with the new Elite components comming out, looks like i am going to have to dust off my opressor and bomb the heck out of YTs
the only time i have used epulse is when im in my YT on a RGI cause we kept getting blown to hell.
yeah but I still want to use my opressor. new PoB blasters gonna be a 1 hit wonder
Back to the original subject, I *NEVER* used any Epulse command in space during PvP. (Heck, I never used it in PvE, either.)
During my stint in the Freelance squadrons, I became convinced of a few things:
1. Krayts are PvE monsters.
2. Dunelizards are surprisingly large for their mass. (I can evade enemy fire for a little while in an X-Wing, but my Dunelizard seemed to have a large bullseye painted on it.)
3. It's REALLY difficult to find the cockpit of the YT-1300 (when you're under attack) if you don't decorate your ship properly.

Heh. You're assuming you'll have competent gunners.

EDIT: I'd also be interested in whether people think there is a difference between someone who sneaks up in DS and /epulses with no warning - i.e. uses it as a first strike - and the person minding their own business in DS who doesn't really want to PVP but, even as a freelancer, is forced into an overt status and subsequentlyuses /epulse as a defensive measure only when he/she is attacked by another player.
I was just thinking the same thing. I had a guy yelling at me in tells for ruining the game the other night because I wouldn't let him take out the ISD. He said over and over he didn't like PvP and that he wasn't there to fight. Then he said the dreaded, "space pvp doesn't take skill!" statement, and, um, it got ugly after that.
First time I went to DS I was terrified, watched my radar frequently, and fully expected to be vaped. Anyone who does less deserves to be shot.
Not to mention, the last time I left someone alone to farm they later snuck up on me and tried to shoot me in the back. Good thing they were a lousy shot.
This thread tickles me.
I'm not putting this out as flame bait, but as perspective. I see alot of talk about "I win buttons", "Uber leet doods" and "saber stroking". Space is a twitch, skill game. JSF, RGI, Heavy varients, all add to this. The point though is that E-pulse is a tactic. Want to get around E-Pulse? Fly in a wing. Then for the pilot who uses E-pulse it is a last ditch attack, he might drop the person he is dogfighting, but your wingmate who should be intelligent enough to start up strafing runs will make short work of him. If he comes back, you both do strafing runs because now you know.
The people who are having issues with E-Pulse, are solo pilots. Your skill is your "I win button", your ability to carve through multiple targets is your "leetness" and you are doing the same thing in space that you attribute to the "saber strokers". In ground PvP, don't wanna get ganked by a Jedi bring backup if you can't go toe to toe. In space PvP, don't wanna get ganked by E-Pulse, bring back up because you can't go toe to toe. That, or simply adjust your tactics if there is any possibility of your target using a freelance special.
Then again, I generally fly with a wingmate when I hit DS. It may make me less leet, but a pilots pride will not attest to that, not on these boards. So even if I'm less leet I will tell you right now, I have no problem with E-Pulse. One of us may drop, but that sucker is dead as soon as he hits the button. Group game people, group game.![]()

I fly with wingmen regularly. I used to be a solo pilot. There is no use saying 'learn to get around epulse' because it is impossible. Why is it impossible? Well..simply because noone I know..and I know a -lot- of pilots, has any consistant strategy to get around it.I defy anyone to say otherwise and would expect visual evidence of them getting around it. As for using wingmen as expendable Epulse fodder, that too is unacceptable. There should be some way around the damned attack without resorting to suicide runs.
Also, you make many assumptions. Though you do not target me specifically, it is obvious you are unaware of my basic mind frame which is ..'I don't give a good god damn about how 'leet' or not I may be'. My issue with epulse is the fact that it is too spontaineous and strong an attack. It makes the game far too easy and is without a doubt an unfair advantage to anyone who wishes to use it as a sole tactic. Yeh, it isn't cheating but like a great deal of thing sin this game, it isn't just unbalanced..it is beyond reasonable.
Bare in mind too, before you tear into me that I'm flyin an under par ship and am more than capable of going against the best of them in their JSF etc. I have no problem with the JSF..at least it takes conscious thougt to place shots and lock on missiles. Hell, same with the RG TIE when it boils down to it. I just fail to see how -anyone- could say that a 'skill' which sends out what amounts to a total catastrophic blast in every direction to a range which is...more than wide enough considering how pvp works in this game and which has no warning and is instantaineous is fair.
Now fine...life isn't fair, but there is this thing called in game balance. I know SOE really have shown that the balance to JTLS really seems to be the last thing on their agenda (evidence being POB ships only just now being upgraded to an acceptable standard in the upcoming publish) but that simply isn't good enough.
In fact, while I sit here considering this some more (which is really getting old..I think I'll move on after this thread gets finished with) I wonde rhow an Epulser would feel if they got epulsed. I wonder if they'd still think it was just atactic or would they be the first to point the accusing finger of self righteousness.
/shrug. I just want it known though that I'm not complaining about this for selfish reasons. If I were Freelance, I wouldn't make use of it at all.

Multiplayer Ship Component Changes
- To make multiplayer ships more formidable, major Elite component changes have been made. These changes will affect newly created Elite components.
- Elite Capacitor energy and recharge values have been increased.
- Elite Shields have had their shield points increased significantly in front and back, as well as their recharge rate.
YT 1300... activate E-pulse 3, can we say OUCH!!!! It'll be enough to vaporize a small moon...![]()

Or in DS, take out the ISD and the Invulnerable Freedom station if you sit at 0000 0000 0000

Tool of the trade. If you're up against a Freelancer, you kill the reactor and its no big deal. If you aren't sure, still shoot the reactor.
No big deal? First try to kill reactor of a JSF or Vaksai before he epulsed you...

I do that with astounding regularity, its my SOP against any enemy ship. JSFs and Vaksai just take a little more sweat and effort to pull it off. If you go up against a known EPulser, you hang back and missile them.
