I don't like it... the empty feel. It does not feel like a MMOG when you have 1000's of constantly empty cities.

And they force people to put in a lot of hours to maintain them with fees.

Anyone else bothered by it??

How do you knowthey areempty?

There is a city on my server that has a good doc/musc buff bot set that makes the city look busy..even tho most of the citizens are gone from the game.

Other cities are mostly populated with Europeans running a 6 hour time diff from us in the US, and appear dead when they really have a good number of citizens.

At any given time, you can pass through my city and not see a single person, but when I need to get votes in for XP, I can geta bunch ofpeople in there to vote. They all have different times to play is all.

You cant judge a city by the 2 or 3 minutes spent passing through while shopping. Most people are active and have reasons to go out and about. Not really anyone can hang around in their city and make it look busy.

People play the game to do things, not hang out on the street corner. Ghost towns will eventually fall, and make way for new growing cities. There is no reason to "freak out" in my opinion.

Bother me? Yes.

But, as its been stated, alot of the perceived emptyness is due to the play times of you and the cities you are visiting. If I logged on right now, I'd see a few of my citizens online. Maybe a tenth of the total population would be there. But, I have citizens from Europe, Germany, Japan and Australia all living in the city with eachother. It's always hard for me to keep in mind that one of my good friends is playing at about 1 or 2 am her time when I'm just getting set up for a long play session.

As for the part about being forced to put in a lot of hours and maintan them with fees, that is not honestly true. When I took office, my toon didn't leave the city for close to a week getting stuff set up and reorganised. I had the some of my best experiences in that time period to date in SWG. As for the fees, the treasury autopays for the maintenance. It's not all that hard to drop in a few million each month and not worry 'bout it.

Theres a ton more that I'd like to see done for player cities. There's a ton more that CAN be done for player cities. Until the Dev's are willing to take the time to give us the tools (and we are all responcible enough to not abuse them) we are stuck with justifying out existance almost daily. At first, I got really pissed when there where all the "remove Player Cities" threads in the GCW boards. Now, I enjoy making the point and trying to get people to see the importance and enjoyment of player cities.

It is impossible to judge the activity of a city by a single point in time observation. Aurora, the community which I run, has 4 guilds that are the main population with numerous un-guilded citizens living in and around the community. At any given time there are at least 10-15 people online. In the evenings there are can be upwards of 50 people online. But that doesnt mean that they are all in the city. When there are so many things to do outside of the city the community expects the citizens to be out of town having fun. To help give them a reason to spend more time in and around the city we have built battlefields using PvE bases. This is effective though costly in terms of FP.

We have the usual litany of partys and events and such, with good results most times. The trick is enough advanced notice.

I love the Players City of Aurora.

I think as Mayor I might try a macro to make the city seem busy.

I'll use the /target command to /target nikto (brawler trainer) in front of the city hall. Then execute a /follow command. Pause for a while, target another NPC, and follow him...

If the automatic running feature was set to walk instead, I'd be walking around. Every 5 minutes I could say, "Nice day, isn't it!" or "Tutt, tutt, it looks like rain!".

Then the city will seem way busy. Especially if you got like 10 people to all set up similar macros...

OK, this makes little sence to me. NPC trainers and any other decoration you put in game is stationary. They do not move unless you count them picking thier nose and scratching thier asses.

What you are wanting would require quite a few people running looping AFK macros and setting up patrol points with thier droids and then following them. That to me is a horrible waste of time and effort. Not to mention its possibly even more lame than the AFK spammers and Buff-Bots.

First there aren't 1000s of empty player cities. There just aren't that many player cities. And unless you're monitoring 24/7 you have no idea if the player city is truly a ghost town.

What bothers me is how slowly peoples old structures disappear after their account goes inactive. There is alot of clutter out there and things. And the Inability for mayors to have some way of removing structures that are owned. Maybe someday....

We have a metropolis. Our city looks inactive most of the time. I'm a crafter and spend a LOT of time crafting in my house which is on the edge of our city near my factories. There are several in our city who do the same thing. Just because we are not in our mall when one shops doesn't mean we are an empty city.

OK, this makes little sense to me. NPC trainers and any other decoration you put in game is stationary. They do not move unless you count them picking thier nose and scratching thier high-knees.

I was kind of kidding. Just looking for fun ways to AFK for Politicians. I felt left out by the Entertainer, Jedi-FS, and Combat macro-grinders.

Oh, and to explain the /target - /follow macro, you would have to set up the targeting to target different NPC trainers less than 128m apart. They are stationary, but when you target and follow, you will move to their position. Then target the next stationary target 128m away, and follow... See? You're not actually following, you're just walking towhere they are.

And it is lame, you are correct. But hey, so are empty player cities!

You know, on Infinity at almost any given moment - Theed is almost completely empty. I have screenshots of an empty cantina and the are in front of the starport. As amatter of fact, the areas are completely totally empty - not even NPC's.
