Thread: Doesn't lots of empty player cities freak you guys out??

You know, on Infinity at almost any given moment - Theed is almost completely empty. I have screenshots of an empty cantina and the are in front of the starport. As amatter of fact, the areas are completely totally empty - not even NPC's.

No, even when Coronet has 100k people or whatever in it, Theed may have 2 or 3 people in it. On Infinity, Theed is dead.

I see one of two things in common with people that post about areas being dead. They seem to think everyone is supposed to play when they do or they play at odd ball times on a server that isnt populated by players from their time zone.
Sounds like your server is having a major population problem them, but regardless, this thread is about player cities, not Theed or Cnet or any of the other NPC cities.

It does, but I was just trying to show that not only PC cities, but also NPC cities can suffer from lack of players. Just be nice to the people who do come to your city and invite them back and they'll usually tell others.
The last couple of nights I sat on the steps of our guild hall (grinding architect) overlooking the shuttleport. Ammon is now 1 of 3 cities on Rori, hardly a draw of a planet for anyone. Especially since only two of those cities have shuttleports. Thou I did notice quite a decent flow of people into the city. Now, this may be in part to the story arc and us being the closest city to it, but then it may be us too. There were quite a few people shopping, running missions, just checking out the place, etc.
Plus in all of our existance, only one person has been city banned. He was running solo-missions while grouped with his ATST which he so nicely left right beside the shuttleport. I sent several tells and emails to him without answer. So we city banned him. I knew that the ATST wouldn't attack people at random, but the crafters of the city were uneasy which is whyI did it. But we've had others in the same situation who were more than happy to move their ATST. I just keep inviting them back to enjoy our cantina, see a play in our theatre, shop our vendors, or come meditate in our Dojo.
And it keeps a steady flow of people into our city.

You banned him because some of the crafters were worried that the AT-ST would attack them? How was that going to happen? That At-St was as harmless as an R3 droid....unless your "crafters" like to run around as Special Forces (overt) and I would have to question just how much of a "crafter" they were if they did that.

If you read before answering, you'd see that I banned him because he didn't answer my /tells or emails. Once he did answer, I un-banned him. Since he wasn't replying to me, I thought maybe he didn't see the tells or something. But once he couldn't use the terminals or shuttleport, he'd wanna know why.
I also said that I knew the ATST wouldn't attack anyone. But when you're running a crafting city, as a mayor at least, you should listen to the needs of your people. Any good mayor would. My citizens were uncomfortable with it there, so I attempted to resolve the problem.
I did read your post. The thought never occured to me that you would ban someone for not responding to tells. After all..with combat spam, and most people playing with the sound off...its VERY easy to miss tells (and we all know how easy emails are to lose dont we). It seemed to me that a good mayor would 1) explain to the citizens that the fact was that the AT-ST couldnt attack them....education goes a loooong way, and then 2) wait for the guy at the teminal for 15 minutes..he is grinding missions if he has an AT-ST out..so he'll be back...and explain then that you dont want the AT-ST out and for him to leave it at home. See..then you would not appear to be "hostile" towards a loyal citizen of the Empire.
You are right, a good mayor will listen to his citizens, but he ALSO wontlet them continue misinformed, but would instead educate the citizens as to the facts so that the citizens and guests alike are treated well. After all, a good mayor has a responsibility to ALL citiszens AND guests. He had done nothing hostile, he had not broken any rules...yet you banned him. You feel you did the right thing...I'm just adding my 2 creds. Like it or not, I'm allowed that. ![]()
but we have a improved job marked... 1 rebel mission term, 1 normal mission term, 1 forward rebel base (Special Force), a big Mall... an soo on... if yuo need people... you need to have something to offer :/
and a shuttle =)
That list doesn't mean they are "in" your city.

The /who command (/who is the same thing as doing a "search all" from Ctrl-P) ...picks up people at a very long range if it doenst cap at 50...and even then can have a good range.
An example of this is that my city is east of the Lake Retreat (4K+ from Theed..3 cities of lvl3, 4 and 5 between me and Theed)....if the population is low in the area, I can do /who and pick up people in Theed on the list. I'm not sure what the range is on it, but it seems that it can go a looong way, and is not a reliable way to see who is "in" your city. In fact, I can do a /who and see 50 people on the list and not know a single one of them....and yet have 2 guildies standing in front of me. The list would cap at 50..and the 50 it picked up where in other cities or Theed and the ones in my own city would not make the top 50 list.
You are right in that having that stuff can generate more people in a city, but it is no guarantee. Many a great city has fallen with all those. It takes active leadership and active citizens to keep a city jumping. The best mall, or the best base complex can still result in an empty city if the citizens are not active in making it known to the public that it exists.

Well I'm not sure how far it searches, but there is a limit. There are geographic regions on each planet. I don't think it searches beyond a couple of regions.
like I said, I dont know the range....it just seems that it does go for more than one zone, and it covers a lot of ground if it can pick up people in 4 cities including Theed at certain times. That wasn't my point though...my point was that it was not a reliable way to guage the population in one player city.
Maybe a ranger would be...they could stand at the city hall and get a list of players and range they are away from the ranger...all those within the right range would be in the city.....I'll have to test that out.
