Thread: The 'vette: a study in absurdity

Reading through this thread I think that people have lost the meaning of the "Master/Ace" Pilot title. When you become a master you gain the ability to control multi-player ships. At 4-4-4-4 you are a skilled enough pilot to solo the most difficult of enemies, except the corvette and it's entourage. It takes leadership skill and the ability to issue orders while fighting/piloting to take down the corvette, and that's what I believe was intended. It is this skill of leadership, that you demonstrate through leading a team against the corvette, that will be critical when piloting/commanding a multi-player ship.

You can outfit your new YT-1300/Nova/Decimator with the very best of equipment ... but if you can't command your crew, that nice mil+ credit ship will get blown up by even lowly tier 2 enemies. Remember, as the pilot, you can't issue droid commands or fire your cannons. All you can do is move the ship and fire missles/chaff. That means you need a good crew (or be able to train one) to make your investment worthwhile.

For everyone that can solo the corvette, congradulations. That is a difficult task for sure, and your skills as a pilot are obviously exemplary. But more difficult than soloing the corvette is commanding a multi-player ship and getting 4-5 other players to do what you want them to do without getting your investment ripped to shreds.

To those who can't find enough pilots to help ... you are doing the right thing ... post on these forums and send out planetary messages. If you can get a group of pilots, (10+) who are tier 3-3-3-3 and above you should be able to complete this mission with success. If you are on Ahazi and are making a run for the imperial corvette, /tell me in game and I can help in fielding a squadron (if you don't have one already).

Not true. I'm calling for an alternative method. And I did get master.

Some people have said 15 million xp is easy to get. Consider that to get the the vette mission, you first must kill 30 ties. I was unable to finish this mission until my third try, getting about 1/3 of the way through on attempts 1&2. I alsodowned many rebel pilots.

My total xp after finishing the mission on the third attempt: about 750k.

My successful mission took 2.5 hours because of spawn and spacing issuues.

But let's say you get an average of 7k per kill. Lets say it takes 2 minutes to down each level 4 or 5 fighter you're after.

To get the 15 million xp, you have to down at least 2,142 fighters. Assuming no time for travelor spawn time, that translates to 71.4 hours or nearly three days of continuous fighting (with no beverage service or bathroom breaks). I reject that this is an easy way out or watered down. And to suggest you're a better pilot because you've done the vette is tremendously misleading. For most (though not all)pilots, soloing the vette requires several deaths, doesn't it? Even in groups, the vette claims many lives.

How many World War II aces had their P51s shot down and respawned in London to fight the Germans again? Are you a better pilot? Or have you learned to down a specific enemy target that is increasingly easy because of some superior master equipment?

but there you are at the top now.. not assisting someone below you.. you've become what your complaining about.. ! maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick .. maybe you are helping now.. becoming that pilot that does assist the lower pilots..

You've got the wrong end of the stick. I've helped plenty of pilots and continue to do so. My issue was I'm going to do the vette. Is there anyone around to help me. Suggesting I should stop everything to help a low level pilot train up so that, eventually, he perhapscan help me with the vette seems like an odd and backward response to the problem of pilots who have spent hours working toward master, want totake on the vettebut find it difficult to find other able pilotswho can help them.

But I like that youassume the worst.

I might remind you that the issues I first raised were a dearth of pilots able to assist in the vette and the spawn rate. Difficulty only comes into the picture because of those two factors. You did read my post, right?

I died many a time whenI first went against it... butI got back on the sadle and tried again..

As did I. But just because I mastered, just because I've been successful in doing this mission doesn't mean I'm willing to ignore the problems facing other pilots.

If it takes you 2 minutes, even for an a-wing, you should not be a master pilot. Sorry.

Sorry to say you're wrong, but the rebels have the hardest task in taking down their vette.

Imps have it super easy since they have bomber strike which rocks against the vette, and don't let them tell you it doesn't because my alt character is an imp pilot and I know first hand.

My main is smugglers alliance freelance pilot and they are a close second when it comes to the ease with which the vette is dispatched. It has nothing to do with the amount of skill you have it all comes down to the inherent advantages of the profession.

The key is that you don't get aggro until you hit one of the imperial ships, and that you can use mark I space bombs. If you have just one friend and you both have mark I space bombs you can each take out a shield in two passes. Then you can each take a shot at the engine, and once you take that out you have all the time in the world to kill it even if you die as it won't hyper out after you get the engines. From there you can die all you want and just pick away at it, you just have to make sure you are both in the sector before the final shot is taken.

Of course that is the really easy way to do it which is not much fun, but if your only concern is getting master and you really don't care about the content then that's the way to go for you.

I just "susurro'd" (look at me, I'm trendsetting!) the vette as a 4444 vortex pilot.

And I'm not an "UB3R 1337 D00D."

Firstly I'll come back to my point that do the goverment give you a driving licence because you've logged so many plus hours, regardless that youfailed the test 6 times? No they don't... why should it be anydifferent here.I could gain that much xp within5 days no problem and I fly and xwing that doesn't have any equipment above lv 8 on it,includingfood and toilet breaks.

I'm not saying that it wouldn't take timeand effortbut again this is not about how good you are at grinding it about over coming challanges.

You seem to think that me claiming I'm better is absurd? From your original post you seem to think that your the bench mark for pilots and anyone that claims therebetter is justusing superior equipment ?? Is there just a chance that some or even alot of the pilots on these boards are better skilled than yourself? I'm not even talking about myself, some of the pilots on here have good advice that you refuse to accept?

As for dieing ? No I and alot of other pilotsdon't die doing the vette, infact except for in deep space pvp I haven't died in pve for 3 months, thata going off the point. Many pilots who no what there doing can do the vette with dieing or even taking a hit if your good enough. I saw pilots doing this when I first went against the vette and I learnt the tricks and hopefully so will you.I don't use anything in my xwing that you can't use a 4444 so no its not master equipment either, as another poster stated master doesn't give you many more options than you have with 4444.

Suggesting I should stop everything to help a low level pilot train up so that, eventually, he perhapscan help me with the vette seems like an odd and backward response to the problem of pilots who have spent hours working toward master, want totake on the vettebut find it difficult to find other able pilotswho can help them.

Again you show impatiants to getting master any pilot that above 3333 is capable of assisting you with vette. Simply doing lv 4 duty missions where instead you disable a target and let you noob finish of the targets will give him quick xp a lv up. You can get any new pilot up to 3333 within a day, trust me I've done it with many of my guild mates. What I'm urging you to do is to help create a community of pilots that will be there on your server to help others and yourself. This maybe a slight backwards step for yourself but will obviously help the pilots below you greatly.

As did I. But just because I mastered, just because I've been successful in doing this mission doesn't mean I'm willing to ignore the problems facing other pilots.

The problem is not that the vette is to hard to solo, because you can see it on the boards that many claim its to easy. Again your using yourself as a bench mark of skill which doesn't fit most pilots. Reading this post the problem that pilots are agreeing with you about is that fact theres no one to help less skilled pilots ( I don't mean that insultly) beat the vette, a problem I'm trying to resolve in my above response.

The fact is the vette is not to hard and does not need looking into, the point is there is no one to help and your don't like the fact you need the help. You want to either make it easier so you can solo it or side track it completely. I say help build up your pilot community on the server, if your that passionate about other pilots then spend your time building good foundations for them on your server, instead of posting negativity towards to vette on here.

It takes me that long, or longer. 40-60 shots at least. Its not because I'm a bad pilot, I've been playing space sims since the original X-Wing (10+ yrs ago). Its because I don't have uber guns. I have two 1700-2800dmg blasters on my X-Wing. I'm constantly hitting my opponents, it just takes a lot of hits to take down tier 5 enemies.

Comparing the driving test we take to the vette is absurd. Mainly due to the fact the drivers test is insanely easy. The vette run is harder then the drivers test. I wish taking the Vette were as easy as the drivers test, I'd solo it all day.

The whole point is there should be an equally time consuming alternative to taking on the vette for players who can not get the group together. I'm sure there are quite a few players who schedule does not allow them to get a group together and take on the vette. The whole point of SWG since the beginning has made it possible for all players to reach the same goal. Master Pilot isn't exempt from this. I am not quite sure why there is so much opposition to this. Is it because you killed the Vette and you guys think everyone else should go through the pain and anguish you went through?

I know a pilot who has taken down the 'vette at 3-3-3-3 as an Imperial, Privateer, and Rebel.
"Superior Equipment" plays little to no part in it, not at that level. Sorry that doesn't wash.

Just had to point that out; you are trying to take away from the skill and precision that some people have by suggesting their L33T L00T is the only reason that they get it done.

Actually, no. It is because the majority here does not see it as pain and anguish. We saw, and see it as a very welcomechallenge to overcome. For us, it was fun, it was the challenge for the reward. If anything we want others to feel the same elation we felt when we finally figured it out and beat it.

How many times did it take you to kill your first NS Elder? Finish the ground game vette the first time? How often did you die?

I am not sure why people expect to be able to do this easily the first time around, if everything in the game is like that, it will get boring real quick.

Didn't we just have a thread from you where you were all flustered and people gave you advice and you went and did the mission and were all happy? Now this?

You need to step back and stop getting so emotional about this stuff. Your "demands" are really starting to come off as whining and little more.

Fact is that PLENTY of people have mastered ALL of the pilot squads. It's simply NOT THAT TOUGH!

I'd prefer that this not be added to pilot issues at all, as frustration at one's inability to complete missions without throwing a hissey-fit isn't really an issue.

Grip on

I dont think some people think we should be able to do it on the first time around but some people find it disheartning to do 10 to 15 time and never get anywhere with it. I have to agree with some of you with the vette mission and some of you i dont agree with. To me the vette is hard if i didnt have a group i dont think i would have ever mastered it. Those people that say hey i was able to ace it by myself that GREAT but not everyone has the advantage you have in being able to do that. The crying game that every one does about it being to easy and those that say its to hard both need to zip it. lol ziiippp it.That is a preemptive zip it lol. The game is designed the way it is deal with it.

If we make the vette any easier it would be a shame and if we make it any harder it would be a shame to. In time all good things come to those who wait and work at it. Those who think every thing is just so easy Zip it. We know its easy for you so give some of us some tips to help usplayers that are not as good as youdo better, To make the game better for everyone else. As everyone likes to say it is a multi player gameor agroup game for the most part. Let act like a group and help each other.

When the Admiral gives you the mission, he does in fact "suggest you assemble a team".
