Thread: Results from First Round of Defense Mod Tests
More tests are needed to determine if +def buffs stack between classes, or possibly if just TKA buffs stack.
Another test would just try to see if the game checks for any weapon in your hand(ie: you have Pistoleer Dodge but have a carbine equipped)
There is absolutely no doubt that melee/range defense does stack. You can click on my name and look at the accuracy logs I placed on the Rifleman board.
We on the rifleman board are interested in this, and I am very interested because I do have a defensive template.
I will be running some controled tests, and from my past experiences testing KD defense I can tell you that I am pretty sure that it does stack, because when I tested it months ago I had a rifle in my hand and +70 KD defense from TKA, Pistol, and 2 lines in carbine counter, a BH had big time trouble knocking me down in that test.
but I fairly confident that defenses vs do stack, but skills like dodge, block, etc, and melee/range D does without a doubt stack.
Oops. What I meant to say was dodge, block, etc does NOT stack.
I've just done some testing of my own which indicates that dodge defences DO stack, with the proviso that for some you have to have the appropriate weapon equipped such as pistol/one handed melee for dodge.
Combat wise I currently have marksman 0 4 0 0, pistoleer 4 1 4 3 and no brawler whatsoever. I gave a friend a CDEF carbine for which she has no skill other than novice marsman and we both stood still at 25m range while she used the dafault attack on me. I'm unaware if dodge takes effect only if the shot would have otherwise hit, but I ignored the misses and counted each test until I had taken 15 hits
With a pistol equiped I dodged 12 times for 15 hits
Unarmed I dodged 0 times for 15 hits
With a survival knife equipped I dodged 14 times for 15 hits
As a survival knive is a one handed melee weapon, it has dodge associated with it (from the fencer tree). Although I have no fencing or brawler skills whatsoever it was clear that I was benefitting from my pistoleer dodge when using a one handed weapon. The converse must be true and I can't think of a reason from this why they would not stack.
The problem with that test is there is not enough diffrence in bonus to dodge between pistoleer and fencer to see if what you got was "normal" or they stacked.
Do this for everyone find someone with just dodge from pistol or fencer, not both and have that same person shoot them that you used in your test. If you are right, they should dodge roughly half as many times as you did.
interesting test yawn. (And Silverlobo, if you read again, you'll see he had NO FENCER when he was dodging with the survival knife).
The only other thing to test would be to have a fencer pistoleer, see how often they dodge, then drop a lot of one of the professions, and see if that affects the dodge rate on the other (to see if the mods really stack, I would guess they do, though)
I think all skills should stack, if you havea skill shouldbe able to usethat skill regardless of what you have equiped that way you have areasonto mix skills unless it is specific to weapon like rifle accuracy or pistol speed.
Keep up the good work on all the testing guys the more data the better. Its very appreciated.
Defense Vs <input here> does stack. Here is a test I did today.

+melee defense
+range defense
Those two seem to stack very well across professions. However, tests from our correspondent (while still inconclusive) indicate that +Dodge and potentially +Defense vs XXX does not seem to stack since it only works when we equip Pistols.
I was in an unplannedfight last night with a Bounty Hunter/Carabineer (an Overt TEF fisherman came after me while I had a TEF). I have the Knockdown defenses from both TKA and Pistoleer. I got hit with at least one Confusion Shot, a few Crippling Shots, and more Charge Shots than anything else.
I was knocked down no less than five times over the course of about 90 seconds by those shots. (So much for a 30-second timer...) I also got hit with a Blind, though I didn't see any Eyeshots in the combat spam afterwards.
As for what happened when I got KDed, /stand let me jump right up and continue withthe fight after being hit. But nothing seemed to prevent me from getting knocked down. If I'm supposed to have some of the best KD defense in the game, it's not as great as it's cracked up to be.
If anything, there needs to be combat spam showing that you resisted a state change, just so we know that they're working. Make it like taking damage or counterattacking or anything else. Flash a +resists knockdown+ above our head.
PS - I beat the Carabineer, but it was a truly tough, hard fight. I loved it.
PPS - Despite being a Master Pistoleer, I had no Dodges during the entire fight, but I managed to Evade once. *boggle*
I was impressed with you testing, nice to know that you are taking your own time to go and test this out.
In your 2nd (I think) test you were unarmed and this seemed to suggest that your dodge was not working. Could you replicate this witha set of Vibro Knuckles? Ie the suggestion being that pistoleer dodge is only functional when having a weapon in the hand. I wonder if VK's actualy count as a weapon.

One thing that I wish we knew is how the +xx converted to a skill, like if you have +50 to dodge how does that modify your chance to dodge, same thing with ranged D and D vs XXXXX.
Also would be nice to know this to see if there is say a +100 cap like there is with speed.
