My rules:
- I will not help you grind tier 4 xp.
- I will not help you with tier 1 or tier 2 missions unless you have tried them yourself already.
- I will not help you with the 30 kessel kills for the first ace mission (unless you find the vette in system already, in which case I'll come disable the vette and help finish out your last kills so you can go get the vette mission, and come back and blow it up)
I will not help you look for the vette, call me when it's there
Other than that I'll pretty much help with any mission I can as an Imperial Ace. I'm sure there are people like me on any server, just gotta find them. Ask around, they're generally fairly well known, as they have dozens of people they've helped ace.
Couldn't agree with you more mate.
Except for my guild mates that exactly how I do things.
Very nice rules to live by I think
I do work with a few of the group that totaly kill #4 (run squads that help on the vette master mission). Its not that I disagree with that rule, you have a great point. I just tend not to follow that myself....

I help on the vette no problem, I just refuse to hang around in kessel killing the paltry spawns there when I could be in deep space making 10x the loot and FP in the same amount of time. Vettes are visible for well over 5k, they're not really going to find it any faster with me there or not. Once they find it I don't run the squad that takes out the vette, I AM the squad that takes out the vette
What alot of people have been doing lately on my server at least is getting into a group and killing a corvette as a gunner on a decimator out in deep space. I answered a call for help one night from a fellow imperial ace and killed a vette with it's fighter escort to see the mission completed message fly up on my screen from this griefer DJK I can't stand. That was officially the last time I join a group with a decimator I didn't see boarding :/
if this is the corsec gunboat then i have a tip you can try, but you better know how to fly if you want to pull this off (which judging by your post i bet you do not). you can fly insde a ye-4 gunship, match speed, and mimic its manuvers. this lets you pound on it while it cant shoot at you. a cheap tactic, but if you cant figure out any other way, it works.

That's my credo really in a nutshell. I don't tow people up the tiers - the absolute worst thing you can say to me after I help you finish a mission is "hey, could you help me on my next one" in lieu of thanks.

To clarify a couple of points: Ok. I wasn't asking for sympathy. I justmeant that I saw no one sympathetic to my point of view and acknowledged that.
AndI do, as I say, sincerely appreciate the feedback.
Now, to make sure I understand, you TomoRainer, these missions are so horribly difficultbecause we get a "sense of realaccomplishment" when
1) We develop supernatural piloting abilities
or
2) We get lucky and somehow destroy the thing
This missontakes, from loading screens to the point where I'm vaporized, about 30 minutes to fly. Minimum, I've spent four hours on this mission.
If I want a sense of accomplishment, I'll go take out the trash. I'm here to have fun. This is a roadblock. Personally, I think its just anotherartificial constraint placed on players like the now vanished 10-minute shuttle wait.
Here's the point: If you've got the XP you should make pilot.
And this should be changed.
Ijust want to hang out in the yt1300 with my friends. That's the whole reason I'm mastering pilot. I'm not interested in pvp.
There are a few issues I would like to point out.
Although practice makes you better at it, xp does not. I can sit in one spot holding a trigger to get the xp. The benefit of missions is that it is more dynamic and helps you actually increase your skills if they are done appropriately. When they are actually done appropriately, you will learn how the different ships handle, learn how to fly with others and enjoy it.
If I had it to do over again, I would have done more missions rather than grinding out the xp for tier 4. I enjoyed the rebel missions much more, because I actually paid attention to the story and did the missions. Honestly, I just grinded Imperial ... so it was not as much fun.
Finally, there is no such thing as luck ... It is your abilities that actually do improve...and the quality of your equipment does as well.

What if, however, I don't want to do that? What if I want to be able to destroy the damn thing myself, with a couple of buddies helping. Problem is, you can't do it.
So is it just perhaps possible that the gunship has been upgraded?

When you're doing strafing runs, you should always come in and out of range in a way that will make the target miss as often as possible. The best method I've figured out is to run a corkscrew pattern--if you pull it off well, you can approach in a tight enough circle to still hit the gunboat while you're moving in a circle that will throw off some of its shots. As you move past the gunboat, boosting's a great way to get you out of range in a hurry, and if it's combined with a corkscrew or other juking pattern, you should be able to get away with your shields intact.
Cap to shield shunt and IFF scramble (if it's clear you're about to eat it) can help out a lot here, too. Hang back till your shields are recharged, then repeat. If you can survive one pass, you can kill that thing.
I don't know what you're flying, but strafing runs can be more effective in a small ship like a Dunelizard than in a large target like a Rihkxyrk or Kimogila. On the other hand, a Rihk can hit harder on each pass, and can carry heavier armor.. still, the advantage in silhouette size, speed, and maneuverability should make a Dunelizard a better option. Depends on your pilot style, though.
Don't get impatient, either. Taking these things out may take a while, but spending another five-ten minutes to ensure you're not risking too much will make up for failing a half-hour mission again.
That's the best advice I've got. I honestly hope it helps.
