Thread: why do people use the RGI??

Sorry for being a noob but what in the heck is a RGI??? I looked at the pilot faq and only saw the privateer ship that starts with an R. Please just tell me what ship this is.
Royal Guard Interceptor, also known as the Crimson TIE. Its the Kashyyyk Imperial reward parallel to the Vaksai and Advanced X-Wing. If it weren't for the bugged hitbox, it would be one of the premier Imperial ships.

Royal Guard Interceptor... its a bright red interceptor... you can't miss it.
Being a fan of interceptors I love the RGI and can't wait for them to fix it. I love that ship... its red so its really fast. Sometimes I take it out just to play around but I wouldn't use it in PvP and I have never seen anyone in DS use it. However, I have seen them used in mass PvP events with the player knowing aobut the hit box bug. The whole time complaining about "relics". Then again I think using a heavy starter ship and complaining about JSF's is a bit hypocritical too.
If the heavy starters had the same performance and sillouhette issues that the Bel-22 and JSF have, it would be a different story.

As it is, they are not muchmore than equalizers for Master Pilots to have a starter ship for a return to a profession. Their performance stats are equal to a normal Tier 1 ship, so its not like giving them to a newbie is any sort of immediate benefit. You can't say that about the JSF or Bel.
According to the FAQ they do have the same performance except for the heavy TIE which is very slightly less maneuverable but a touch faster and they have more mass. although they do only have 1 gun but a really good L8 RE or a half decent L10 RE is enough that it doesn't matter and they have plenty of mass to handle a gun like that. True the hitbox is bigger except for maybe the z-95 (I think it is about the same size as the bel-22).
However, I do agree that they mainly just benefit masters redoing the squad but you see alot of them in PvP.

Many imperial pilots purchased RotW to get the RGI because to them it looked pimp, before they knew anything of the stats or it being bugged. Most of that same crew don't fly them in PvP anymore because they have learned it is bugged.
A few who do not read the forums don't realize it is bugged, as I found a few pilots in my guild who had no clue about it until two weeks ago.
As for those who know and still use it in PvP, I got no clue. ![]()
I dislike seeing the RGI in PvP. It's not impossible to kill, no--but it is extremely frustrating to sit behind one, pounding shot after shot into it, and not getting a hit. I'm talking about it flying in a predictable loop while I'm outturning it. Last time it happened I ended up calling in one of the X-wing pilots in the group to missile it since I couldn't get a hit on its hitbox.
I never complain about someone flying either a starter ship or a relic--yes, I've been flying the Actis, yes, it should be balanced against the original JtL craft, and yes, I'm working on coming up with a non-relic to fly in PvP. ![]()

Norram is at it again?! HAHAHAHHAHAHAH
Good greif.
kreindhild, norram is not a very good PvP pilot - at least back when i knew him.
This is a guy, who consistantly relies on "I win" situations.
See, way back when, like back when brias only large imperial pilot PA existed, norram was in it, and i had the "fortune" of being his CO and also responsible for training. Norram was innovative in his own unique ways, contrary to the direction i was urging people to go.
The instant i informed everyone what an oppressor is for, he took to that ship, and became a total missle boat boy. I didnt like it, i thought it's exclusive and excessive use was lame, but there was no convincing him otherwise. He'd drive the rest of us nuts with his incessant bragging. It was all we could do to tolerate him and keep a smile on our face.
The our Imp pilot excusive PA opened its doors to RSF piloting, thats when he discovered the the true lameness of EP3 (or was the missle whor3ing before EP3? i forget? point is he did both).
Long story short, norram moved from an oppressor to EP3 or vice versa. Never would this boy get in a real dogfighter. If it wasnt a sure thing, he woudlnt do it.
So i guess now we can ad RGI abuse along with EP3 and missle boy to his rap sheet.
Norrams not dumb however. You can bet he'll have an RE'd engine (this is soemthign i drilled into his head from early on), your best bet to knock him out, (besides his beloved EP3 - which i think you should use so he gets a taste of his own medicne), is to scalp that red injun. Only a hit on the upper hemisphere of the ball will do any damage. If you can, latch on to his ass, try and empty your capacitors into him, and hit him with a few missles.
Or just solve the delemia and EP3 him - i would.
Think I'm cheating when I pull my Oppressor to DS, with my Mark V shields, 104speed engine and 3 Mk2 Im-Rec's and no blasters?
It's a different playstyle. Just like. Just like two Swordmen hammering each other, one pulls a rifle and runs away.
I think it's way cool when someone dares to try something different. Sorry to say it, but alot of the frequents here are so self righteous.

That's why I have one in my datapad. I wouldn't use it in PvP, though. I wouldn't use any of my ROTW ships in PvP.
Question, though: Do we have official word on the RGI?Do the devs acknowledge itsbugged status? Is therean ETA on fixing it? Etc?
And while we're on the subject, do we have any official word on WO3?

QFE. I'm not a missile freak, but I keep them loaded, nonetheless. There is a role for them in PvP, like it or not. Just another element that keeps you on your toes. I hate going into light fighter duels knowing both pilots have practically the same load out, same performance specs, and will end up using the same tactics.
The issue here isn't tactics or loadouts, its the deliberate abuse of a known bugged spacecraft. If anyone has any questions about the RG TIE, but doesn't have access to one, go to Kashyyyk near the Imperial station, there are Tier 3 RG TIEs that spawn there. Spend about an hour trying to kill them. Its the most annoying and frustrating experience you'll ever have.
