I'll elaborate a little more to clairfy my suggestion:
The affected ship(s) would have 0 cap power and has to wait for all systems to come back online before being able to continue fighting. The triggering ship would still have engine power but no cap or shield energy since it would have been drained off to fire Epulse3. The triggering ship would be able to boost away and either hyper out of system or get somewhere safe to recharge and rerun programs. The affected time would have to be a short duration, like 10 or 15 seconds, to give the triggering ship time to escape and recover. Itdoesn't have to reset droidprogs, it was an idea I suggested and could be expanded toreset droid programs of all affected ships as well.
How is temporarily disabling an attacker worthless? It would give the user a short window to get out of the situation and seeing how the reuse timer is 4 minutes, it's not intended to be used over and over in a battle. I fly Freelance ships and have yet to encounter a situation to use Epulse, but if it were to provide me a window for escape in situations where I don't feel like getting vapedI would use it.
I'm sick of people calling for nerfs on everything, wanting to remove things, or wanting to make it so it's no longer fun to fly/play. At least try to be constructive on a suggestion instead of calling it worthless. I'd rather make it so Freelance pilots can keep it, use it and not be called cheaters or exploiters, and make it something more JTL-like.
Your clarified suggestion is more viable, but not very useful to me in PvP. I would never run. I would rather win or lose right then and there. But that's just me, others may find it a useful last ditch. It would be useful in PvE, however. And I wasn't attacking you personally or callng your making a suggestion worthless. However, your suggestion as originally described would have made epulse a death sentence for the user in PvP. Just my opinion.

/agree 200%lets get back to doing what we do best..
Yeah...ranting about the JSF.. oops.. just kidding
Seriously tho, I only use /launchmissle either to play a joke on a fellow friendly pilot (I send them a "mwwhahaha" tell 1st so they know it's me) while waiting to run commands in space or on myself to alert people as to where I am, I refuse to use it in PVP because it's cheap and just waste's your oppenents chaff.
I think that /launchmissile should throw up a "dummy missile lock" message and a different sound instead of the usual "missile lock" message, that way you know its a dummy missle and will ignore it, then the griefers will stop using it cos it's not fun for them anymore.

Fixed.
As stated in many responses, there are counters to epulse3, including missiles, keeping your distance, and most importantly, wingmen! Very simply, coordinate with your wingmen and take turns on a neutral, don't both be in epulse range at the same time. If he epulses one of you the other should waste him right after.
If you're trying to apply some archaic dueling code to space warfare, it's about as silly as the British lining up in a field and then complaining when they got shot from behind the trees in the Revolutionary War. This argument reminds me of all the people that used to get pissed when a combat medic whipped out the poison and disease during a duel, or a creature handler whipping out the pets. It's part of their character, they should get to use it. If you can't modify your tactics to the situation, then maybe you need to rethink what you do.
Now, if you've pre-arranged a duel with conditions such as no epulse, and someone uses it, that's a different story.

QFFE!

Good point of view - since we all know nothing will come of this in the near future (if ever).
Looking at the thread - seems like no one thinks Epulse SHOULD be a first strike weapon. The disagreement falls squarely on "is it right" - which is a battle between two perspectives, and regardless of arguements (no matter how good)... everyone has their own point of view. The existence of epulse makes me very nervous in a turning fight... and adjusts my flying style (try to stay off as long as I can)
We can all dream of ways to change epulse, to make it more appropriate for pvp... or remove it from the game... etc, but in the end... See line 1.
So in summary... gas is too expensive, we should all ride bikes.

The biggest gripe always seems to be that poorly skilled pilots and/or griefersuse the "cheat" ships and tactics to make up for their poor skill. But I still fail to understand why good pilots complain about these people. If a weak pilot is a known EP3 abuser, there is a very good counter for it...you are a better pilot. As I've said before....you could give a weak RGI pilot EP3 and unlimited lag missiles and he might get you a few times, but in the long run, your skill as a pilot will win out over his skill as a button pusher. So this debate on EP3/RGIs and so on seems pointless.
Now if a good pilot gets a hold of an RGI or is in a well equiped Vaksai with one finger on the EP3 button then you're in real trouble. I personally made a choice not to fly my RGI becasue it wasn't fair. If I'm in an Interceptor or a TIE/H you're dead before you even launch. But in an RGI I felt like a pre-CU TKM, fully buffed in uber comp armor beating up on dwarf Nunas. And I have yet to use EP3 in PVP but it is there and should I feel the need I will not think twice or feel bad about using it.
