Thread: Do you guys use powerups and how often?

I used to ALWAYS power up my pistol due to the fact that it added anywhere from 50 to 70 damage. I recently found out however, that powerups accelerate the decay of the weapon. This has put a huge damper on my power up use, so I've considered only using power ups on my gun when Im fighting in places like the geo cave or something.

What guidelines do you guys use for when to "power up" your pistol?

Some people, all the time, others alomst never.

I'm in the almost never, too lazy to remember to get em out of the crate before combat.

Don't even get me started on repairs lol. Mine ALWAYS lower the max durability by half.

Do you ever get perfect repairs, if so what % repair tool do you use?

I usually dont because of firing so fast. I burn through them so fast at Master Pistoleer it is more of a nuisance than a help. The only exception is when I am going after something outrageously tough.

i always keep a bunch handy. i just don't like the random nature of powerups: its almost impossible to find the exact powerup you want, because the system chooses stat modifier types randomly.

Can anyone give me proof to where it says powerups increase the decay rate?

I do not seem to believe this. Sliced weapons do increase more, this I do know.

it seems like they don't actually increase decay rate.

i dont think any tests have been done to try it though.

On Intrepid there's a popular belief that repairs have been nerfed since Publish 7. Apparently the chance for a repair with only minor blemishes (the one that only drops the condition by 50-70 points) is either extremely rare or impossible to get. The average repair drops the maxcondition by 20%, and critical failures where the max condition drops to the current condition value, or the item falls apart, are much more common.

Powerups are nice, but it is commonly believed that they do increase rate of decay. People are a little more divided on the slicing issue. Personally, I buy weapons presliced and use powerups now and then. More of a "when I feel like it" than anything else. It would definitely make sense to use them when you go raiding higher level content with friends. I'm sure other weapons with higher base stats powerups make a bigger difference, since they are percentage based. Still, they are a nice luxury for us.

There are players who feel that the increased killing speed provided by powerups (and thereby increased mission completion rate) more than makes up for any cost of decay or the powerup itself.

There are also players who feel repair kits increase the rate of decay over time. You could be better off if you never used them! After critical failing (the item falls apart) using a kit with 100% functionality on a fairly intact Republic Blaster, I'm starting to believe them.

It is not Urban legend that PU's increase decay. Just use a few on a weap and you will see the accelerated decay.
