Thread: changes for the piloting profession

It really bothers me when people expect to have everything handed to them on a silver platter and it's a problem that goes well beyond just SWG. If you can't manage the time or patience it might take you to master any profession, then you don't deserve the title. If they make the profession grind any easier, it'll be like the difference between a doctor that went to medical school versus one who did correspondence courses. They may have the same title but do you really want to get cut open by the latter?

Im sorry to say, but ive read the original posters different threads in different places and he just doesnt make very good points. He seems to be a very young person after reading all of his posts. I dont agree with any of those ideas. The 4 mil xp for tier four took me less than 2 days killing random spawns in kashyk. I got tons of loot from this, over 200 peices, and i think if it was any easier to master i could do it in my sleep.

If you want to master Easily, stay on the ground, leave space for the real pilots out there.

4 million xp for tier 4 is very acceptable, because, by the time you finish the grind, you can afford the master ship, after selling all the loot and reclaiming all the credits, as for dropping Droids/paintkits/textures, what are u trying to do, put me out of buisness? lol
with all the new ships out there that shipwrites cannot make , there is no way for us to make money other than selling those few misc. things. ROTW/CU has ruined a lot of professions.

Play or quit..... there is no whine.

WHOis going to play long enough to

get 1 million exp??

my system is this teir one 20k teir two 60k

teir three 150k teir four 400k master 1 mil

you'll still have to grind but not as much

or as long as the current system

With those xp values... I could prolly master smuggler's alliance in 5 hours... twice.

2. loot drops need an increase

space loot is nice but i'm not looting

nearly as much as i would like

2a. more space loot

looting components is fine but why

not have other things to loot

like the flight computers or the

astromechs or the texture kit they

used on the star ship or a chip that we

could take to an npc and exchange for

anything we want

"2" your blowing up ships... I wouldnt expect to get loot

"2a" again... were blowing up ships

3. a surrender command

a command would allow us to

surrender and lose some faction points

in exchange for ALL of the enemies

not fighting you until you go and

repair your ship at the nearest

space station

this or bring back no wounds in space

If your loosing... why wouldnt they finish you off? it makes no sense, imo.

well those are my top three

Just as the 3 primary factions give certain separate abilities (IFF, Bomberstrike, Epulse, etc) the elites would each give a different ability or two or three, that would give some different flavor to the separate professions (perhaps one of the professions could be primarily for POB pilots, and give an ability that makes operation of a POB ship a little easier or more efficient). (On that line of thought, another profession could be Interceptor and focus on starfighter skills, and another be Strike Fighter, and focus on heavy attack/torpedo skills).

These would have to be very hard, and require a group to do any skill boxes. In fact, they should be harder than Jedi, in my opinion, to encourage more pilot guilds, more grouping, and more people generally organizing space operation.

Maybe make it easier if you group, but not needed. You really should force people into group play, not fair to some of us that play on some of the less populated servers and at odd times. Plus, being an elite profession, you may not find people that can help you out.

1.) 4 million experience total for all of tier 4 isn't bad. You don't pay any experience for Tier 3, so you very well might have a million built up by the time you complete all of tier 3.

As for who would play long enough to have that much...... I have over 20 million prestige points, its quite possible

2.) Upping the loot drop isn't really needed, I seem to get plenty of loot when I go out on a loot trip. Take destroy duty missions, lots of killing means you get lots of loot.

As far as looting other stuff like Paint and Texture kits, that would take away from Shipwrights, which is bad. Astro's and Flight Comps would take away from DE's, which is even worse. In general taking away from any crafting profession is not good practice, keep them as part of the game.

3.) There would be no risk involved in space at all, then. There's not that much as it is anyway, as long as your careful. Give people and instant "Get out of Jail Free" card and it removes all of it. You already have Cap to Shield Shunt and Hyperspacing if things get bad.

In general this is a great idea. I love the concept of an eilte pilot profession. I also think you should able to solo missions... if not require it. I love grouping with my guild and flying missions with them but I know I would be more proud of a badge if I could it by myself. Not that it should be easy... but definitly something that you can be proud of.

And here's why I could never be Pilot correspondent:

1. Tell the thousands upon thousands of Aces (and multi-Aces) that it was a "long grind." The Devs aren't going to make the grind easier because you've got ADD. EDIT: In ways, they already have. Get a Heavy fighter - if Imperials had had that instead of the TIE/TIEln/Interceptor/Advanced grind that vet pilots like MYSELF had had to endure...

2. If you got a loot part with every kill or every OTHER kill, shipwrights wouldn't have a business structure. What, do you want a dialog box with each kill saying something to the tune of:

"HI! CONGRATULATIONS OVER KILLING ME, WHAT PART FROM MY SHIP DO YOU WANT?!?!?"

2a. Once again, you're pissing on shipwrights here - consumables are one of the only STATIC part of their business.

3. Learn to stop dying or properly defend yourself. Surrender until you're ready to fight again? This ain't Vichy France.

While I agree that it is mildy irritating to not get training when I want it (primarily from my having grown accustomed to it on the ground), I think it is a nice variation.

IRL, we don't necessarily get to advance just because we have worked really hard at it. If I am an ass, I get left behind. A cruel, but very real fact. So, a space pilot should necessarily have the same type of requirements, IMHO.

All of these ideas would make the game far too easy. One million xp is not hard to get - run a couple of Tier 4 destroy duty missions and you can knock off that XP very quickly.

As for loot, I actually usually have too much loot. Again, destroy style duty missions are great for this. Some more diverse loot, like the black sun helm, would be neat. We don't need more of the precrafted stuff, like Astromechs and texture kits - shipwrights need that business.

A surrender command would take a lot of the risk and thrill out of the game. Where's the challenge of being able to just give up?

Find some other pilots on your server to fly with, I think that if you actually enjoy flying you'll find the system works very nicely. The grind up is only slow the first time.
