Thread: THe Death nail to the politician profession and player cities is on the test center

Problem I see is that a lot of the scattered houses in my city are from people that still pay down their account, but just never log in. I suspect this might be a common thing.

Would be nice if there was some way to relocate houses...that would solve so many problems. I would hate to try and code a way to move a structure with everything in it though.

Oh, and don't get me wrong...I wouldn't call removing a condemned structure griefing at all, but then again I think much of what gains that title could be sorted out with an ounce of diplomacy instead of the quickly leveled ban for a week.

*sigh*

I'm quite shocked by this move. This will really only work if there is a regular purge every month. If it's a case of the purge will only happen when the Dev's feel like it then it's a BAD idea. Our Player City is based on an island outside Coronet and we are "full" there is no room to expand. I estimate about 20% of the houses are owned by inactive players so as one goes *poof* we replace it with a new citizen, a very slow process.

We also have factories that retired players have placed (via lot trades) and are taking up space, will these remain forever ?

I think the idea to allow Mayors to enter a house with zero condition and delete it is a fantastic idea .. and whilst you're at it can you also add the abiltiy for us to see who owns a building. Atleast we can email them to make sure they are inactive or not ?

*crosses finger* Good luck Pappi

Catering to those that no longer play the game... that should be this publish title... but what about those of us that do? That's all fine and dandy that their trying to give "retired" players something to come back to IF they ever do but what about all these player cities that continue to face the "ghosting" of their town and are trying to revive them? I can not personally say i have a HUGE problem with inactive structures, however there are approx 10 in my city that i've been waiting on to go "boom" and they are in prime locations. This is such a horrible move.. sure they say the godly "purge" is coming, but correct me if i'm wrong, they were supposed to start that back in October! All i have to say.. is wtg, keep catering to those that no longer play this game... really gives us actives a reason to want to stay.

I've got a good idea maybe, this might have already been thought of though

maybe, give the mayor an ability to destroy houses, but put a delay on it, like a week, or something before it actually destroys itself, that would give the offending player some time to get their stuff out and redeed the house if they so wish

Oh joy, a reason to quit as mayor and leave the damn bug ridden game behind me...

Seriously, this will be the end of alot of cities. I'm not sure what will happen to mine after this. We've had some asshats come and just up and leave. Now I know that rl takes some away from the game but seeing's as how SOE's never followed through on the last 2 character purge dates, why in the hell would we be expecting them to do so this time? I have a museum that sits on the lots of a permabanned player. So what, I get 6 months minimum before this goes?

Way to totally screw a player population over... If the 12 year olds that cry about not keeping up on maintenace can't grasp the responcibilities of this game, real life is gonna kill the poor sob's...

edit: Sorry. Went on a little rant on this and I do appolagize. However, what remains of this post stands. This is more of a slap in our face than handing out the Architects schematics as loot. Totally unacceptable.

I think the idea of allowing mayors to delete houses...even at zero condition is a bad idea. Such power should not be in the hands of a player...not even one that is a mayor. While many ofyou could be trusted with the power, it only takes a couple mayors to greif a couple cities and totally ruin everything for all of us....its not worth the greif it would cause for the results we would get.

I do however feel it is an issue that needs to be addressed...I like the idea of being able to move them to the city limits....tho that would create a kind of slum area that people drive through to get to the city center. I think the best idea is allowing us to "pack" it up and cram it into their bank or their personal inventory in a special "bag" much like the bags that merchants received back with the vendor bug...the one that held a huge amount on inventory, but once opened..had to be emptied.

on another note, this means that players with a couple Mil in the bank, that have not canceled, but instead moved onto another server will never lose their house...you wont ever gain that land back...their houses will never burn down, and their accounts are active so they will not fall under the character purge...maybe SOE feels there is only a very small percentage of players play actively on more than one server, or have moved from one server to another.....credit swaps on the auction forums would seem to diagree with that train of thought tho.

I don't really see the griefing in deleting a house that would have been deleted otherwise. I especially don't see griefing in it if there was notice given.

This patch does, however, open a very nasty form of griefing. Let me take you down a dark path for a minute. What if someone becomes disgruntled, manages to take over a city (falling out with a guild, faction change, just an immature punk), and jacks the property tax up to the max? The players that can't log in regularly could possibly return to find their bank accounts depleted due to this. Instead of the draw stopping when the structure decayed and burned, it could take ALL their money much faster than with income tax alone.

Ok, giving the mayor the "power" to delete the house at 0 is not TOO much power... in fact i know away to get around that...

KEEP YOUR MAINT UP!

Im not a mayor. but this i can see major problems. If this was a quick fix to hold us over for the purget in 1month (even though we know this will never happen) maaaaaaaaaaaybe it would be ok.

Want the game to simulate a real 'star wars' environment... im SUuuuure the empire would let me get away for not paying my house payment for 1 year and then all is forgiven... or a mayor would let me get away with not paying taxes for a year!

Way to build a community guys.

Give the mayor the ability to 'repo' houses

Give the mayor the ability to SEE who owns houses.

Give the mayor A F##KING BONE!

Yes, thank you

Also the whole thing that it will come out of the bank is nuts. People have millions in their accounts they will not be comdemned for years.

And IF and only IF they impliement the purge it will only go away if they do not pay one month in 6 and will not cover people that just move to another server. Many people play on multiple servers and abandon characters on servers they play on less frequently.

I really just don't see why they can't reuse the stockroom code from vendors to dump peoples housing items in a surplus bank box for say 2 months and allow the mayors the choice to make them go poof at 0% condition.

After all its unlikely anyone who cares enough about thier house decoration is going to let thier maintence slip andif its about thier possesions thisway they don't loose thier items for a decent period of time. Database storage wise it would probably be cheaper as they wouldn't have to store position like they would in a house.
