Well see there we have the "Are you just gonna get a bunch of ppl an make money for yourself" or "are you gonna be a successful mining ship with a crew" scenario.
If the Y-8 can mine effectively enough to make a profit, you can setup wages for an actual crew. The more runs you make, the larger your profit margin, the more crew you can have on the payroll.
Not to mention that the larger the crew the less likelyhood of 2 people taking a Y-8 and ruining the business of those that actually want to do it in a group.
You have POB ships to mine with 2-3 people. I say add more turrets and make the Y-8 require a good handful.

Such large mining groups might be all of 2 or 3 ships on the entire server. Have you looked lately at how many people the average guild has active these days? The vast majority of guilds can't crew a ship the way your suggesting. Certainly not more than a handful mining ships would even be out shooting asteroids. The resource yield of such a small number of ships isn't enough to get market out of its DOA state. I find your large crew requirement impractical in the extreme.

And as far as suggesting people grow their guilds or merge just to operate mining ships, I think we can see beyond the end of our nose here and know that the general population wont do that. They will just declare the Y-8 a POS and go on to other things they consider more fun. Gotta face reality here. It's going to be a very small segment of the population that will even be interested in mining ships. It's going to have to be designed along the real life farmer model where one person provides the goods/resources for the hundreds who would much rather be over on Kashyyyk shooting wookies.

The solution needs to stick to the existing crew of three.

I'd argue for an extra two hard points, either side of the bottom foil. Replace those escape pods with turrets, it'll help cover that awful blind spot the mining ship has too.

Adding more crew does not help much. When you get to 4 or 5 people, its just easier to have 4 or 5 fighters doing the mining than tying these people up with the Y-8

Point is, you don't "require" someone on every turret. Just because the Y-8 may in theory have 6 turrets doesn't mean they all have to be occupied to run.. it just means more people equals greater efficiency which in my book is far better than just saying "ok whatever your crew size you only need 2 ppl to man a turret". And quite frankly, the less Y-8's there are operating at any given time the better. I would hate to see every asteroid in every system camped by several Y-8's.

This is supposed to be the "elite" of the mining vessels. Adding a larger possibility of crew allowing greater resource yield etc is a step in the right direction.

"Adding more crew does not help much. When you get to 4 or 5 people, its just easier to have 4 or 5 fighters doing the mining than tying these people up with the Y-8"

That is precisely the point. The Y-8 should be such that an entire group of 8 people aboard it is MORE efficient at mining than 8 fighters mining solo.

I'm not saying you have to have a large crew of 3+ to mine with it.. I'm saying the more people you'd have aboard, the more you will be able to collect at any given time.

Was that last night? Last night I was trying to mine in Naboo space, but it was so laggy I could barely hit a tier-1 pirate. When I moved to Lok system, everything was normal.

I've managed to find some "special chunks" or asteroid from mining. Not sure exactly what they are for but they sure make pretty decorations for my guild halls .

I think overlapping Arcs would be an idea for the Y-8 sorry if this was said already. I think you need 2 or 3 people working together to pull this off: the pilot maneuvers the ship and possible operate a mining laser, Ops 1 can also have a mining laser, and Ops 2 can use the tractor man and pull rocks in. Also I think Ops should be able to switch from weapon mounts if necessary and not have to move from station to station.

The pilot / owner of vessel can also "switch" station if the gun/position he wants isn't occupied. I'm still delving into multi-player ships but I'm still learning about them. Soon I'll have a friend or two help me out and finally get into space and try it fully for myself.

The chunks are used by Shipwrights to make some of the new special ship specific paint kits.

They are also a cool and VERY LARGE decoration, ala anActual Size Asteroid.

I sure would like the Dev who came up with the idea for this ship to explain it to us. It DOES NOT mine asteroids effectively, I could put my crew of 5 in 5 seprate ships and collect 50 times as much, in the same time they would spend on a Y-8.

How the heck can anyone fill a crafted30k capacity hold in under amonth in this thing?

When I first walked around in my new Y-8 I was impressed with how big it was and oh YES! it has a Captain Kirk style chair with two ops stations in front...niiiiiiccceeee! I was expecting maybe another level but I'm not going to complain.

I put some nice parts on her and heavy shields, armor, the works. I can get her up to nearly 1100 (1400 boosted) speed to get away from pirates. The fact that I can't drop and place any items in her is annoying (had that kashyyyk bantha plaque all ready).

I was looking forward to hiring a crew (1 or 2 people) and pay them for helping me out. Now I hear all this about the problems with gun arcs and I hope they fix that because I love my Y-8 (yes I said it) so far. It's big and bulky but it has potential once the bugs are worked out.

I think the comments about the arcs and not having to chase down rocks should've been given and worked out in Beta (also said). I see potential in space mining and would like to actively participate and make a profit in pirating...I mean mining mining eh...sorry. Gotta love the tractor beam would love to try running up on a frigate and trying this out. Anybody know if the tractor beam can suck cargo off commercial trade...besides from the kashyyyk mission that is?

I was doing some diamond mining (solo) in Kessel and it was fun even when the Frigate showed up and that's part of the game. Sorry to go on and on but I also noticed while in Kessel I was (PvP Enabled), I'm not sure whether I can be attacked by opposite faction players but made me wonder.

anyways just wanted to throw in my 2 creds,

Last night I decided to actually try mining solo in my Y-8. It worked pretty well. Of course I only had the mining laser 1 equiped due to buggieness.

Without a partner using a tractor beam it is challenging to manuevor that beast at low speeds. But it "worked". I'm going to continue using my Oppressor for mining to gather all the resources I need to fully load this ship with the new POB parts (I know, thjey're not worth it today... but once these shipwright fixes go in they will be!) I'll have everything crafted after I collect all my resources, I figure about a week from now.

I noticed the Y8 wasn't even mentioned in the patch notes. I'm hoping they'll get the inventory, turrets, and forward firing gun fixed soon. I'm dying to decorate this thing and get busy mining for real.

Last time that I tried to use a Y-8 to mine we um... I think we nearly broke Naboo space. The guys kept shooting at the main asteroid and before I knew it half my radar was covered in green dots. We caused a mess in space

Well I just earned the Y-8 "mining vessel", and its true that it cant mine. What I dont understand is how SOE can release an expansion that is not ready, I meen this is not a bug... This ship is not designed in a way wich make it impossible to mine in an effective way. Have anyone here ever expreinced any expansion so buggy and unfinished as this one? I was looking forward to using the mingvessel, and now this!

Anyway I think it should be possible to mine alone but it should be more effective if u are a big crew. To tell u the truth I dont think many of my friends in the game wants to join mefor some "exiting" mining....

Btw I think Vampiric_Hoshi has writen some really good stuff in this thread.... I realy want this ship to start working
