Thread: changes for the piloting profession

Some pilots get snippy at these posts not because of an elitist attitude, but because of the attitude of posters who come in here after the game has been out for some time, and expect it to change for them. A lot of these posts seem to come from people who post under the attitude that the missions are impossible and the pilot profession a nightmare, which simply isn't true. There's more than enough help on these forums for people who want it, but absolutely no reason to dumb down the pilot trees.

The number of these posts has increased since RotW came out. I'm glad more people are flying, and I'm glad to help pilots on my server with missions. But posts like this aren't looking for help, they're people who expect the game to be changed for them on a whim.

This would be a great way to add depth to the piloting careers while also throwing in incentives to fly the various types of vessels out there. I pride myself on being a strike fighter pilot well practiced at destroying Cap ships in heavy fighters. I would love to have a special tree to go up that would emphasize these skills. I think that the three catagories (POB ship, Strike Fighter, Dogfighter) are a good suggested mix as well, but the turreted fighters such as Y-wings, Aggressors, Arc- 170 and Krayt would have to each be evaluated before they were placed into a catagory. The Y-wing is clearly a strike fighter, But the Aggressor, Krayt and ARC are a bit more problematic to place.

As a reward for these trees in addition to new skills new titles, flightsuits, helmets and jackets should be available. I'd love to get a title such as "Strike Group Commander" or something similar. I'm sure other titiles could be worked out for the various specialities. Over all this is a great idea for an addition to SWG. Personally I'd rather see this than player controlled CAP ships.

Not to mention I think duties were intended by the Devs to be natural pauses.

Psychopaths like us would blow through them in 60-90 minutes, but it'd take a novice a lot longer, letting them get used to the idea of being one vs. many.

Well, not everyone has a bottomless budget, nor do they all come with great skills. I've helped people with Tier 3, 4 and master missions while advising them on how to use droid commands and where to shop for Tier appropriate components when they make enough money.

I mastered pilot in abouta monthof playing, balanced with time on the ground, I reached 4444 in about two weeks and spent the next couple weeks trying off and on to get into a Corvette group. I soloed all my Tier 3s and half my Tier 4s. I soloed the 30 fighters in Kessel while PvP was still automatic out there, as well as running my Corvette mission in a group of 15, with ten of us going for Master (also while Kessel was PvP enabled by default).

Not everyone gets the same mileage out of space and not all masters are equally skilled.

We need to help these people get master as soon as possible. Maybe take some to Kessell and disable ships for them so they get thier xp without ever gaining any skill. We also must strongly encourage these people to get into PvP so they can provide the refreashingly easly kill to the rest of us spent the time to better our skills and ships so that we can be competitive.

I dunno. In a "twitch" game, I don't see that we "need" to help people who aren't very twitch to get their master block. Help them? Sure, I like to do so. "Need" to help them? Err, no. Honestly, if someone wants their ace box, then they really should try to do it as solo as possible, as EVERYTHING is certainly soloable in JTL. If you can get to that point, you deserve the box.

I like to help, but "need" to help is another story, and certainly I see no reason to dumb it down to make it easier for non-twitch type people.

Are people always this retarded when they reply? Or does it actually take some effort to be a jerk?

For Woody4077, or any pilot that has similar problems: Obviously this is a game. But at the same time it's a game that is 'suppossed to' never end. If the game was easy for everyone, then everyone would play for a month, master everything and quit for lack of better things to do. However, the game has depth: tons of missions outside of skill mastery. The game has length: it requires experience to level up. And the game has range: a large number of people to meet, friends to hang out with, and planets to explore. If anything, it'll take time to get through. But stick with it.

Now, if you want a secret of how to master pilot a lot quicker, try and find a pilot helper, and ask them as many questions as you can. If you look hard enough, these forums have every answer to every question on how to level up quicker and faster.

If you can't find any helper or anyone to point you in the right direction, then let me give you two points to help you out:

#1. Droids, use them. I'm betting you were probably like me when I started out pilot. JTL just came out and I was all giddy on becoming a pilot. So I worked and worked and worked on leveling so I could master it ASAP. Well it didn't come as quickly as I had hoped but unlike myself, you are treading on discovered country. There are plenty of posts on the missions, and the rewards and items and how to tweak a ship, etc. When JTL first came out, barely anyone had a definitive guide on the JTL universe, at least they weren't stickies. Now you have stickies on almost everything. I highly highly recommend reading up on droids and droid interfaces and how to use and abuse them. It'll make your life a lot easier.

#2. Goals, set them. When I was starting on Tier 4, 1 million seemed like it would take forever. And it did (about 2 weeks my first time). But the only way I got through them was to condition myself. No one can move a mountain on their own. Or can they? It's all about the baby steps. For example, my personal goal was to get 100,000 experience every day, that way I knew that it would take 10 days to get one Tier 4 skill box. 1 million is a lot, but 100,000 isn't so bad. Be patient. In time you will be a master, and once you have attained all the glory, you will realize the next time what you could do to make the journey quicker.

Good luck!

1. change the amount of exp needed to get skill boxes

the way it is right now is anVERY long grind

WHOis going to play long enough to

get 1 million exp??

my system is this teir one 20k teir two 60k

teir three 150k teir four 400k master 1 mil

you'll still have to grind but not as much

or as long as the current system

The current system is fine the way it is. Rather than have the BS of the ground game where you can master most professions with ease in a few days, in space you need some skills to reach the master box which is the way a space combat sim should be.

2. loot drops need an increase

space loot is nice but i'm not looting

nearly as much as i would like

2a. more space loot

looting components is fine but why

not have other things to loot

like the flight computers or the

astromechs or the texture kit they

used on the star ship or a chip that we

could take to an npc and exchange for

anything we want

Go to the right static spawn points and you can pick up 40-60 items of space loot in a 60 min or run duty missions which can give almost as good a loot return. Droids and filght comps are player made and should stay that way. Texture kits are one of the few things players buy of shipwrights so spend the couple of hundred creds they are asking.

3. a surrender command

a command would allow us to

surrender and lose some faction points

in exchange for ALL of the enemies

not fighting you until you go and

repair your ship at the nearest

space station

this or bring back no wounds in space

While Im not fond of wounds from space combat due to lack of player docs on most servers the surrender command is just to lame. Space is ment to be danger filled area and should not be cheepened.

Nice elitist attitude, really. Is that a helmet you're wearing or theclinging falloutfrom having your head stuck up your ass?

Did it ever occur to you that multiplayer ships might exist for a reason beyond just looking cool or pissing off Rebels until they're into Tier 2? Cooperative play exists for a reason, poon. As do the solo ships which allow pathetic lone wolfs like you into the mix.

Just remember Kssob, coming to the boards and complaining, without reading for possible solutions, tips, tricks, etc, is a not a positive sign in and of itself. People tend to respond in kind, so if the responses here are a bit terse, well, go back to the source and consider.

Dense aren't we? Ever take reading in school? Appears not.

Anyway, dropping the playground taunts, you obviously missed my comments that I enjoy helping others. However, you also apparently didn't comprehend my point that the game's difficulty is pretty well balanced. For some, its overly easy, for others, terribly difficult to get your first Ace. I think that's just bout right. If its dumbed down to make it easy for everyone to solo without difficulty they will 1) never get better 2) never get a feeling of accomplishment.

Thus, when people say we <stress>need</unstress> to make changes to the difficulty, my response is "no, we do not, keep trying and you'll get it; if you cannot after a lot of hard work, ask for someone to help."

I wrote that last post with a bit of a satirical edge and yes I was being a jerk. However, the same type of people that think 1mil xp is too much work are the same type people that got our equipment nerfed and want to get PvP damage reduced. It is this selfish attitude without thought of why things are the way they are that makes the game seem like a chore at times. So, yes I was a jerk, but I feel that it was justified.

Personnaly, I think master was a bit too easy. From the 1 1/2 days to 4days time to master that others have stated I think it is pretty obvious that it doesn't need to be any easier. Otherwise, to be a master will mean about as much as novice brawler.

So maybe there needs to be an elite pilot profession.
