Well Janu, I appreciate that but I was aiming the initial thread at newer pilots who wanted to learn effectively. Not the whiners. One thing I have learned is that most whiners are just that...they don't change, so I just posted what I thought without considering them.

Nice to see your oppinions too.

I appreciate that the other two pilot professions teach you things, but I was also going from a low mass point of view. I mean, I acknowledge and fully respect Freelance pilots and Rebel Pilots (Oppy pilots too) who have to work out how to set up their Krayts and B-wings etc. There is so much mass and such a diversity in what you can do with those ships due to their extra parts that for a pilot like me, I'd find it a real challenge to set one up and to utilize all of that mass to it's full potential.

I have to disagree with people saying rebel pilot tree doesn't help learn management. Ok sure rebels get a nice mass ship right off the bat, but how in the hell are you going to come close to filling it up with lvl 1-3 parts? then we get the (standard) x-wing. With three guns on this ship, 99k mass, and newly unlocked nice gear you learn right away it isn't just popping all the best stuff in. I think the main reason you run into this cry about mass not being enough is because there are a lot of kids that play this game. I mean lets be serious to outfit a ship theres a lot of things that need to be considered and not all kids are going to be willing to do the work.

As for the heavy x-wing being too easy I say PFFFT to you. The xwing chassis hastwo HUGE disadvantages in my opinion...a VERY wide spread on its guns making it more difficult to hit those small ships in pvp and its size makes it easy to hit. I take great pride in the fact that the heavy x-wing I created can go turn for turn or outmatch the JSF's or Awings(duel before anyone comments) I've fought.

Now I still consider myself a new pilot I've only been at this game a total of about a month. A lot of this time has been spent in space. One thing I'm finding though after hitting ace is theres nothing....nothing at all to drive people to pvp besides a person being competitive. Even then thats not enough because you can only sit in deepspace for so long before getting bored. Sure there is drive to continue to space...money...parts...loot...but really those are drives to go and do horribly boring tasks in PVE. What we really need is something to promote PVP.

On my server after I hit ace I had no delusions...I had hoped to hop into deepspace and see massive PVP battles going on, but realisticly I knew if anything it would probably be a handful of people. Boy was I disappointed...I have run into 1 friendly fighter and 2 enemies after about 10 trips to deepspace. Both enemies were just coming for the free repairs that DS gives....Theres only so many times you can kill that destroyer before it just gets boring. I'm really dying for some pvp but its just not happening...

Personnaly i normally use a 50-65K mass chassis and can outfly/outgun people in JSF's. So you *REALLY* don't want to see me in a 90K mass JSF.

That's why Tomo is such a deadly pilot in an Actis. He used to be a TIE Interceptor/Advanced pilot. Putting people like him, you, and Leaph in Actises is about the only thing that'll send me scrambling for mine anymore.

And just imagine if Derker were still on my wing in an Eta-2, instead of our old Adv/Int combo.

Really, learning to PVP with 50-65K mass is a whole nother world, one that will still lend you an advantage in PVP today. It's not a bad idea to mess around with lower-mass chassis still, if only to learn what's truly important to gain an edge over your opponents.

As I've said before - if they added 20k mass to the Advanced to bring it in line with the Dunelizard I'd fly that.

But screw the naysayers - the JSF is the best fighter platform out there, and I'm going to use it as long as it remains that way.

The way I look at it, the JSF is a gift to those who flew the 65k ships. The fact that everyone and their mother's uncle thrice removed can get them too is just a horrible downside.

If it was up to me. I would put Interceptor in Tier 4. Tie Advanced and A-wing in Master and up all their masses.
Remove mass on X-wing and make it faster and more agile.

IMO this would bring alot more Starwars feel to space. Too many ships not in episodes4-6 flying around.
Heavy Z-95's and Tie Fighters was a brilliant addition. Would have given them higher requirements.

It's a strike fighter, pure and simple - best equatable to the F-14. Heavy firepower capacity, decent maneuverability, but either is a flying coffin in a dogfight with a true interceptor airframe.

The only reason Luke flew one was because he was operating with a /godmode cheat as a result of being a pivotal and undisposable character. Note a lot of people who flew with him died quickly and violently as a result of redshirtitis. He could've flown a goddamned barge with a jerry-rigged CDEF as a main weapon and survived head-on engagements with ISDs.

I wouldnt consider wedge a major character (only having about 5 mins screen time in total) and he flies and x-wing, and doesnt die.

P.s and he's cool.

Wedge has a natural immunity to redshirtitis too. It'd be interesting to see how many Rogue Squadron pilots actually MADE it to old age.

Depends on which source you quote. The radio drama calls the X-wing an outdated fighter, but every other major source calls it a marvel--a fairly modern craft the Rebels only had because of the defection of the Incom team which outclassed the Seinar fighters.

Another thing that I found has really helped me learn to be a better pilot was picking up shipwright as well.

Knowing how your ship components fit together and work as well as the benefit of knowing not only how to effectively RE but being able to do it yourself has helped my general piloting skills immensely.

When I think back to how I was piloting in my first squad (I'm just starting my 5th) it makes me smile:

Blindly grabbing the largest mass fighter available, thinking that bigger guns and shields would mean greater survival...

Not using boosters 'cos they took up too much mass...

Struggling along without droid commands...

Thinking that a weapon with higher damage and a refire rate of .45 was better than a lower damage one with refire .33...

I'm amazed I ever mastered.

Now, as a Master Shipwright as well, I feel like my eyes have been opened more. My whole way of loading out a ship has changed. Before I'd stick in the biggest guns I had first. Now it's the engine first. It's just so different.

Personally I view the JSF as a way for me to improve my chances of being able to solo a lot of things. As soon as I grab all 9 Aces, it's going away and I'm bringing out the Heavy X-wing, and having a bash at an A-wing.

I'd also actually be fine if they took out the third weapon on the X-wing. It just feels wrong to have it there.

And if they made the JSF similar to the Vaksai I wouldn't care either. 1 weapon port would be fine with me on a ship that agile and hard to hit.
