends are going to be very pleased). The argument to me is mute that we need to be interdepended with all the other classes, like we're not already. Can I make my own gun (no), can I make my own armor/clothing (no), can I make my own food (short of folage, but chefs stuff should be much better than the bugs i can dig up), Can I make my own house/harverster/factory/furniture (no), and can I make my own droid (no). You get the point, I am dependent on others in the game.

Everything the ranger makes is used only by the ranger and we do not have a market to sell the things we craft including the new cameo kits. Our only source of income is selling resources we collect, missions, and from other professions we have that may turn income for ourselves. The Idea of running around smeared with flowered fruit actually scares me, I mean what if the dev's bring giant killer bee's into the galaxie, we will be in deep ......

The absence of the flora component for me actually makes the game more fun for me with less grinding per planet and I thank them!

As far as camps and conceal dropping in combat. I've had them drop without taking any damage from critters, however, as a rifleman I take a spend a lot of my Mind BAR just taking a shot. You should check to make sure the game doesnt include this in the calculations for being in combat.

It's been my experience that whenever I fire a shot off using a special, my camp falls. If my conceal drops the way my camps do...Thats gonna get expensive.

Ghost brings up a good point.

I too have noticed that my camps disband if I take "damage" in the form of special attack costs while in combat, even if I take no damage from enemies themselves.

Guys,

Good news about maskscent vs. kreetles on TC tonight.

I did about 40 checks against 30 or so Kreetles - never broke. Even within ranges of 5-10m.

And I've got the screenies to prove it.

Looks like this issue may be put to bed, finally.

"Endor: against EVERYTHING"

I have had a chance to test /maskscent on Endor (with a very organized fire team).

The testing was informal, but the skill did hold up reasonably when I got too close to a critter.

Generally the team kept our distance from the aggressives whenever possible.

----

Whileon Endor, the planetwas in a resource shift in regards to insect meat, so I was unable to acquire sufficient to make a camo kit for the planet.

Either way, I am not really interested in testing skills purely for testing purposes. I am generally out running missionsin order to replenish my travel expenses.

This way, my experiencesare considered more real, and the results are then more applicable to what most Rangers will be doing on Live.

----

I haveaweek and a bitleft, and intend to spend the majority of that time on Test Center recording results...

I will eventually move onto a more difficult world and see how increased Creature Level affects success rates...

Most likely Talus or Tatooine, I haven't decided yet.

"If a creature checks for conceal at 64m, the conceal either worked or it breaks? No middle ground here?"

That is correct. All aggressive creatures will checkwithin 64m range (or just within, allowing for server lag)

The result is either:

  • You succeed, and the creature will ignore for a certain amount of time

  • You fail, and you receive a message stating such, and the creature will most likely being stalking you

"All of a sudden you find yourself in a tusken camp that mysteriously spawned on top of you because of lag."

In this case, you will be within 64m of the Tuskens and your conceal will be checked.

If you are within 40m and your conceal is broken, the Tuskens will attack immediately.

My suggestion in this case is a swift burst run.

I have never ever made a case for a ranger's self-sufficiency. Please read my post again before replying with the same nonsense. I did work for the ability to make camo kits. That is how I got to be a master ranger as well. My entire concern with the crafting of camo kits is inventory management. I do not want to be an accountant to keep track of all the resources I need to acquire. Needing 40 different types of planet specific resources to make camo kits? Are you kidding me? Micromanaging my inventory is not the wayfor me to enjoy this game. Itis way too extreme and no other profession has that sort of problem.

I am glad you are lucky enough to be on a server that has all the resources you need. I'm not. I've pointed out the difficulties I've had trying to get the resources I need to make certain camo kits, but don't expect to have your opinion taken seriously if you are content to tell everyone else how we are supposed to play this game while sounding like a 12 year old "I wanna be a 1337 prof d00d."

Why indeed. If you think CH was nerfed solely because of PvP you need to rethink (hint: read some dev posts). There were several nerfs to CH that I'm aware of (not having played **edit** myself in SWG). Expect CH to be nerfed again as MCHs soloing Krayts all day is very much against what the devs had intended. Also, lairs were made harder because of exploits surrounding missions - not sure what you're thinking of along this line. Plus one of the 1st nerfs to CHs was for their pets not to be as strong as their wild counterparts. Seems you were unaware of this despite being a master CH - how long did it take you again? Plus you being Master Ranger for several months when the game is only public for 3 months makes me wonder exactly how you got to master so quickly without exploits.

At the moment, BHsspamming Eyeshot and Commandos and their super damage rule PvP - who will be the PvP flavor of the month when the new patch goes in? TKAs? Maybe - ifwe can ever catch someone in melee range. A CH and his graulers/rancors or the imp and his AT-STs are so last month.

Would it be nice to conceal against players? Sure. I don't expect to see it, though. But there is no balance in PvP at the moment, so there's no legitimate reason for it until PvP is balanced.

I think you've already posted several wrong facts. Plus you posted an opinion that is merely subjectivewith your"I want to have as many specific resources as possible to make camo kits so no one else can make them" line of reasoning. That was your basic point (veiled in complaining about the flora components disappearing) and I see no facts behind that whatsoever. When this whole issue was being debated in the past few weeks, where were you and your opinions?

Constructive criticism? Calling us all whiny idiots is constructive?

/agree sbjnyc

While I haven't always agreed with sbj's posts he is correct here. Calling everyone whiny idiots was definitely not the way to go. Nor was implying that we have not "worked" to get where we are.

My belief that a Ranger should not have to play an artisan to get what he needs stands. Can I buy it from an artisan? Sure. Should I be expected to be flamed for not dragging someone out and "plopping down a harvester" for me? No. I believe that a Ranger should be able to /forage (in stackable amounts) what he needs for these kits. I do agree that there should be some inter-dependancy in the game, I just dont feel like this particular item/ability should be a part of it. Rangers in almost every game, and every genre of writing/gaming have been very independent. Telling a Ranger that he has to get his flora (a naturally occurring thing) from a machine or a person wielding a machine flies in the face of what a Ranger "traditionally" is.

Lastly to follow up on sbj's final point....there have been more than a few opportunities for you to weigh in with your opinion in a constructive manner. Most of the players that frequent this board take pride in the fact that we have very few, if any, posts like yours which flame anyone, let alone the entire profession. Maybe you should preview your post next time, and take into consideration the possibility of offending a large group of people.
