Thread: Space pvp ...more pointless than ground pvp ??

I'm relatively inexperienced in space pvp (4 kills to 2 deaths so far.. space pvp on radiant's a bit limp at the mo.) but what I have experienced has been fast and fun.

Space combat should be be quick hit kills unless you are in a heavy ship with huge shields and armour.

The thrill comes from tyring to outmanouver each other and trying to get a shot or a missile off (the fight between guld and the ghost-x9 in macross plus springs to mind for a good example of a dogfight with hardly any weapon fire, just trying to get a lock on)

I'd rather spend 5-10 minutes dogfighting in deep space (even if I lose my head and get taken out) than spend 45 minutes on the ground fighting a single jedi (yes I've done that, I ended up burst running away out of boredom.. I was falling asleep)

And plus, they made deep space a decay free zone because they knew that fights would be quick and people would blow up often.

If you're a good pilot vs an equally good or better pilot.

That one shot is oh-so-satisfying.

I came out on top of what I bet was a 5min turn war with a JSF last night, he tagged me once and didnt get through my shields, I shunted it off, nicked him and bit through his shields/armor and about 21% engines, the next shot I got in about 2 to 3 mins later took him out, and by that time my mouse hand was shaking so bad it was all I could do to type in the alias I use to hyperspace to Lok, thats a rush I'll NEVER get from ground pvp.

Space PvP is fine, IMHO, leave it as it is, or maybe make it possible to out-maneuver missiles. *shrug*

My PvP on Radiant has been similarly rare... hoping to change that soon. I'm at 2 wins and 1 loss so far, + 1 tie (tie as in nobody won, not tie as in TIE). He blew up, I was disabled. LOL Personally, I can't wait to get into one of the DS events that I hear about sometimes. Both my toons PvP ships are virtually complete... so look out for me soon.

Recently, I've been trying to figure out how survivable my Heavy X-Wing is. I'll keep my S-foils closed, maneuver to evade and see how long (and how many shots) it takes to down my ship.

The record was against a Tie Oppressor and JSF. 3 missile shots, 5 (!!!) blaster hits. It's good to have CTSS coupled with 2840 energy in the capacitor.

Do any of you old timers remember when Eaca was around and she suggested the Deflector Shield calculations to make the heavier ships a bit tougher?

Ive been thinking about the same for a vaskai. The sucker is huge. Its about the size of an xwing... acutally a touch bigger maybe. But it has the mass to load it out to take a knock or two before going belly up on me.

I remember the name Eaca. You talking about an intrinsic mitigation bonus that is varied on chassis idea? I know thats been tossed around alot.

The whole pilot forum is one huge scandal. In reality there are only about five actual people posting all these threads etc...just under completely different names and about 40 alts each

Ok that was plain silly.

it wasn't the intrinsic mitigation bonus, it was more of a "deflector shield system". maybe that's the wrong term. anyway the gist of it was that you take a 2000 dmg shield, apply 10,000 dmg to it, and it knocks the shield down to 0, as opposed to letting 8,000 dmg pass through. it's a good idea, however i believe the ROTW ships make the idea somewhat obsolete. if the ROTW ship hitboxes were increased to a-wing size (and correct size for the IGI) then i think it'd be worth mentioninng the mechanic again. nowadays, without the ROTW ships getting "fixed" i'd say intrinsic mitigation based on chassis would be more appropriate, if anything. leaning more towards "if anything" honestly. i don't think a POB fix is far off folks, mark my words, and that's going to wildly change how things work in space.

Yup. Come over to SS Bo-rai. It'd be cool. You were getting real good with your A-wing just before I left.
