Thread: Meet your new politician correspondent, take two!

Baj seemed to have skipped a step somewhere along the line. Is it wrong? Probably. Is it unfair to those here who deserved a shot at it? Definately.

But, currently, the only question that truly concerns me is this... Will he do a good job? I'd have to answer yes to that, and in doing so I will overlook the obvious impropriety of his elevation to Correspondant in hopes that he will exceed my expectations.

Should he fail...well...then we let loose the barrage towards Mr. Player Voice himself...

I would rather have a Correspondant that has been around a while and has a reputation with the Devs than some forum troller (myself included) that starts petitions for the ability to build walls around POIs in their city or thinks they deserve the title because of a post count on a forum.

Politician is a new profession and i think we all would best benefit more from having an experienced Beta Player that is friends with the right people than having a player that is a new politician that has a presence on these forums. These forums are brand-spanking-new and are not a barometer of anything other than the fact that none of us have experience further back than weeks and a few months ago. Most of us all became politician about the same time, so what makes any of us more qualified than Baj. I bet he can get up to speed and in the mix faster than some of the Mayors that placed their city halls the day of the Player-City publish who are still posting threads like "We need a city mail function" and "Can I move a players house without his permission if I want?"

Palor,
I am truely sorry that you find Bajeezus lacking, I also find that it seems to be a very petty issue.

I am sorry that your sorry. My point was that he has not been around, has no experience with this community and was picked only because he is a friend of TH.

What part of that do you find petty?

I have no issues with him and I truly hope he does a fine job. I just find it extremely sad the way he was brought in.

As for putting it in his welcome thread, heck yes! I want him to know. Why? So he can prove me wrong!

I do not want, nor intend to get into a flame war on Baj's welcome thread

Then why did you write that?

He was picked not only on his reputation, but because he has a deep appreciation for the game and has the best interests of the players at heart.

Well if that is the case, shouldn't he have been on here since day one of Politician carrying our cause? He wasn't.

For those who wanted the corrospondant job and didn't get it, I am sorry....
If Bajeezus doesn't do a good job, then based on your own track records, you will be the next in line.

You kinda of make it sound like I only wrote the above because I am mad I didn't get picked? I don't think I (or any of the others complaining) even applied for the position. I am way to busy running my town and chasing holos to even think about such a thing.

Oh.. also.. next time you say you don't want to start a flame war, try not to even post in the first place that only makes it sound like you do =P

Only problem with that is "burn out". There is a reason they don't hang around anymore. I would rather have "fresh blood" that is primed and ready to fight. The "old timers" tend to be more of a mouthpiece for the devs, since they consider the devs their friends and want to keep on an even footing with them. The new people tend to not care what the devs think and only want whats good for the profession... well, except the brown nose ones

One, some of us have been here since long before beta was even rumored to start. We're still here. Burn-out isn't always an issue.

Secondly not all of us 'old-timers' are mouthpieces for the devs. In fact, we are FAR from 'brown-nosers'. We speak our minds on whatever subject is at hand, wether the devs like it or not, and will gladly roast any poster over idiocy. Wether that poster be another player or a Red Name.

Palor,

This very same situation happened on the Musician forum with NewJedi. No one had heard of the guy and he has turned out to be the very best person that could have been picked. I had a higher post count than the guy, but at least I didn't flame him for "having not posted in his professions" forum before he was picked.

The only way I would have a problem with Baj. is if he hadn't even been a Politician, but he is. And he is already an established leader in a lot of peoples minds, mine included.

Have a great evening!

I disagree strongly that his name is a religious issue in toto.

If he is representing SOE, he represents a double standard in how they treat some innocent words. If I do not get some satisfaciton on this issue, I am ready and willing to escalate this issue. You cannot hire people like this as a slap in the face of those who may or may not have religious beliefs already outraged by this issue.

And please don't tell me "Bejeezus" is not a reference to the Christian diety. We all know it is, and that is the basis of the problem. They will not allow people to see ONE religion's names (Jesus and Christ), as a blatant form of discrimination. They will not allow people to say "Christmas" in the game, a blatant discrimination against a single holiday. Then they turn around and yank somebody from the forum ranks and legitimize his name? I think not. This is not good corporate stewardship.

They need to fix this:

Either lift the discriminatory policy of making Jesus and Christ swear words, or force "Bejeezus" to change his name to one that reflects the policy of Christianity being a form of profanity.

I challenge anyone to call me a "Dev mouthpiece". But I know where you're coming from anyways.

Greetings, Baj.

I am always amazed by the degree to which some people have nothing better to do than to flame the boards... oh well, it reflects rather poorly on them and not at all on you.

It would be very nice if we could get some sort of 'official' statement on civic bonuses. Do they work or don't they? It sounds like they don't. If they don't, then could the Devs say they don't? I'm not going to flame or get angry or anything, but sometimes it is VERY helpful to hear a dev say 'yes its broken, no we don't have a date for a fix.' Then at least we don't have spend huge amounts of effort guessing whether something is busted or not.

Sorry to jump all over you. I'm still getting over my painful shock of the double-standard this forum and game uses regarding a matter of religion. Before I say this, note that my own beliefs are irrelevant in this matter:

It is NOT ok to use the word Christ in any context. It is a swear word according to SOE.

It is NOT ok to say the word Christmas in any context. It is a swear word according to SOE.

HOWEVER:

An unelected player, given special information and allowed to decide for entire professions what should and should not be developed is allowed to contain said OFFENSIVE SWEAR WORD NAME. I am sick of this double-standard with SOE. If you are an employee of them (which Correspondents have told me you are), you should change your name.

I may be forced to give up my rights to communicate on the forums and in the game, but those rights should include SOE employees and designates. If I cannot use a random religious figure's name, you shouldn't be able to parody it in name.

I could not agree more. This correspondent's name is totally offensive to me. I request a change of name, based on the double standard as sited in this quote.

While this correspondent's qualifications may be valid, his choice of name to represent a community in a professional manner is totally in bad taste.

Change it please.

I wonder about how "Bajeezus" can be more offensive than the flaunting of the name of one of the most sacred Jewish tenants in a game about war, Sacred . . . or should we make them change your character name too?

I don't think that it is a matter that Thunderheart knows him, but that Thunderheart knows that he could do a good job. Look at the reaction of the people whoremember him from the That should tell you something.

I can't speak as a politician, since I am not one. But I can speak as somebody who has been a correspondent for a while, and I think that Baj will do a good job.

Of course, I could be wrong. But neither you nor I have any way of knowing this early. Give Baj a couple of weeks and see what kind of job he is doing. If not, then politely tell him you don't think he is doing a good job, and knowing Baj, he will leave.

I really don't see why a few of the vets have a problem with Baj being our politician correspondent.

Come on! We've read and enjoyed his outstanding posts and ideas for years, pre- and during beta.

Furthermore, we all know how dedicated he is when he decides to tackle an issue and what his ideas on interdependencies and community building systems are and how much he is interested in group dynamics.

Considering this, I only see an extremely valuable and knowledgeable individual ready to spend time and efforts so that solutions are found to make the politician a more appealing and fun profession, which is IMO more a bureaucrat than anything else at this time.

Now let me also tell you that from what I've seen first hand, Baj knows this profession inside out and probably better than anyone else here besides maybe Sluggy, for all the mayors I know.

Now seeing how these forums have been invaded by whiners, I see why I don't find that much value to post here as often as a few years ago!

So please, stop complaining and be positive!

Oh and Congrats Baj!
