What can i say... iwont even bother in tuning the ETA-2 until they fix the balance issues. Even without the unbalance... i will take any day of the week any of my Imperial ships, just for the look of them

Ilove my Imperial Guard Interceptor badly

Kope uses the Jedi Starfighter or the Belbullab-22 whatever look I prefer at that day (a shame that quite some weapons including the boltdriver are bugged in the second weaponslot on the Belbullab-22 and end up with a black box "default appearance", but that at least made it easier to find a name for it, I decided to just call it "Default Appearance" as it figured I should just use the name that is written on it already).

Chenir flies a krayt gunship and if I ever get some CSR to reset my quest I might aim for the vaksai (I did the "switch pilot squad" mistake :/), McGyver uses a heavy TIE.

And I have to say, I enjoy flying the heavy TIE most for some reason even if it lacks a bit in the damagedepartment compared to the other ships due to its single weaponslot, maybe because it's exactly the look of a ship that 99.9% of the imperial navy pilots fly at the point of the timeline that we are supposed to be in (more actually, as the only exception of TIE Fighter Pilots I see are the rare few testpilots with TIE Advanced prototypes, we aren't in the tie interceptor era yet if I recall right).

I really like my JSF. I also like the dunelizard which I have on another character, so it was nice to give my Imperial Pilot ship like it. The JSF is everything I wanted in the ships before it. The two gun mounts are my main reason for wanting the JSF. Normally in Imperial Ships, if you wanted 2 gun mounts, your only options were from sluggish bomber/assault craft.

If there was a Tie-Advanced with resonable mass, I would fly that.

Back in the game Tie-Fighter, my favorite ship to fly was the Tie-Interceptor, however in JTL the gun mounts firing inaccuracy with the invuln/lag/whatever-it-is bug, make it annoying to use.

I am quite happy that after doing torturous missions in under massed ships, that I now get a fun ship, with power, an Astromech, and Folding Wings to play with.

*note: If you want the JSF to look more Imperial, do what I did. Paint the Chassis Black with Dark Gray Trim, looks just like some experimental Tie-fighter

While piloted by Jedi up to thatpoint, the designs used in it were carried over in the creation of the TIE fighter series. To say that it is not Imeprial is ridiculous.

Now the General's fighter isn't Imperial, but I think we all know that already.

Ok, fine, they're Imperial.. it still suits me better to fly Iconic Imperial ships. IMHO a TIE fighter is more suited for me than the JSF. For me, my opinion, don't care what someone else is flying, don't care if someone thinks something is/isn't canon or what not.

Truly, the father of all TIE's and I have no problem with that at all... I just like the feeling of flying a TIE better. The marketting hype pulled me in for about a week and I flew the hell out of my JSF, it's a great little ship and I like it alot. I just prefer the original TIE's, the Heavy TIE (which I gave away! LOL!) or the Royal Guard TIE Intercepter.

(I'm not a member of the bash the JSF club at all.... )

Uh...sorry, they're not Imperial ships. They're Republic ships, actually.

I addressed that. The Republic became the Empire. Their equipement would have remained apart of the service. The same as the Clone troopers and every other peice of equipement in the arsenal. The Republic didn't become the Empire and then go out and scrap all their equipment.

Presumably they DID do some design improvements in the last 20 years. They are still Republic vessels, not Imperial ones. And actually, no they didn't scrap their gear but they DID redesign all of it. Notice that the clone trooper armor was evolving, capital ships were more 'Star Destroyer' like, etc.

If theyhad an 'Imperial control set' then you would not be able to fly them as a Neutral or Rebel pilot. Since there are other Clone War-era ships (ARC-170) that are Rebel-flyable, one can only assume that the code was written by some developer that had NEVER played JTL at all.

Yeah, because that Imperial Control set has worked so well in stopping Rebels from using Imperial equipment. /rolleyes Just look at the Lambda shuttle they used on ROTJ. Given the numbers tat the ARC-170 was used in, it would be totally possible that the Queen would have one sitting around. What is dumb about the whole ARC-170 thing is that it is give by the Queen of Naboo. Who happens to be protected by the RSF. Which while a neutral squadron is very Imperial in their ways and considered the Imperial National Guard.

Ok, genius: This is not the movies. Here, in SWG, I cannot use a TIE fighter as a Rebel Pilot. The reason given by SOE for this is that the controls, design philosophy, etc are different for Imp/Reb/Neutral ships. Ergo: if the Eta-2 is to be limited to Imperial players because of the historical background of that particular ship, then the ARC-170 should also be Imperial.

Besides, let's be real. The things have ancient control systems, the foam in the seat is probably 'dead,' and I imagine after that long a paint job is in order. They need refurbishing.I cannot think of a reason that I as a Master Shipwright could not design a set of controls similar to the Sorosuub luxury yacht...you know, a set of controls that any pilot could make use of?

They were newer and much better than those usedin the Z-95 or the YT-1300 for that matter. Age on ships means nothign in this time period. Most ships running around are old.

And I'll bet most of them have updated control systems.

I haven't seen the reasoning behind how these particular ships were set up. Does anybody know what the developers were thinking?

They were thinking you would be smart enough to figure out how to use Ctrl-O to change your keymaps to how you like to fly? I am pretty sure that's what they were thinking. /ponder

Uh, what? Man, stick to the topic, will you? I'm talking about the permissions / certifications / quest flags needed to operate the starfighters, ok?

And none of your comments address the central problem, which is WHY did SOE decide to make the deeds tradable but still limited by a quest flag?

I use my JSF spareingly, only on Vette runs with other people. I keep the turrets happy while my wingman takes it down. 3 missions in total only gotten hit 2 times by the vet. For everything else I use my firespray, I have it loaded out as a tank. 2 lvl 10 guns 4800 max dmg , 2800 shields, 107 rated engine with 79 YPR

I used to fly it all the time until I got the Royal Guard Tie Interceptor to actually deed. After sticking a 38K mass 101 speed, 83/83/81 YPR engine in it, it handles significantly better than the JSF.

Im still using my trusty Krayt and very happy doing so i have both the JSF and the Grievious ship and they are a very nice ship though to be honest i prefer the punch my Krayt offers because i dont do much pvp in space.

If i was pvping in space i imagine i would probably use the JSF though i dont intend doing that so my Krayt suits my pve needs and my mining needs.

Im currently working on making all the components for my YT-1300 and Y-8 so i imagine once i have them sorted out they will see more air time than my Krayt.

Uh .. ok I don't see the reason for all this back and forth bickering.

For one you don't have to make up any "controls set-up" bs to understand why privateers and rebels can't fly TIE's .. it's rather simple. The imperial navy doesn't supply rebels and nuetrals with thier equipment.

Did we ship a few loads of F-22's over to Saddam before the war?

Presumably The JSF is an antique, a left-over from a more civilized time.

Lord Vader apparently flew it for a time, and he gives it to you so the pilots under your command recognise that you are carrying out his orders. It makes no difference if it is a republic ship, an imperial ship etc. It is recognised as Vaders ship. It obviously does have imperial ties (no pun intended) in it's design .. see the forward windscreen? see the expandable ion collectors?

IMO I think your just arguing for the sake of arguing.

I prefer my KSE when I fly alone, but I use the Bella in a group. I'm told my butt is too big by my wingmates and they can't shoot bad guys in the KSE .

When the Republic became the Empire, the weapons of war did not immediatly change. Thus the JSF would in additon to being the last jedi fighter, be the first of the high end fighters for the Empire. Thus it is an Imperial ship...although a 20 year old Imperial ship.Did the Empire redisgn stuff inthe alst 20 years? Sure. It doesn't mean that the ships they had in their control 20 years ago no longer exist, or are no longer Imperial.

I never read the devs say anyhting about controls as being the issue, and if they did...its absurd. It is not an issue of controls. Any pilot of a Deci for example should be able to pilot a YT-1300. But the Empire doesn't fly YT-1300s. Rebels would see no reason to fly a TIE when they have the Xwing. Privateers would be in some serious trouble if they were flying the Deci. Vader would hunt down and kill a rebel flying his ship. I agree about the ARC-170. The devs really screwed that up. Clearly the devs designed 2 Imperial quests, then realized they had nothing for the Rebels so they gave the Rebels the ARC-170 to balance it all out.

Besides, let's be real. The things have ancient control systems, the foam in the seat is probably 'dead,' and I imagine after that long a paint job is in order. Wrong, If a bunch of pilots are tooling around in Z-95s, do you really think they have taken the time to update the controls? The JSF likely has new controls, but the ARC-170 likely does not. Again, the controls issue is stupid to agrue as the very thought that the devs used to it explain why we can't fly because of it is ridiculous and not supported by cannon.

I haven't seen the reasoning behind how these particular ships were set up. Does anybody know what the developers were thinking?

Like I said. While many reasons can be given why the 3 profesisons only have certs for such and such ships, the controls reason is flawed in so many ways.

And none of your comments address the central problem, which is WHY did SOE decide to make the deeds tradable but still limited by a quest flag?

That is a no brainer. I'll tell you why. I am an Imperial. I like the ship and wear it down to almost nothing. Another Imperial in my guild has it, but only joy rides in it. I offer him some creds for a trade and suddenly.....I have a new ship again, and he can zip around just fine as well. Both of us are Imperial. If a Rebel wants to go Imperial to get it so be it, the quest is the gate on the ship. But any Imperial that has done the quest can trade it around or sell it to another Imperial wanting a second one for a different config.

3 ships in my datapad, only really the fly one...

  1. My empty Y-8 which I flew a grand total of once and then stripped (just too lazy to redeed it)

  2. My JSF with an engine and reactor only (parked on Kash just in case I fly there in my guildies POB and he has to leave)

  3. My fully loaded, packed to within 200 of maximum mass, Opressor missile boat.
