Thread: Are we being forced out of space?
Well i have to say im in 2 minds on this topic, running two accounts i have a freelance pilot with a cl of 80 and a rebel pliot cl1 know they are prob the wrong way around, but thats the way it worked out and maybe one day i'll switch it around who knows.
Yes there has always been a bit of a tie in between the ground game and JTL (i.e completeing jabba's to get freelance teir 3 etc although it was never and issue with my tat based rebel pilot.) but under the old system it really wasn't a problem was it, nice armour a good buff and a guildie or buddie laying the smack down for you (well thats how my friend got his access to jabba's palace when he started his new toon ;-) )
But some of the new ROTW stuff is to much even for a lvl 80 the grevious mission for instance, last i heard anything other than a few master defender jedis and forget it, the arc you have to be combatant to receive the mission and i the JSF NS stronghold hell i hated that place under the old system. oh like my cl 1 is gonna make it to the city hall combatant or any where near the NS stronghold,
so for those of you out there who are for mostly pilots and not ground ppl (which i think is a choice we should all be free to make, this game to me was based on the freedom to do what you want in the galalxy) are once again being punished for not playing the game as the combat lovers would like.
and this is all part of a bigger problem with the CL levels no longer can you really split your skills up and be one combat and one crafting, if you gonna be combat you have to go the whole way to get the health and the CL you need to survive. and now it seems pilots are being pushed the same way, yeah you can fly and be good in space and follow what path you like on the ground, BUT YOU WILL BE COMBAT IF YOU WANT THE GOOD STUFF. So says the Emporer of the SOE republic
Same thing with the call of the siren missions, billed as a pilot mission, i not done any flying for that yet, and my cl1 couldn't even complete the 1st task.
But on the otherside of the argument i like the idea of being able to board the capital ships and yeah it is a bit more starwarsy hell its the opening screens that mesmorised a generation or 3. If done right maybe it wont be to hard on the none combats as long as yyou got tough friends. I know from my guild experiance they will always help me out with the groud stuff cause i help out with the space stuff (i consider my self a good pilot, not one of the greatest i have seen, but good 4444 freelance and 4444 reb not done the master mainly through lazyness andnot that much incentive given the equipment mypilots have already) so i know if done like the corvette missions where there is a safe area for the low CL's to hang around and wait for the higher levels to clear the way it could work and be fun for all parties or even have the pilot drop the high levels off for the boarding party and then cover them from incoming fighters delievering reinforcements or something till the capitol ship is taken over and its safe for them to be boarded.
See i do agree that there is a need for interactionin the game it is a massive mutiplayer game after all, i just feel that there is an over all push in all parts of the game to have us all doing endless grinding of one kind or another, and this is coming at the expence of the unbeleiveable freedom that firstcapiviated meto this universe that has to be honest all but taken over my life lol
So yes i am all for interaction but i think there needs to be alot of thought going in to it so as not to push us all in tosomesortofset templatejust tosurvive

Yeah, far be it from me to defend the devs, but I think things are okay here. They've made the new ships tradable. So if you're a crafter, you don't have much physical muscle, but you do have financial muscle.
...
Except they haven't. Only the Griveous fighter is tradable.
Not strictly true - the ARC and JSF are tradeable... but unusueable without doing the quest ( which instantly pushes ALL non-combatants out of doing the quest)
So get some combatants in your guild to help you out. I've taken CL10 guys through those quests, so I know it's doable.
As its already been said by some, if your non-combat then get a group together. Thats the whole point of the CU is to promote grouping, why would you think they'd continue to add in solo content only?
And one thing about the starmap quest in the Nightspider Cave...... you can easily burst run down there and "use" the corpse probably even getting hit at all. I did, then afterwards I somehow managed to run around in circles for a while and lose all aggro I'd gotten on the way down. I sat down, waited 10 mins for my burst run to recharge, and burst ran out of the cave. Got hit about 3 times going out of the cave, but I still made it out with well over half myHealth left. This was with a level 80 Master Ranger/Master Pikeman, Ranger of course not helping at all because you get pathetic defense from it. If your non-combat, get in a group with someone thats level 80, both burst run and have them go first so they draw aggro. Get down there, use the corpse, and either die or try to lose aggro and let your burst recharge. Even if you do draw aggro, since the Nightsisters are only melee, they'll get at most 1 hit on you before your out of range, and since your grouped with a level 80 it won't be a 1 hit incap.
I'm really looking forward to having some nice group action for the cap ships, ground and space combat. Although the mobs that you have to fight better only be level 80-85 elite, or else the melee characters get screwed because it all comes down to not getting hit by rooting or using avoid incap (which is a stupid ability, BTW, whoever's idea it was to add that into the game needs to be examined for brain damage).

I am noticing a rather disturbing trend with space content recently. It seems that the more and more we move away from the release of JTL, the more they are mixing ground and space. Don't get me wrong, I like that they are doing this, but I fear that soon hybrid and non-combat characters may have their advancement cut off. In RotW, we saw ground requirements to get some of the new ships. However most of those requirements were easy, so having limited combat skills (sometimes having no combat skills at all) wasn't that much of a problem. The starmap quest for Nym was a bit of a different story. I'm still stuck at the Nightspider part. My partner and I just don't have the survivability to get through there. But that's OK, too, since I don't expect to be able to do everything.
However, now we're hearing about being able to board and take over capital ships. Which sounds to me like a combining of the two versions of the Vette, ground and space. Is this the trend we're likely to see in the future? Are we going to be expected to either have combat skills or pray that our friends who have them let us tag along in order to enjoy the new space content? One of the things I really liked about space was that it didn't matter what you were on the ground. You were a pilot in space, and as a Dancer I had just as much ability to fight off enemies as a Jedi.
I know that the details aren't even close to finalized yet, but this is worrying me. I enjoy my non-combat skills, but space is the main part of my game. I don't want to miss out on most of the new expansion because I am not much of a fighter on the ground. Is this a concern for anyone else?
If anything it seems just the opposite. They are forcing ground playing into space. I'm excited about it. But I bet some of the non-twitch players are not.
Grouping is always an option though.
You keep saying that. Yes, I agree, it is an option, but that doesn't really help. In case you have forgotten, group sizes are limited now. 8 people, that's it. Who has room to spare for a tag-along who will add nothing to the battle? And what kind of horrible friend would I be to ask them to raise their chances of dying because I want to see something?
I have said it several times now, I agree that there should be some mixed content. But why is it the focus of a "space based" expansion? That isn't space, it's just ground combat with a space backdrop. And what do those of us who aren't combat characters get? That's my concern. Why is it that an expansion that is supposed to expand my favorite part of the game, seem to actually do nothing at all for it?

people who you will help in other ways outside the battle, like my friends/guildies do for my armorsmith. you wouldn't be a horrible friend at all, merely exchanging one favor for something else your good at.

because its fun and it gives the game in general more depth, i guess. what should they give you who aren't combat characters? what would you like?
- EDIT - Preferably NOT escort missions. Those things are quite possably the most boring thing to do in space.

Who are thefamous pilot in the movies? Han Solo? Boba? Name the character and you'll see they do a LOT of action outside of space. Nobody is forcing you out of anything. You can buy all kinds of ships, gear, and do all kinds of quests and never really leave space for action. However, some content and equipment can be gained through means other than leaning on cannons, meaning more complete players can access a wider variety of experiences and rewards. That makes perfect sense. If you don't want to squish bugs, then hire someone to do your dirty work. There are plenty of non-JTL players out there eager for new content that I'm sure can be had for the right price.
I DO NOT MIND THE MIXED CONTENT. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHY WE DON'T SEEM TO BE GETTING ANY NON-MIXED CONTENT THAT DOESN'T INVOLVE ESCORTS.
Get it yet?
What did people who only do space get with RotW? A bunch of escorts for the new ships, a bunch of mixed content, space mining, and a new place to run duty missions from. Of those, only space mining could really be called new content for space. And I'm very happy with it. I don't mind that space content is limited, as it was a ground-based expansion. However, the new expansion has been refered to as being space-central, but it doesn't seem that way to me. It seems like another ground expansion that requires you to go into space to get to that content. The only thing it seems that we'll be allowed to do if we're not ground warriors too is to ferry people to the Vette and play escort duty with it. That isn't space content.
