/agree

the y-8 needs to be fix ed

way i seee it the pilots wepond should be the minning laser to drill the asteroid asnd either turrets place differently or mor added so you can put tractor beams in them to tractor it in plus reducing the speed the asteriod chicks fly away at would help with this ship anyway

theplus of this ship atm is the the interor and the ship is more or lwss a house boat in space not much more

just forget about the time line it nolonger exits her hasn't for some time. we're in a virtual star wars universe and it our time line not the movies. so its what we make of this universe ourselves. once this is realized then you'll start having fun

Two more bugs for the list:

  • Can't move items up/down (get a [error_furniture_move] message)

  • Can't add people to the admin list

Hi

Just got mine today

well if you put the mining laser on top and the beam on the aft, then it could work i suppose? park in front and turn the ship 180 degrees

Right now it is just bugged - firing on an asteroid with the mining laser and no chunks???

anyone tried that yet?

happy flying everyone

I'm curious, I haven't gotten into mining or the Y8 ship yet, but is it feasable to put the mining laser on the top turret and the tractor beam on the fixed point (pilot operated)? Seems like a logical set up for the pilot to be acheiving position to pull the actual chunks in (they migrate to center ship) while the top turret breaks the peices off and acts as defense along with the rear turret in the event of being jumped. Or is there something I am missing in regards to the assorted bugs associated with the vessel and or mining equipment? All of this could be acheived through a 3rd person veiw if I am not mistaken.

Yeah, as far as I can tell, you could put the tractor beam in Gun 2, the main gun. But, it appears that the gun slot itself is not working, no matter what weapon you put in. I also feel that the tractor beam would be more effective in the top turret, as the Y-8 is not very maneuverable, and it takes very careful aim to keep the beam on the asteroid chunk.

I have been playing with the y8 as a mining wessel and I have yet to figure out why ?

last night I thought I had it but nope the tractor beam seems to be very bugged if put on a y8.

so after totaly filling upsome system(can't remember which)with asteroids I gave up went back to homebase and equipped the y8 with some of the biggest guns I had and went to deepspace and it was a scream.

I have made all the elite parts for my y8 along with a capacitor with a recharge of 60

It's top speed (running all the droid commands etc) is 1100 with boosters it goes up to 1444 and the boosters last quite a while.

we were taking on corvettes with it it makes an excellent mp battle cruiser (even though we only had 2 people in it 4 would of been nicer).

It was a scream.

It would be better if it had more guns though.

It is a very fast ship stupidly fast non of the starfighters can keep up with it. Although it does have the turning circle of a small moon at full speed it is suprisingly agile at 2/3rds throttle.

So y8 as mining vessel nope y8 as battle cruiser oh yeah

How touse theY-8.

Put the tractor on top turret, mineing laser on fixed mount, and Big Frikin Gun on the bottom turret.

Use an engine with high YPR so you can turn on a dime at low speeds.

You must have atleast a 2 man crew. 1 pilot 1 turret opperator. the pilot opperates the mineing laser and the gunner opperates both turrets.

Pilot needs to fly in the 3rd person view or you simply cant see what your shooting and your relation to the tiny fragments and the tractor beem turret. The bullseye retical is not where the mineing laser is going to shoot, you will have to eye ball it. Once a chunk has been broken into fragments manuver the ship so the tractor beem can suck them in. Keep the ship steady so the turret opperator can do his job effecently. If you have to chace a roid fly under it not at it. If you fly at it the tractor beem won't be able to reach it.

You will have to do combat. To do combat the turret man needs to switch to the weapons turret. the pilot needs to target the closest ship and start moving forward. Match the targets speed once you have a little distance from the target. this causes your enemys to trail behind you and in range of the gunner which should now have an EZ shot. Don't try avoiding fire, this only makes the gunners job impossable, fly in a strait line or a wide steady arc around the roid your mineing.

A 5k cargo hold can be filled withinn 15-20 minutes depending on how coordinated the crew is and how good your equipment is.

If there is 1 thing that EVE Online has taught me... It is how to mine Roids.

In EVE Online, you Mine the best when you have a few small dedicated mining ships (fighers with Mining Lasers and maybe a tractor beam), and a Huge Cargo Hauler (the Y8).

Until SOE Devs get the many bugs and design fixes worked out on the Y8, try using it as a Cargo Hauler instead of using it as an actual mining ship.

Load your Y8 with Tractor Beams, and get some friends to load Mining Lasers on their Fighters.

The strategy is to get the small ships to do the mining work (breakapart Roids), then the Cargo Hauler stores the Mined Roids. The trick is the Tractoring of the Small Roids. If the fighters can tow the roids back to the Y8, then you are in business. If not, then the Y8 has to chase the Small Roids.

To use the Y8 as the Miner and Hauler, youwill have totry thesuggestion postedabove about using the Mining Laser in the Pilots Weapon Slot with the Tractor Beam on top.

Keep up the good suggestions.

Reydar

The main problem with a Y-8 isn't that you can never mine, just that other things do it better.

Quote "A 5k cargo hold can be filled withinn 15-20 minutes depending on how coordinated the crew is and how good your equipment is."

A friend and I were mining in a pair of starfighters (I use a Dunelizard with tractor and Mark III mining laser, and my friend in her X-wing with Mark III mining laser and real gun, both with 1500 starfighter holds). Needless to say, two very nimble ships working together can mine things very fast

A real difference to using the Y-8 is that when the pirates show up, particularly in a more "intersting" area like Kessel, the pair of good starfighters can easily rip them apart, so pirates are a minimal interruption to the mining.

When all is said and done, it takes very little time to jump to a station, land, and unload - remembering that the other person is still mining - so overall the Y-8 just dosen't compete in my view, for the simple fact that a player in a Y-8 can only control one gun or one tractor, but the same player in a starfighter can have both (or more - a pair of Mark III's and a tractor in a Kryat work nicely as well). Due to the relative ease and speed of unloading, the hold size is really not that important.

All that said, I do have a tractor beam and a large cargo hold for my YT-1300, I love that ship, but it's pretty near useless too

There are two probles with using the tractorbeam ontop (and infact anywhere on the Y-8):

  1. To collect a roid, the roid has to be pulled to around 5m of your turret. However, tractors default to aiming the roid towards the center of the ship rather than the center of the turret hitting it.. so unless you've cought it from the right angle, the roid will aim towards the center of the Y-8 and when within a certain distance of the ship will no longer be within the arc of the top turret because it cant aim down.

  2. Because of the speed the roids blast away from the destroyed chunk, a turret only has enough time to target and pull 1-2 roids

This is the problem. If it was just as simple as sticking a tractor in the top turret I, and others, wouldn't have any issues with this ship. But as it currently stands with the way tractoring works, 1 or 2 turrets on the Y-8 is just not pheasable and it certainly wont allow you to mine faster than a single X-Wing.

Right now, the only solution IS to have fighters doing the majority of the work for you. The Y-8 can use its main laser to blast the chunks while small agile fighters with a tractor installed (such as X-Wings and Interceptors) tractor the roids toward the Y-8 so either one of its turrets can tractor it in. But even this will have the same tractoring issues so I'm really uncertain if it will truly make any difference.

Me and a friend tried this out too, but now it cant even break parts of an asteroid...nothing happens when fireing with the Y-8 on an asteroid...tried both mark 1,2 and 3... amazing!

I have a stranger issue... When I say that my Y-8 can't mine, I don't mean that it doesn't do a good job or is inefficient... I mean it Can't Mine. I have it loaded up with Class III mining lasers, I travel out to an asteroid, park within 450m and blast away.

nothing. laser fires, I hear big booms, I see explosions on the asteroid, but no chunks come off. Ever. Not a one.

Anyone have any idea what could possibly be wrong? The same cannons work fine in my fighter.

I had this same problem last night in my Krayt. I was mining in Naboo, and after I had landed in Theed to empty out the cargo bay, I relaunched and returned to the same asteroid I was harvesting from, to discover that nothing was breaking off for me anymore. I found another asteroid of the same material 14K away, travelled to it, and that one worked.

Not sure what happened. Was a puzzler to me.
