Thread: Do you guys use powerups and how often?

I always use one on my pistols but seldom on my VKs. Even as a master pistoleer (+74 pistol speed), my weapon must have extremely low speed -- close to 1.0 -- to fire Last Ditch at the cap. I can always use either more speed or more damage. For my faster guns, I use damage powerups and speed powerups for the slower ones.

For my VKs, I will occasionaly use HAM reducing powerups because I often find it difficult to get a mind buff.

I have had the best luck in virtually running my weapons into the ground before trying a repair. By the time the condition gets to about 250/1000, I feel like I've gotten my money's worth out of it. If it falls apart, no big deal. If I actually repair it, it seems like a bonus to me.

Here is a good site for weapon speed calculations. Unfortunately, it is light on melee weapons.

I'd think that a speed power up would wear your weapon down faster as well, since it puts out more shots within a given period of time than enhancing the damage would.

I ALWAYS powerup my weapons. Pistols are cheap in the long run. I like to give myself every atvantage I can.

When skimming through this post all I could think of was somebody using an uber scatter pistol on cute little puppy dogs. *cries*

I rarely use my Genosian because I don't ever want it to decay, but when I DO use it in PvP the powerups really make a difference and I figure since I'm not using it much anyway it cancels out the acceleration.

I am 99.9999999% sure that powerups increase decay, as does Krayt enhancment. Not too sure about slicing, since I don't know why on earth anyone would ever not slice their gun.

My rule of thumb: powerups only for major PvP battles, never for dueling, small raids, or PvE.

BTW: I crit fail on weapon repair more than 50% of the time, so I am paranoid about weapon decay.

Back in December, i was asking around about Weapon decay. The way it was put to me was that each weapon pretty much had a damage pool. Once a certain amount of damage was dealt using the weapon, its condition would drop a small percent. At that time, that seemed to be one of the common theories running on the weaponsmith forums. It holds true with slicing, powerups and Krayt. With any of those modifications, your weapon delivers much more damage in a shorter amount of time. Would be interesting to test it with various weapons made from as like materials as possible, doing solo runs. I say solo for the mere fact that if grouped, and you are using just a base blaster, the weapon is sure to hold up longer because your partners are picking up the slack.

This is my approach as well . I think that powerups for new players just starting to grind up marksman etc. is fine but for me it is more of an annoyance than it's worth.

I buy PU's by the crate from my friendly neighborhood weaponsmith (thanks Werrt!) and every one of my weapons in inventory gets a PU dropped on it if I see that it's currently without (you get a different color text for a PU'd weapon than one without). When I notice the system message that the PU is done, I don't stop combat to pop in a new one, but once the fight is over I try to remember to drop a new one in.

I use either Max/Min damage PU's,. or Speed/Min Dmg, depending on the weapon. Since my Genosians are slower than my Republics, I tend to add the Speed/Min on the Genosians ... keep in mind that damage mitigation in PvP works against max damage, not minimum (the last I heard), which means a higher minimum damage and speed gives you the greatest possible DPS in PvP.

That's my two cents ...

Even if it does accelerate the decay, I'd rather use up my weapon to get the kill than have a nice, shiny, newish weapon in the clone center.

It's made to use, if you're not going to use it, then why have it? I can see saving an extremely special weapon for extremely special purposes--but in the end, I think many of these weapons just end up on the auction block having never really been used. Pistoleer? No, more like a gun collector.

It really depends on where you are at in the skill tree. I used to use them mostly to speed up my slow guns or later my unsciled ones if I was wandering through a heavy crackdown city. Also to bring up the min damage.

But in all I've only used power ups ~ 15% of the time since launch.

It is not Urban legend that PU's increase decay. Just use a few on a weap and you will see the accelerated decay.

It was stated early on by the Devs that they increased decay. It is also written *somewhere* offical stating it.

I have also noticed the effect first hand.

they make it as good as a krayt weapon that u wouldn't use apower-up on it

Plus, i can burn up guns that cost me 20k in week anyway
