Thread: My REVISED Idea For New Pilot Content

as for smugglers you don't have to tell me about them i used to play one, not for holo grinding but for pleasure

i think that if the only way to make devs implement the idea is to give access to any player i would say go ahead, after all right now all of smuggling is a waste of points, so even a minimun increase of effectiviness is welcome (aint that the slicing mantra )

as for not firing on missions only a couple of those objectives require to fire (disabling a ship mostly) you can alwaysrun away to the Waypoint and jump to next stage, but if you are caught in a scan andchoose not to surrender then you will fight.

also if you read it again you will see that the missions you can obtain at non smuggler level are next to identical to some already in game (is it dantooine system i think?) only this time they can make more than 3 "runs"

because you don't want to lose your leg you prefer the body to die of gangrene. very noble but quite futile.

My apologies to the original poster. I'm sure you're a very good pilot, and your ideas are sound.

But, you're not going to find a whole lot of support from the Smuggler community (as you may have noticed) for a proposal that gives everybody access to Smuggler content.

Let me put it in this nutshell...

You can't gain access to Bounty Hunter content (Spynet Ops, BH terms, etc.) withoutspending SOME SP in Bounty Hunter. Why then would you think having access to Smuggler content should be any different?

If you say something about that farce of a Smuggler's Alliance, I'll puke. I was against the Smuggler's Alliance in JtL Beta...and I'm even more against it now. That's like the ultimate slap in the face to people who spent SP to BECOME Smugglers.

To my Smuggler commrades, I /salute.

To everyone else, I leave this link:

I take insult by that. I give you the benefit tof the doubt because you have played smuggler, but I am by no means a waste of SP's.

The mantra you are seeing here is simple, and DRWolfe said it well, if you want to allow delivery for legal goods...great so it. I would love to see real cargo ships, and more economy based in space. But as soon as it turns to illegal goods, either you have to have a "Smugglers chance of a revamp" tm (read: snowballs chance in hell) or not be able to do it all. It is our domain, we deserve to have it.

I'm not one to care if we get new Smugglers into the profession. Personally I like the fact that there aren't many of us, it has helped us to build, and maintain a strong community of brethren and kindred spirits. if people want tospend the SP to pick up the profession then great, but don't tell me that a nuetral smugglers alliance pilotwith no SP's in Smuggler should have access to the same content.

This was linked to on the Smuggler forum, so I thought I'd pop my head in and take a look . First of all, great post, I'd love to see cargo holds added to the game in this manner; you'd reach somewhat of a problem should this system ever include cargo transport for other players (due to the game not having any manner of weighting system), but I'm sure such a bridge could be crossed in the event of it actually happening.

I'll have to agree with my peers and say I believe Smuggler should remain primarily with Smugglers (one might think such a sentence redundant, but apparently not ). My thanks to MonsofoLexius for stating his position on this, hopehe doesn't feel like I'm treading on his toes as that's not what I'm here for.

Anyway, back to where I came from .

The other day i needed somethign sliced and i looked for a MS because my slicing was already down to 1, after the slice we could not trade between us, (dunnno why) and we needed a third person to make the trade , both of us nearly cried because this third person was acting more like a smuggler than any of us.

If you let other profesion have a SMALL (read again SMALL) share of smuggling (and i am one of those that thing contraband should not be on vendors but if it is going tostay weshould make the most of it) i for one would choose pilot,

you don't care about new players into smuggling well that leads to a proffesion nobody cares for and gets nerf nobody else is against (FD nerf i curse you)

why are you so against this idea but yet i have to see any smuggler complaining about storage droids bypassing scans?

Sincerely as a Waste of points smuggler is as bad as getting Master BH as opposed to a TKM BH dabbler it is only a matter of pride.

i am tired of reading " they do not pay attention to us because we are so few buh buh " and yet when somebody posts a idea to bring more vitality to a dying profession (yes dying, it has been bleding for more than 2 years) you flame him and instead of looking for alternatives like:

well instead of a Smuggler terminal make it an NPC,

force the players to group a smuggler to get the mission on ground

or any other idea you resort to say "smuggling is for smugglers only", Sorry to tell you this but after 2 years that method has proved to be inefficient, why not try something new?

are smuggler complaining that FS skill persuasion is MASTER MEDIC only? no yet it is one of the FS skills that should be associated to smugglers.

It needs to occur to people that Legal doesn't have to equate to boring. There are LOTs of pirates out there more than willing to try and suck the life from a light freighter. Yeah, the Naboo to Rori run would be cake, but if I'm sent to deliver to Science Outpost on Dathomir? I'm arming for bear.

My rethinking of this is that there can be a whole series of Ace level content for non Smugglers, and there's no reason why it can't be thrilling and fun for groups in MP ships. However the biggest baddest missions with the most dangerous cargoes and the biggest paydays should be in the hand's of a true Smuggler. Equate it to Jedi Bounty Missions. If a CorSec or RSF pilot signs on as "On Duty" then a Smugglers chances of drawing a high end mission increase. The Smuggler can draw the mission, and if he makes it in to land past the supposedly watching eyes of the patrol pilots, he gets a bonus. If he dumps and runs too often on these missions, uh oh BH visibility... say hello to Jabba's latest wall decoration

Rudeness unnecessary. The Smugglers are contributing their viewpoint, and its just as valid as any other. Most of the Smugglers I know are avid pilots too. You may have missed it, but it's my understanding that Smugglers have complained about ALL those issues at one time or another.

I'm not saying we shouldn't have new Smugglers...that's nonsense, I just don't think we need to stretch reasoning for a change to include "it'll bring in new blood!" when it isn't needed.

why are you so against this idea but yet i have to see any smuggler complaining about storage droids bypassing scans?

What?!?! You obviously weren't around much when the "Imperial Letdown" occurred. there are sooo many posts, threads, rants, and pleas regarding droid storage mudules that some had to serve out suspensions.

Sincerely as a Waste of points smuggler is as bad as getting Master BH as opposed to a TKM BH dabbler it is only a matter of pride.

I haven't seen any flames yet. You gotta know what they are before you accuse, man. Coming in and defending our profession is healthy. There were no name calling, no heated words, none of it. Hell, even just about all of us commended the OP on the idea and well written post. Don't make it more then it is.

well instead of a Smuggler terminal make it an NPC,

force the players to group a smuggler to get the mission on ground

This is called progress. Take the idea, evolve it so it works. That's what these discussions are about right?

Actually I don't think there should be any profession specific FS skills. Persuasion is ability all Smugglers should have, same with Luck. Shouldn't require FS, but that is another discussion.

Please either contribute to the thread or shut up.

I hope that these ideas make it into the game. I truly do. As Wes said, the idea is great, cargo is something space lacks...severely. Just keep non-Smugglers away from Smuggling missions. Adapt it to gear more towards legal goods for non-smugglers, and illegal goods for Smugglers. I even like the mission progression mentioned earlier, just a few tweaks.

No need to get fired up, just keep the discussion flowing.

so it could be just a normal terminal but smugglers could get a mission difficulty bonus that would make them access smuggler missions?

the terminal will send you to a ground NPC so to be coherent (nobody should advertise illegal bussiness) and the NPC will give you the waypoints,

in that moment "on duty" pilot players from RSf or corsecwoulde receive a hint that "player X" is supposed to move cargo out of system Y into system Z so be on the look out?

or "on duty" players couldgetthat mission from the stationin the dialog something likestop andscan player X so iftehy can/inspect the target a TEF pops and the smuggler has torun for it?

could be a beggining.

maybe the security forces have all your waypoints name and get updated waypoints to you but they have less info when you have more underworld?

Another thought I had would be different gates and hurdles. Not just hints to the Patrol players, but a cursory scan from Port Authority when the Smuggler tries to land. If it fails, the Patrols are alerted and the Smuggler has to run. After a short period, if he gets far enough from the Station, he can IFF spoof then go back and land again under the faked ID. IFF spoof could also functio differently for a Smuggler on these missions.

Say Pilot A and Smuggler X are in the system at the same time. Pilot A is on a legal run. Smuggler X does an IFF spoof, and to all intents and purposes, any patroller sees him as Pilot A. Who is the real one? send him a /tell, and the one with the incorrect respondent is the Smuggler in disguise

Yeah, 1 stars from people too inept to post a decent counterargument are cool.

If someone can give me a logical reason why someone should be able to smuggle without paying points for it, I'll shut up. This great idea everyone seems to love is proposing a fundamental shift in the way swg makes content for given professions, and I want to know the justification.

A) Because this isn't the place to bring a beef about the ground smuggling profession. That belongs in the smuggling board, and possibly the core game board.

This is where someone has posted a proposal about SMUGGLING for people who have not invested the skill points in SMUGGLER. We are entitled to express our opinions about this idea RIGHT HERE.

B) Because there is a rather obvious lack of content for aces. Granted, there's deepspace, but that hardly counts as content...I'd call it a farm.

This is NOT a logical argument for giving SMUGGLING content to those who have not invested the skill points for the SMUGGLING profession. See below for some examples of potential "Space Content" that would be met with resistance by other professions.

Delivery missions of LEGAL cargo? Fine. SMUGGLING and evasion of scans, etc.? No.

C) Just because you're not a ground smuggler, who's to say you don't make a bit of cash on the side when you're in space? Do you need to open locked containers to be able to put something in a secret compartment?

I am NOT an artisan on the ground. Should I be able to survey for andmine precious and rare resources off of an asteroid in space?

I am NOT an entertainer or a medic on the ground. Should I be able to heal health and action wounds and dance on a YT in space to relieve battle fatigue and mind wounds?

I am NOT a Bio-Engineer. Should I be able to obtain samples from rare species in space?

You get the idea.

What about that entertainer you were just listening to in the cantina? Just because he doesn't make spices on the groun doesn't mean he can't transport Packet A with him when he hops to a different planet to perform a gig.

Fine with me, as long as Packet A is LEGAL CARGO.

Yes smuggler is broken...if anyone in SWG doesn't know by now, then they're either fresh out of the box or their dead. But that doesn't mean to say that because it's broken on the ground, it can't have a bandaid in space.

Now hang on a second. We have been told by SOE that SMUGGLING is "kind of a spacey profession" and have been led to believe that JTL would provide some actual SMUGGLING content. While I have issueswith having to buy an expansion to truly play the profession I selected, I bought it. Only to find that the "neutral" faction in space was called "The Smugglers Alliance" and that ANYONE could join it.

And I agree -- smuggling missions in spacewould only be a bandaid -- and only as long as SMUGGLING is limited to those who have invested the skill points.

It wouldn't be unreasonable to let someone take small amounts of illegal cargo on their ships

Yes,it WOULD be unreasonable ifthat someonehas access to making credits bySMUGGLINGwithout having invested the skill points -- without being a SMUGGLER. If you are talking about spices or sliced weapons for which they paid and which they carry on their person (as in the ground game) they should be subject to search and fines, etc. But NOT MISSIONS.

but then again, is Jabba or Lady Val going to trust me, someone who isn't a smuggler, with a shipment of goods worth hundreds of thousands of dollars? I know I wouldn't!
Herein lies the key...ADVANTAGES FOR BEING A GROUND SMUGGLER!!!

So I should be able to dance and heal wounds in space (with no SP in either profession), it just will take a little longer? And if I am a dancer or medic on the ground I would get bonuses to healing in space? Same with surveying and mining? Same with obtaining samples for Bio-engineering?

As he said in the very first post,

ddrlenz wrote:

Now I'm sure some people would find this very boring. Well, perhaps a life of crime is for you? Perhaps you would like to live life like Han Solo? Then the Smuggling Mission Terminal (SMT) is for you. The missions listed on the SMT would be much like those on the CHT, but not quite so legal. These missions would again be available to everyone, but Smugglers would get many perks at these missions

There are some good ideas in the original post. BUT: SMUGGLING of ILLEGAL ITEMS belongs to those who invest skill points in SMUGGLER.

Actually, smugglers did complain about the storage droids bypassing scans. Look it up.

The smuggle community has posted numerous ideas on how to improve our profession, including putting Smuggler Terminals into the game (it does not matter if said terminal is an NPC or not); we were told they would take it under advisement and that we would have to wait for our long overdue revamp.

The whole idea of giving non-smugglers access to smuggling missions is akin to the debate over on the contraband on merchant terminals. Someone suggested that smugglers should be able to have terminals to sell contraband only, that idea was flamed as taking something away from the merchant profession. This is no different, except for the fact that we smugglers don't have any smuggling capability. We do not have any due to indifference on our part, but due to the constant delays, and the Devs telling us wait for the revamp.

The smuggler community should not be expected to give their profession away, just because we don't have our smuggling content.
