One tactic you might want to consider is, if you can't avoid the local spawns by flying around them, if you're between escort missions, in-system jumps are a handy way of losing unwanted agro, and they won't kill your mission unless you're escorting something at the moment.

They can also give you a chance to repair yourself if you're damaged and can hit the local nuetral space station.

This I had never thought of...in system jumps! As I stated earlier I made the first tier 3 mission finally BUT....I reloaded from an 1800 dmg blaster to a looted Ion 2800 dmg, .350 speed .6+ vs shields and armor a very nice weapon indeed. I had to drop my front armor, boosters, and went from 950 rear armor to 800. not a bad trade considering it's only until I can train one more box. I get the next mission which is more of the same in Endor again and whadya know...It's right next to a tier 4 spawn again and when I get close 6 enemies spawn from my mission and it's 12 on one again...6 are tier 4's and I'm dead in a minute or two seeing the tier 4's respawn almost instantly and I'm on the ground pissed offf and repairing all my nice parts which just lost a bunch of hitpoints for the 4th time in 2 days....this simply isn't fun. I play this game for fun not to get stressed out and feel like I got slighted by moronic game designers. I'm not a kid, Im well over 30 years old and just can't seem to understand why they made things this way. Now I don't know what to do....keep wasting my good looted parts by dying like a fool to 12+ enemies at a time or just quit SS altogether and go master Inquisition again and be even morwe pissed I'm doing the same missions for a 2nd time just for a stupid badge

You dont need any xp for tier 3 boxes so getting xp wont help.

But for me it always worked like that - I did the missions from the tier 2 trainer and when I got to the tier 3 trainer he gave me training before I got a mission from him. Thats what I meant and though Im pretty sure about that I may be wrong.

I tried this at the weekend. I did all the Tier 2 missions so I was 2222, I then did missions from the Yavin space station until I had 200,000 xp and tried to get some training........but he wouldn't train me He would just give me the first Tier 3 mission.

Ok, my first post.

I feel the pain. Oh man is it tough. Had several of my guild mates tell me to stop and go for the Inquisition as it would save me time and money. No, Im too stubborn to let them be right. I know Im not good enough to finish solo, Im just lucky enough to have some mates that are already master pilots with Jedi starfighters to help blast the random tier 4 fighters. Had my own personal battle of Endor this weekend to finish my first tier 3 mission. Anyone who flew it knows which one Im talking about.

The patrol wp mission and on the last one, meet up with 6 inteceptors and have a massive dog fight with awings, xwings, and rebel gunboat. Had a mate with me in his starfighter, as we approached the wp, a spawn of 4 tier 4 xwings were already slicing through my inteceptors. Once we get into the thick of it with them, their reinforcements arrive. Yes, the most stressful battle I have been in, but turned out to be the most rewarding in terms of enjoyment.

It is much better to fly with a wingman, at least for me.

I don't think you ought to quit SS, soloing it will make you a better pilot even if it takes forever to learn. I'm not saying you have to solo (for you people who are going to jump on me saying it's a group game) But sticking with it and soloing does help you grow into a better pilot. Don't knock the heavy tie suggestions either. I soloed Storm without repeating a single mission using a heavy tie and only crafted components and never once using bomber strike, so it can be done.

One thing I don't see mention of, is what shield you are running, and if you are using CtSS. If you can cram that on yourflight computerit will keep you alive when you get jumped by everyone and their dog.

And two things I can't stress enough:

1. There's no shame is disabling an enemy that doesn't "have" to be killed to complete a mission.

2. Never get so focused on the guy you are killing that you let your back shields get down below about 25%. If it gets that low you need to bail out of your current fight, CtSS if you can, and move on to a new target. I've had much success when going against 6-12 opponents by disabling or trying to disablewhomever is in front of me and spining out of that fight before someone gets on my tail. You eventually end up with a field of ships dead in the water that you can then go clean up.

That being said, I have no idea what developer decided that 2 hour missions full of crazy long escorts would be fun. Storm is soloable, but it is not what I personally would call fun.

On wanderhome Heavy Ties are 350k. On Eclipse theyre a million credits...a complete rip off if you ask me. My alt is a budding shipwright and i just bought about 40 harvesters and I can't afford one and I can't find a single person who wants to fly on Eclipse so it's starting to look like I'm gonna have to drop SS. I hate giving up.

Hmmm...if you have ROTW you could do the first space mining quests to get setup for mining, and then mine the space resources required for a heavy Tie. I know as a SW I only charge about 100k if the person provides the space resources.Perhaps there's someone onyour server willing to go that route? Or you could wait til you've got your alt mastered? I'd hold offon miningtil Pub 24 thoughsince they will be doubling the speed you can mine in space. Unless, of course, you really like playing a 3-d version of asteroids.

That being said you really don't get the benefit of the heavy tie until you can use equipment too heavy for anything else you are certed in.So if you aren't to that point yet, the ship doesn't matter so much.

I thought I just had to but a mining laser and a cargo hold and go mine. What quests from ROTW? Can I use any ship to mine? What resources do I need?

On Infinity I bought my Heavy Tie for 200k. It took him about 2.5 weeks to get the resources together and since it took so long he threw in the chassis blueprints for the Tie Advanced, Tie Opressor and Tie Agressor for free. Now thats good service

For anyone on Infinity that is interested the name of the shipwright I got it from is Zeuz.

Yeah but I think what he's saying is you can build up enough XP, doing duty missions or space quests etc, until you have enough to train your first Tier 3 skill box before you do the first Tier 3 mission.

OK, just finished 2222, was sent to another trainer (no training from the last trainer) instead of taking the mission went and filled my xp.. I was taking 3222 so I could use my imperial guard interceptor. I went back to all three trainers and all they would give me is the escort, recapture, escort, recapture mission. No training for t3 at all even though I had the xp...

Also, when you refer to the heavy tie do you mean the tie/in?

first of all, the royal guard interceptor is a tier4 ship, so getting tier3 for it was pointless. also, pilot isn't like other professions. just because you have the xp doesn't mean the trainer will train you. it all depends on what missions you have done. the "heavy tie" that everyone is referring to is actually a Tie Fighter (Heavy Variant) that only master shipwrights can make and usually cost around 300k.

According to the progression tie interceptor is t3 cert and is not mentioned in t4... Of course I am going by my and several others memory and don't have the game in front of me, either way I know tie int. is a t3 cert... the schem is called "Heavy Tie?" I'm not a crafter but I would like to know exactly what I am looking for.
