Well look at it this way, if you need to hit them 4 or sotimes youre just prolonging the inevitable (unless its you got slammed jousting them) If they hit you once they are likely to be outmanovering you and thus you wont get a hit no matter how much you can take.

I find space PvP much more inclusive than ground PvP. It is twitch based rather than level based. Most importantly, anyone can participate. Even when I was a CL1 devoted crafter, I could launch into space and kick tush. Another advantage to the skill level is that damage can be evaded. There is no way that you can take on a 3 people of your level on ground. Skill can overcome this in a twitch based system.

that's an excellent point, and it sums up the differences between the skill level PVP takes on the ground and between the skill level space PVP takes.

Space PvP duration is directly porportional to the skill of the people involved. Most particuarlly on 1 vs 1 scenarios. Less so with a furball.

There are situations where you may end up in a 15-20 min arm wrestling contest. (feels that way as long as your moving the joystick around - ive had 3 such fights back to back, my arm was tired). Then there are situations where your facing 2+ ppl vs just you, and your vaped very quickly. Then there are situations where you win or lose by just plain dumb luck.

If your ego is too fragle to handle that, then stick with spamming specials on the ground. Not everyone has the mindset to be able to handle space PvP.

QFMFE!!!

A good pilot will last. A good load out will absorb the blows. I've been in some great cat and mouse dogfights in kessel where we are weaving in and out of the astroid belt, around vettes, through nebulas, and finally, after almost 45min, and several hits it was over. And this was before you could shunt. But there have been times where it's been over in seconds.

Also think about this....how long do dogfights last in ANY sci-fi film/TV series? Especially in mass battles. Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, and so on. Unless you are a scripted "hero" one shot and you're dusted.

Space combat is fast and deadly and it requires not only physical skill, but you also need some kind of real time tactical knowledge and skill, better than average situational awareness, a knowledge of ALL ships and weaponry, a knowledge of the space system, a basic knowledge of ACMs helps, ice water in your veins, and a massive ego. What do you need on the ground? A strong knowledge of your template, food stacking skills, and a strong index finger for all of that right clicking.

ok people argue that space pvp is better than ground pvp because it requires skill.......yeh right.

Everything is a 1 shot kill its completly pointless tbh. Im not saying ships should be able to absorb large amounts of dmg, but atleast make it so u can have actuall dogfights atm its first hit = wins.

Honestly how much skill does it take to pull a trigger once and win....none.

Translation: I took my JSF out to try some PvP and got my @$$ handed to me in less than a second. This is totally unfair! I am teh ub3r! I should pwnz0r everything in my path. How dare they make space battles act like the Star Wars movies actually do?

Treena, you forgot this part...

I would just like to take this opportunity to say...I think that jedi cloak and healing should work in space, and jedi should be able to convert pilot xp to FS xp.

If this is who i think it is, the guy in question was in DS about a hour ago. He got me a missle (one shot too, so i assume it was a proton mk3), fair dues, he caught me off guard, i went to get my img rec and chaff launchers, while i was a friend of mine was also in DS. Apparently the person who killed me had been killed pretty much instantly by 1 person 3 times. I think this is the resulting post.

Yeh it is higgs im just saying it doesnt seem exactly fun 1 shot killing. Nope wasnt me who got killed instantly 3 times after u. After i killed u me an tekiko flew at each other and ended up both dieing.

Then my ship was bugged and shields and cap werent regening so had to enter deepspace and leave to fix but someopne decided to kill me.

I made this post because everything is a 1 shot kill and its hardly fun.

And for the noob who came out with bullsh*t post off i took my jsf out and got pwned go away and learn how to be civil. FYI i was in an opressor for a laugh

I was asking for people opinions on wether they think ti should be 1 shot kills.. as i dont exactly find it fun even when im doing the killing.

You really shouldnt insult space pvp when you have no clue about it. Before you even start..no you don't. It can be annoying yes, yes it takes too long to get back and yes..a lot of people are complete morons when they get killed by you or kill you but meh..ignore it.

As for one hit kills..well it is kinda realistic like that. Ever seen the films? e.g "it came from behind?!" *BOOM* etc..Thing is, there is hope. Get a small ship, try the Quantum ion drive quest and dodge more. Hell, I'm flying an A-wing which is more or less always a one hit death for me no matter what I faceand...well I get way more kills than I do deaths simply because over the last owever many months I've been playing...I've learned from those around me.

Adopt this mantra "Fly as to not get hit" rather than "I need more shielding on this ship so when I do get hit I'll live." Now shields and armour are great..but don't obsess about them. The key to a good starfighter is engine, weapons...then shielding in that order especially if you're after some kind of superiority starfighter role.

On starsider, I have had battles with people which have lasted over half an hour because neither of us could get a decent shot lined up because quite simply, our ships were so small, fast and manouverable..as well as whatever skill we possess. I see where you're coming from. PvP is a b*tch when you first start...I wanted to be good at it but hated it at the same time when I started. I was determined to stick with my x-wing even though it wasn't the ship for me...after some persuasion [a lot of it] I got into the ship I can fly well...the A-wing. You can do the same.

If you want to succeed at pvp in space you will...however, if you're just some guy yelling because it isn't as easy as clicking a button on the ground and aren't planning on doing it anymore..then please, don't come around here whining where you would be quite simply mocked..

So my advice to you is this...Choose the ship you like best. Get attuned to it. Duel as many people as you can and learn somthing every time..even if you score victory. Watch your opponents and see wha they're doing to die/or to win. Make friends with your enemies unless they're idiots..in which case just put them on ignore and finally and most importantly..drop the pride and prepare to be humbled.

BTW, saying you were flying in Kessel when it was a pvp zone does zilch for your credibility because you have made it blatant you know nothing so do not preach to those who -know-.

Ok, hows this for excitement..erm.../ponder.

The whole pilot forum is one huge scandal. In reality there are only about five actual people posting all these threads etc...just under completely different names and about 40 alts each

Ok that was plain silly.

Oh hell, I can't say too much here. I came back after a 7 month break and walked headlong into the world of JSF combat in a VERY outmoded X-Wing. Learned hard and fast that the old rules were looooong gone and sounded a lot like the OP for a few weeks.

Interestingly, once I dislodged my head from my ass, it took less than two months to get a fighter capable of competing together. Now I'm up to two PvP capable ships and considering a third.

Again u are assuming im complaining cause i die. I kill and i die what im saying is i dont think its the most challenging thing to 1 shot kill someone.

I had a 5 min battle yesterday against two jedi starfighters. It took them 4 hits to finally bring me down in my A-wing and the last min or so of the fight I didn't even have working guns. If you are getting one hit killed and one hit killing then neither you nor your targets have a very good loadout or know how to use your programs. This ain't the ground game. There isn't as much room for screwing up.
