Don't get me wrong. I have a good time too. But that's almost secondary.
IE i fight to kill and have a good time doing that.

Oh, I don't doubt you're having a good time...but your priorities are different. Starsider's primary purpose in PvP is largely to have fun and get blood pumping...not necessarily to kill the "enemy" or even consider that player an enemy.
You don't feel what I feel lol. I ALWAYS have a good time. No matter what happens, I always have a laugh and have fun.

here is the ultimate tactic.
shoot your enemy, and dont get shot while doing it.

We really don't need our egos fed here
I do agree with Ducimus though... most is tactics in PvP is training what you need to do. But exactly to find out what you need to train is why I made this topic

I tell bad jokes on Ventrillo to distract my opponents and then shoot them. Hey, all's fair in Love and War!
All joking aside, the most important "tactic" is to constantly press the keys for "Target Nearest Enemy Player" and (if you detect one) "Target Next Enemy Player." Situational Awareness is the most important factor in over 75% of the PvP fights out there. If the enemy has a chance to get behind your 3-9 line and transition to your 6, the fight will almost always go really badly for you. The converse is true as well.

Hum..to be honest. I target reactor or engine in my a-wing just to disable them quicker. I -always- finish them off though because frankly, leaving someone who can't vrepair is just harsh and will put themoff pvp.
If you really are that amazing a pilot [this applies to noone in particular..just a generalisation] you shouldn't have to do this and should be willing to let your opponent come back for another round with a ship which is just as good or if you beat them..even better than the first time round.
PvP in space isn't about having a winner or loser...it, I don't know. Doesn't have very much point to it currently whatsoever, but one thing I do know is that it is fun...and that is what counts.
As for the viewpoint that 'this is a war so anything counts' type of thing, well I feel sorry for those people.
One of my 'tactics' is to make friends with my enemy...not so I can outdo them and use their tactics against them soley, but so we can organise pvp matches/game/encounters/call it what you will better.
I happily share my tactics with anyone on the other side just for the reason I want to see if they can better them...and then force me to adapt.
As far as I see it, JTLS at least is all about adaptation, cooperation between your fellow pilots regardless of faction and ultimately..fun.

I never target subsystems. When I'm up for a fight,I want a challenge, not just hit em twice to disable em, and another two which they cant do anything about, to kill 'em. I want them to fight to their fullest, so if I win, I don't have an empty victory.

Guess means you wont be talking to me much ingame anymore eh?
*shrug*
War is war, you fight to win.
A duel is a duel, you fight for honor.
Both are opposites, and shouldnt be confused with one another in my mind. That said, im not openly hostile to people personnaly in either one. But in the GCW, i fight to win, both on a tactical, and strategic level - and i wont tie one hand behind my back and be half arsed about it.
Who's side would you rather have someone like me on, yours or theres?

Im an old XWA pilot so i usually use that tactic.
Most of the time in DS you and your enemy are both aware of eachother which mean youll end up in a head to head approach.
I stick to my 8-approach from xwa/xvt, move your joystick like an 8 thats fliped over 90 degrees, a infinity sign.
Then i shot everytime i pass the center ofthe joystick. Usually i get em on the approach but otherwise i just go in for the dogfight when they pass.
I use a awing.

As this has tactics and tips for quite a few ships and situations now, mind making it sticky, tomo?

Man, I'm all trying to cut down on our dozen stickies and you want another?
This does have a lot of really great info in it. I'll see about adding it in the next few days.

I was just glossing over the the updated post and i noticed this:
>>First of all, Its best to know if your opponent is packing 3 IR2s or has gone for the big guns
One or the other? This to me sounds like a very dangerous assumption. Assume an oppressor pilot has both. At the least always assume they have 3 IR's, no question about it. If they don't their a real green rookie.
Trust me, i have no problem fitting in a 4780 max damage L10, a 3800 max damage L8, three IR missles, L8 engine, and L8 shields in one. Assume both. The oppressor truly a wonderful ship with some RE work. Ive outdamaged Krayts in mine.

He kinda describes the case where he doesn't know what his opponent has loaded as well... It kinda underlines the point that knowing your opponent brings an advantage ![]()
