Thread: Weekly City Cap Whine :)

Well, I agree there needs to be some form of caps or every small group would start a city and cover the entire planet with no-build zones and take away the "rural" feeling.

But I feel if someone gets within the cap of cities, ie. 20, they should not be limited in growth. I think it is kind of weird that out of 20 city cap, only 5 are held down to rank 2 and below. Rank 1 and 2 are useless. Not until rank 3 do you get some valuable perks.

Iv just read this entire thread and havnt seen one response from anyone employed by SOE, this is soooooooo frustrating i too am capped at Lvl 2 for the second time and never get any reply from any CSR's i certainly agree with the idea that there shouldnt be a cap on city levels there should simply be a cap on City numbers, if i had known before all my hard work and wasted time i would be faced with this before i placed my city hall i would have certainy put more thought into picking another planet other than Naboo to habitat, has anyone actually given you any feedback at allDoctorGriggs or am i going to have to join your /bump 'ing sessions on here once a week until someone answers

From what i heard about the way SOE treated there EQ Veterans so highlyi must say im deeply dissapointed with the amout or attention they fail to give SWG players. I expected better ......

well... you see, there *are* a gazillion forums, and there are only a few devs that frequent the boards. most of them concentrate on the "in testing", "in development", and "in concept" board, and TH has only so much time to read the specific profession forum.

things get done slowly here, if at all. it's the same with all the profession forums, so the best we can do is have Texxie or our future correspondent poke at TH, and see what the devs can do

I don't recall the rank caps on secondary planets (Dantooine, Talus, Rori) but on the main planets - Corellia, Naboo, Tatooine the cap is 20 cities, but within that 20 only 15 can be rank 3 or higher, only 10 can be rank 4 or higher, and only 5 can be rank 5 or higher.

I personally think that if someone gets one of the 20 precious city spots on a planet they should not be limited to what rank they can be.

I know ghost citys are a pain but the system was set up for a reason...if all the citys on a server where alowed to grow to metro there would be almost no wild land left think of it this way....a metro takes up 500m in all 4 directions around the city hall so i city takes up to 2000m of land if 20 citys all took up 2000m of land there would not be very much leftforNPC's to spawn.

I dont like city caps that much either but they are needed....Ghost towns will one day fall apart..the way the tax system is set up im one day if only 4 people are running a city they will run out of cash....Our city has a bunch of players that stoped playing and there house are slowly falling away.....but we are adding new members to our city to componsate over time......but if they brought back the inactive account city kick crap then our city would be hit hard....but as the houses are slowly decaying and destroying them selves over time it alows us to get new houses in there to take there place.

Actually using the formula:

Circle Area = pi * r^2

A city has a max area of about 785,398 square meters. The Naboo map is 16,000 meters long and 16, 0000 meters wide. That's 256,000,000 square meters. Admittedly not all of it is usable. But if you take the maximum 20 cities that can be set on Naboo (20) and multiply that by the area of the level 5 radius (785,398) you get a total possible are of coverage of 15,707,960 square meters. That leaves an estimated 240,292,040 square meters of untamed wilderness. Of course I didn't count in the area around non player cities and POI's but still that's an awful lot of room out there.

I wouldnt be surprised if bugs werent involved. We have had a shuttle since january and the other day one of our townies who was in school lost his house (yes we failed to keep an eye on it) same day as update. Regardless we were at 54 when system updated and BAM lvl 3. Now way back in january when we never updated when abother city had this happen to them , I was told the lvl 4 city, had a week to make ammends and they dont really lose their position.

Well we replace the body within 1 day and yesterday we updated and POOF shuttle disappears and get a msg we hit cap. Now CSRs are saying someone levelled before us. Well funny part is only 8 towns show a shuttle and unless 2 are choosing not to put one up for pvp reasons, I am not even sure we have 10 lvl 4 anymore.

Now I have to start the long agonizing process of arguing with CSRs who dont even keep upto date with the game.

Its hard enuf keeping 55 players together in a city as is, but its even harder when built in the boonies and rely on that shuttle....

So our city reached cap today. No shuttleport for us

btw Lochar
On tatooine/Chim I also see only 8 cities with a shuttleport, but when I use a shuttleport terminal I see 11(!) possible player cities to fly to. One shuttleport is a relict of an old city and seems not to blocking a lot. Why the other two are not on the map, I dunno. I flew to one of those and find there a metropolis city.
This time I hope they will activate again the inactive player rule. It would help us, because there are some ghosttowns...

With BarterTown, we made the decision to stay on one of the base planets, and with good reason. We have an awful lot of merchants, and from our experience, merchants sell better on starter planets. So, we opted to stay with Tat. Much to our surprise, we were able to start our city the first night we went to drop it. We're working our way to 35 members, and we'll see if we hit lvl 3 or not. But, I agree, if you manage to make it in under the city number cap, you should have full growth potential.

I'm not a mayor, just a citizen of Hero's Legacy on Talus (Starsider), 2km east of Dearic. As an aspiring entry-level Artisian/Merchant, I find the cap to be a boon and bit of a problem (not that we've hit one yet). It's bad enough that we are on a "dead end" planet, but no one wants to move here,as long as they can go to one of the "higher" level cities. Even though they're ghost towns, they still have all the amenities, as long as one uncle moneybags exists, and houses are on admin to that person. On the other hand,if all the limits were taken off, who would bother moving to Talus? We'd end up with60 huge cities on three planets.

There needs to be a fair way to weed out the "vacant" cities, but I don't know what it might be. Anything I've thought of has too much potential to screw over the mayor and or entire city, or even be unfair to the citizen.

Yeah shuttle terminals show diff than on map, and if I were you I would try to find out what the other cities have. Remember there can be 5 lvl 5 cities and 10 lvl 4, so in essence there are a possibilty of 15 shuttles active. In my case we show 10 active shuttles yet 1 is a lvl 5 city so why didnt we get our lvl back? Bugs more likely, but will anyone look into yet? Prolly not.

Now for a observation, if your a lvl 3 and have 85 citizens and there is only 1 lvl 5 cities but 4 lvl 10, you still lose out because you hit a cap for lvl 4, yet there is room at lvl 5 for an expansion. There needs to be a system check in place to see if you qualify for a higher lvl and if need be jump the capped levels. Same for lvl 2 cities who cap at 3 but may be spots open at 4. That 1 cap blocks any progress at all.

@Lochar

I am pretty sure that there cannot be 10 rank 4 AND 5 rank 5 cities. I am sure that there can be 10 rank 4 or higher but only 5 rank 4 can become rank 5. So in the end you only can have 10 shuttleports from Player cities on the main planets.

I think the inactive player rule can help to kill ghosttowns. This thing was only a few weeks active and it was really productive for upraising cities. For some people this rule is a pain, also for me at that time, things went wrong to that time and we nearly lost rank 3, but now we could grow and there are still some ghost towns.
