I agree in part. It is true that JTL is good for letting the men separate from the boys, but it also gives way too much emphasis on the element of surprise, leaving an otherwise very talented pilot who may be otherwise occupied and/or loading in to a sector at the mercy of a newb who knows enough to put Mark III protons on his x-wing and camp in the right places. If you want an environment where skill will truly prevail, you need to makeit sothat ace pilots can survive the initial lucky strike and use their talents to recover positional advantage and exact revenge.

pve should get tweaked. the only problems is have with the damage system are

1) its just inconsistent, and flying around in cirlces killing a tie doesn't seem very realistic and
2) MP ships, as stated many times before, need more protection. I've never flown one, but i can imagine how difficult flying a big slow ships is when you can only take 3 hits, but what they need is armor, not making the whole system like pve

Got that right, especially with the 12 ship spawns the last missions stick you with.

Why they didn't make MP ships stronger is beyond me. Ep IV had the Falcon filying in a straight line and those TIEs could barely scratch her. Our MP ships should at least come close to that.

You are invulnerable for some time upon loading in, so loadkills are not happening very often unless you have a crappy connection.

And surprise? You get a "ping" noise if you get targetted, and you have keys to check if an enemy players is within 3Km of you. Anyone who is surprised in space deserves getting killed without a chance - he failed at the most crucial task of a pvp pilot, which is paying attention to space. Being able to keep attention to threats while dealing with NPCs is part of what makes space pvp a skill-based game.

I agree with everything the original poster said. And yes, some droid programs need to be fixed... like weapon overload 3 lol. Yeah, multiplayer ships need some more lasting power in pvp.

Point to pvp... There is no point. You just do it for fun, as with any game. lol. Yes I'm just being difficult haha.

I /disagree.

I believe that PvP damage should be nerfed by around 75-90% or so. And I say this as somebody who's flown PvP and enjoyed it. I'm certainly not the best pilot, but I think I could make the all-star team if I was on the ball for tryouts.

It *should* be close in feel to the PvE game, because that's what everybody practices flying. If it takes us 10 shots to take out a random NPC, it should take us 10 shots to take out a PC. (more or less depending on the guy's shields and armor of course) One game should be like the other... either low shot kills or high shot kills across the board.

Also, go back and watch the movies. All the random foobs get blown up with a shot, while the heroes get zorched a little bit and keep on flying. If anything, PvP should last longer than PvE by this criteria... to get more of the Star Wars Space Herofeel.

Oneshot kills mess up the ratio of downtime to playtime... the fight lasts less time than the drive back to do it over again. I don't mind fair kills in space, but it gets boring waiting on the flight back for me or the other guy all the time.

Oneshots also remove all but a small handful of ships from the PvP game altogether. Obviously, somebody with a thrown together ship should be blasted for his ignorance, but there is no way at all to tweak most of the chassis to be competitive or even in the game-- even playing to their strengths. There's no point in even trying to escort a Bwing or POB, because no matter what shields it has, it gets blown up on the first tap, and escort can't do much to be not too late. Sure, Bwiings and POB's should be at a steep disadvantage, but they should be able to last long enough for squadronmates to help out.

I don't think we can honestly complain about the lack of people flying PvP/Overt and at the same time want to keep PvP as a lightning engagement. If it doesn't last long enough for new PvP'ers to learn and have fun, they will not come back to DS to play with us. Why should they? We'll just blow them up again in 2s, after they spent two minutes reoverloading, and two or three flying back to the DS station. They get a couple seconds of play for minutes of downtime and travel!

Everytime I read these kind of threads I see 2 issues muddled into one. The one-shot kill PvP and the problem that so few people PvP.

Get a d**n killboard going on a website, listing Player name, PvE kills, PvP kills and some other stats (I'm very curious about my gun hit/miss ratio). Do the same for the ground game. Lots of people will be going PvP to get their char to the number one spot.

Then we can leave the "one-shot" system as it is now because it is the most fun and there is incentive for people to tough it out and learn to cope with it. If I need to land 10 to 20 shots for a PvP kill in space I'll be exhausted afterwinning/losing two dogfights.

This is what I've come to believe. I really like the summary of "uptime::downtime." That's a big reason I don't PvP anymore. I'm on for maybe an hour a day. Five minutes is a BIG chunk out of my play time. In truth, I've lost my edge over the last few months. With PvP being so deadly and skill oriented, I just don't have the time to keep up my skills properly. With it being so fast and deadly, it's no longer worth my time. If we could reload in Deep Space and go straight back into the fight, I might just PvP again and pick up that edge. If PvP is to be no penalty, it must be absolutely no penalty, in decay, time, and wounds. I'd be far more likely to PvP if I could reload and go back into the fray. (Interestingly, this would make droid interfact speed matter much more, as I'd have far less time to actually load my programs before I hit combat. What strategic decision do I want to make in 60-90 seconds?)

If you're a crappy pilot, don't pvp. Truth is, you'd never kill people if you had 75% damage reduction, with shield shunt and everything a wings and interceptors would be invincible. Hone your skill and know your stuff before making suggestions that have little merit, you button masher.

Anyone who believes that he or she will ever manage to kill an A-Wing or other small nimble fighter one on one if you need 10 shots to kill it has, frankyl, no clue about pvp. Even with the - falsely - claimed one shot kill system I once spent 10 minutes dogfighting a single a-wing, shunt cap to shield making the fight last so long. I have seen single A-wings last 2 minutes against half a dozen TIE advanceds as well. With less damage smaller fighters simply become unkillable.

Try to hit a A-Wing with a decent pilot before you cry and whine for damage reduction. Please, try it. But choose a capable pvp pilot as a target, who knows how to evade.

Then, after a few bouts, come back and tell me how we need damage reduction.

Amen.

They're expecting us to fly in predictable patterns doing slow and smooth turns to target them... yeah right.

If you die in two hits in PvP you have some issue....

  • You didn't take the time to save up components and get them Re'ed.

  • You weren't paying attention while overt.

I'm sick of hearing it as well. It gets old people. Yeah, yeah, sure, sure.... JTL PvP is broken.. nope! Not really... Droid Programs are broken.
