Not to mention that an Engine usually has more hitpoints and armor than a reactor, so by targetting the engine you forego the more effective target in order to grief other players - there is NO reason to target an engine, ever.

What difference does it make?
An Imperial or Neutral without a reactor *has to* EJECT... leaving every single ship component INCLUDING THE ENGINE with 0 AP and thus FULL DECAY.
Exploding your ship *anywhere* except Deep Space has exactly the same consequences, no matter how it was accomplished.
This nitty-gritty BS of "reactor ok, engine not" is pedantics, if you fight outside of deep space and someone wins, then the loser is getting their stuff degraded. Period.
If you want to congratulate yourself on your honor because you did not directly target the engine go ahead, but you're lying to yourself if you believe they didn't suffer the loss exactly as badly as if you had.

Rebels *sometimes* may be able to use VRep, to get to DS for decayless repair.... but don't count on that either.
In any case, all the more reason the devs should have balanced crafted to be on par with looted/RE'd for all components, especially core components like engines.
I will not ever PvP outside of Deep Space, and encourage others who want to protect their hard-earned components to do the same.
Else you have no right to complain either way.

Hello? Reactor out, ship dead in space, next pass take it out. No ejecting neccessary. Elementary, really. I do not target reactors anyway, for the record, but the idea to leave a ship drifting into space, forcing the player to eject, instead of blowing him or her up and saving him or her decay seems pretty far out. I don't know any pilot who would do such a thing.
Again, if it seems farfetched: After disabling the reactor, should you do that, you blow the ship up.

Which, again, decays all the components. Engine included.
What I'm getting at is no matter how it is accomplished, destruction of the ship anywhere but ds decays it and the parts.

ive had instances where someone destroyed my chasis without hitting the reactor or engine, and i was still able to to fly without needing to repair. if you eject however, everything takes damage.
what you can do, is buy some repair kits and some cheap crafted parts along with a throw away ship. eject form the ship, and use the kit till it has 5-10 points left. then you repair your precious engine/reactor with it, and you will be able to limp to deep space for the rest of the repairs taking minimal to no decay. to make it go a little faster, swap out your booster if it was hit with a fresh one. you can always make another trip to ds to repair the good booster once your engine and reactor are working.

Ramona_Garcia wrote:THIS IS A GAME. Keep the "this is a war" crap to the in character RP forums,...
And ill typically respond its a game about war. If i go up for a duel, thats one thing, but if i go about against an opposing force, i wlll hurt them to the best of my ablity, before they do the same, and i expect no less from them. Disabeling someones reactor isnt about forced decay, its about forcing their return to that area to be longer.
If you outnumbered, its probably your best option, Disable the mo'fo, and move on to the next.

blockading deep space stations. Every overt pilot who's traveing too deep space or kessel MUST pass through there. Its a chockpoint. If you want to deny kessel/deepspace to the overt enemy, if you want to control those sectors, you stop them THERE. But im sure folks on starsider knew that a long time ago
Thats not the point, the point was control of that faction farm known as deepspace. Theoritically, one can farm bases there faster then anything on the ground. Control of that faction farm equates directly to more ground bases quicker. If people are actively trying to farm that sector for the purpose of purchasing bases, it's in your factions best intrest to shut them down, less you faction could lose more on the ground.
Again, i look for an overall goal, just a dogfight isnt enough for me. If im going to get blown out of the sky, or have my ship shreded to bits, i want it to be for some purpose other than a quick thrill.
If you ask me, JTL isnt active yet, theres no case for the GCW other than any organized effort to farm DS.

if we had a purpose in jtl, then alot more people would be playing it. ive tried to start up organized DS farming, but no one else wants it.
if we had 10 rebel pilots hitting the isd at the same time, it would go down almost instantly, and every pilot who hits it gets 500fp. we would be making 5000fp every 2-3min.
if you wanted to be cheap, you could have most of the group just sit in a blindspot with their fire button stuck. then you just have a few fighter pilots to hit the reactor and take care of any imperials who show up.

I personally am entirely with Ramona on this. It is a game and we receive fun from each other... there is really no need for OOC argueing between factions. Treat others how you want to be treated and you will enjoy winning and loosing more
So enough with this argueing please... I don't think anyone will be convienced here. Both groups made their point.Rather give me some more tactics

here is the ultimate tactic.
shoot your enemy, and dont get shot while doing it.
Thats acutally the truth. Talk tactics all you want the the reality is everything happends so damn fast you dont have time to think. You see, and you react. Thats all there is to it.
Your first reaction will be your natural one. Tactics are learned through training - the trick is making training your natural reaction. Practice duels with crappy weapons are great training tools. It is repeptiiton through practice that engraves training as a response.

I just kill. I dont say anything unless they say something to me. I fight to win.

...and compare that to the attitudes demonstrated by a couple of Starsider's pilots, Ramona and Kitten, for a great example. That is why Starsider sees more space PvP. Attitudes are different. Rather than "I fight to win," it's "I fight to have a good time."

Don't get me wrong. I have a good time too. But that's almost secondary.
IE i fight to kill and have a good time doing that.

Oh, I don't doubt you're having a good time...but your priorities are different. Starsider's primary purpose in PvP is largely to have fun and get blood pumping...not necessarily to kill the "enemy" or even consider that player an enemy.
