Thread: My REVISED Idea For New Pilot Content

Cool ideas!

I was kinda making up my own smuggling missions. I would go get stuff from my harvesters on Yav IV then launch into space and fly to the Smuggler's Run hyperpoint before leaving the system. This usually got me in a few fire fights from just Imperial mobs in the zone.

But taking a smuggling or cargo type mission with having pirates or Imperials spawning in and trying to hijack you or make you stop for inspection would be great!

5 stars for you!

A) Because this isn't the place to bring a beef about the ground smuggling profession. That belongs in the smuggling board, and possibly the core game board.

B) Because there is a rather obvious lack of content for aces. Granted, there's deepspace, but that hardly counts as content...I'd call it a farm.

C) Just because you're not a ground smuggler, who's to say you don't make a bit of cash on the side when you're in space? Do you need to open locked containers to be able to put something in a secret compartment?
What about that entertainer you were just listening to in the cantina? Just because he doesn't make spices on the groun doesn't mean he can't transport Packet A with him when he hops to a different planet to perform a gig.

Yes smuggler is broken...if anyone in SWG doesn't know by now, then they're either fresh out of the box or their dead. But that doesn't mean to say that because it's broken on the ground, it can't have a bandaid in space. It wouldn't be unreasonable to let someone take small amounts of illegal cargo on their ships, but then again, is Jabba or Lady Val going to trust me, someone who isn't a smuggler, with a shipment of goods worth hundreds of thousands of dollars? I know I wouldn't!
Herein lies the key...ADVANTAGES FOR BEING A GROUND SMUGGLER!!!

Then the Smuggling Mission Terminal (SMT) is for you. The missions listed on the SMT would be much like those on the CHT, but not quite so legal. These missions would again be available to everyone, but Smugglers would get many perks at these missions

I don't have a beef about the Smuggler profession, I have a beef about someone trying to horn in on what's theirs by rights. It was posted here, I replied here.

B) Because there is a rather obvious lack of content for aces. Granted, there's deepspace, but that hardly counts as content...I'd call it a farm.

Agreed, little content for Aces, but I don't see people begging to be allowed free access to BH terminals because it would be cool to hunt Jedi. How long has it been since any content for Smugglers was added? I think we should wait our turn instead of trying to steal their pie.

C) Just because you're not a ground smuggler, who's to say you don't make a bit of cash on the side when you're in space? Do you need to open locked containers to be able to put something in a secret compartment?

Yes, that's how it works in the real world, but my point is in swg you pay points for access to things related to your profession, if you don't pay points you shouldn't smuggle under the current system.

Yes smuggler is broken...if anyone in SWG doesn't know by now, then they're either fresh out of the box or their dead. Just because they get perks doesn't make it right for anyone to be able to do what they paid points for.

It would still be unfair to non-smuggler aces who've invested the time and effort in to mastering a pilot profession to be denied something that they may want to do. Yes smugglers should be able to access high end missions, and get perks, but I'd like to be able to transport a small packet of spices or something across the galaxy.

And if it was a requirement to become a smuggler, I'd pick up novice smuggler, which would only further devaluate the profession.

Great ideas.

There is a real problem with the ground game. Smuggler is such a slapped-together-out-of-junk profession as it stands now, it just stinks. Let me ask you guys a question: What do you think defines a smuggler? Is it an action (i.e., smuggling) or a label?

Im not sure where it is posted anymore (i think stratics has it), but this idea is very similar to the Smuggler Revamp that the devs have pitched and started focus threads about. The only difference is that the origninal poster added delivery missions for everyone and the compartment idea. Im all for allowing everyone to do LEGAL delivery missions, but smuggling should be left to smugglers. This revamp has been promised for over a year. And i think that instead of asking for ground professions' abilities in spae, we should all be pushing for space integration of each profession. And it is very possible (like what was mentioned with squad leader, commando, etc space abilities). I'm guessing SOE's goal is to integrate ground and space fully, and if thats the case, you cant give everyone EVERY new ability thats related to the ground.

Your argument about being able to smuggle without being a smuggler just cause we need content, would be the same as a ground soldier saying everyoneshould be able toHunt bounties like abounty hunter because we need ground content. It doesn't work that way. And yes, when the smuggler revamp comes, everyone will pick up novice smuggler because it\s the profession of the day, but when they decide to integrate another ground profession, then everyone will jump ship to that one.Just have patience (we have for over a year). Besides, at the track they are on the smuggler revamp wont happen fr another 2 years, so by then they would have integrated squad leader, artisan (mining), commando, and even entertainer!

You might as well just remove any and all profession specific content then with that line of reasoning. There is a strong difference between investing time and effort, and actual skill points. Investing the skill points limits other options severely. Time and effort, wellyou can always put in more...not so with skill points.

I think it is fine to allow regular delivery missions for aces or any other level pilot, in fact I think this proposal is quite good. No, not revelutionary, it's been brought up many many times, but well said and pieced together (kudos and 5 *'s to the OP). I don't think they should be muscled out of space content, but just because the content is in space doesn't make it their domain to control. Having ground profession specific content in space is great, and it compliments space professions. Much in the same way it is intended. if they wanted space professions to be professions all unto themselves then they would force us to invest SP's in them and they would provide more skills (usable on ground and space).

Look, just because I can /emote dance doesn't mean that I should be able to do it on a MP ship and heal BF and buff people. So just because it's in space doesn't change the rules. The ground and space need to co-exist, which means looking at the whole picture.

We were absolutely PO'd and frustrated when SOE decided that they would label thousands of nuetral pilots as smugglers when real Smugglers still couldn't smuggle. Making the option to have actual Smuggling missions generated at will, but allowing anyone to do them would be just kicking us while we are down.

Perhaps if the content made it nearly impossible for non-Smugglers to succeed, then it would be acceptable. Such as penalties that are crippling to most for failure, attacks that are overwhelmingly difficult, and reward that is minimal....for non-Smugglers. If you are a smuggler (SA) then maybe you get a very small bonus...say 10% off the top in severity. However as a Smuggler (with a progressive bonus through the skill trees up to Master) you end up flip flopping the severity...a chance to escape any penalty, attacks that are managable with the right skills and equipment (we'd still want a challenge) and a reward that makes the whole thing worthwhile.

As a side note and ammendment to the original idea...nix the "Smuggling Mission Terminal" there isn't a smuggler on these forums that wants to sacrifice immersion to have yet another blatantly illegal thing out in the open for all to see (read: shouting for slices and spices, spices and sliced items on vendors,etc.). Just move them to various shady NPC's that only talk to Smugglers.

While I appreciate the sentiment that favors smugglers in the OP idea, it just needs to be gated in such a way that doesn't allow pilots who have not invested skill points in the Smuggler proffesion to take content away from a content starving profession. And giving bonuses to smuggler alliance pilots is so far from the same thing, that I won;t even mention it again.

Great discussion though!

Edited for typos.

I don't care at all if any player can take frieght hauling missions of LEGAL goods. That is just a plain old Fedex mission.

The moment though you have any but Smugglers taking smuggling missions I object in the strongest possible way.

Any transport of contraband should be for smugglers only. Only smugglers should get defense agains scan bonuses.

Sorry but we've been waiting nearly two years for smuggling content and I will not agree to share it with those that have not spent skill points in that profession.

Would CHs agree to let non-CHs tame animals?

Would Dancers agree to let non-entertainers have special dances?

Musicians want non-entertainers to be able to play instruments?

How about weaponsmiths letting non-artisans craft their own special weapons?

I think any smuggling content should stay with the Smugglers.

as the idea states Smugglers would get the bonuses for smuggling missions, even could be a bonus like bounty hunter mission that way only master smugglers would get the highest missions.

Also not every delivery boy is a smuggler, last time i checked dominos delivery was not smuggling but the delivery boy can and are mugged because they carry "goods".

He was talking about smuggling without being a Smuggler...

I agree that Fedex delivery missions are fine for non-smugglers. But NOT transport of contraband, that should be for Smuggler profession only.

And if you want to take Novice Smuggler only for the small defense against scans then fine but you won't be doing much but the easiest smuggling missions.

And a HUGE NO on non-smugglers getting defense against scan bonuses.

I know the devs have absolutely no respect for our profession but it sure would be nice to see some from our fellow players. We don't ask for weaponsmithing without the skill investment so have some respect for our profession.

Well non smugglers getting very low level smuggling missions could help smugglers to increase their numbers if they idea was well implemented,

non smuggler"delivery boy"

launch, go to waypoint 2k away, jump, fight pirates, waypoint 2k awaythen proceed to station

novice smuggler "the middleman"

launch, goto waypoint 2k away, hyper, /dock with ship, move to waypoint with 2-3 spawns of pirates , hyper, move to waypoint /dock

and proceed to station

UW1"Space pirate"

same as above but this timeyou have to disable the target and the scort(you are stealing the cargo),andwhen arriving station you are scanned by security forces, fail and you have to run away 5K to another waypoint to get rid of the TEF and try to come back.

UW2"usual suspect"

launch this time authorities are on you, they areneutral but try to intercept you if they come closer than 200 you are screwed and have to fight you have to get at least6K distance WP beforemaking first jump or you can just kill them, hyper, /dock, survive pirate/security attack while doing the dock maneuver and some, maybe even 2 extra jumps to "deliver part of the cargo" and face more enemies, go to waypoint , hyper, scan(if you killed the security forces your chances to get past the scan are reduced) land

UW3 "Public enemy"

you are well known and as soon as you launch to space the security forces are Aggresive to you, again make it to WP 5-6k away but this time enemy pirates can spawn because you are well known and have a grudge against you,

more fighters and maybe even gunboats at the same time (you don't have to stay to fight ). rest like mission above

UW4 "My head has a price"

this time you are not only facing NPCs but your name will appear on BH terminals and they will know at least 2 of your forced Waypoints and will be PVP enabled to any other player, you still can choose other missions if you don't want to PvP

MSmuggler

now the missions become like a small movie

you launch, authorities try to stop you this time they have a gunboat, you jump to space Steal the cargo from a convoy (a BIG one so you would prefer friends for this mission) make maybe 4 jumps and in each stage you have to move to several Waypoints to deliver the cargo facing authorities lots of enemies, players, BHs, several scans, maybe even /dock with a corvette and then run like hell as soon as it turn aggro on you, i think everybody gets the idea.

many players would listen to those missions, get a taste at the lowest level and maybe even get MS to get the high end missions, but they should be able to participate as escorts if they were grouped when you got the mission.

so i like the idea of non professional smugglers acting like hired guns for Space smuggling missions.

Those are nice ideas but way to aggressive. I want to avoid any encounter. And if I run into an obstacle have the option of fast talking, bribery and forged documents.

There is a difference between weapons and abilities. And one should not be able to smuggle as easy as they pick up a gun. Even if they suck at it.

Bounty Hunting is a good comparison for this- Not only do you have to devote skill points to get the title- you have to go further to get better missions. Smuggling should be thought of the same way.

Delivery missions of legal material- No Problem. You are not stepping on anyone's toes. There isn't a profession devoted to mail delivery/pizza delivery/moving material.

There is however a profession devoted to illegal material. It's called the Smuggler.

There are people in this profession that have waited since LAUNCH to smuggle. Smuggle meaning delivering ILLEGAL material through guarded checkpoints for a price.

When it comes to that smugglers should be the only ones doing it. We deserve it. We've earned it. We've waited for it. I love the dudes idea but if you think the whole player base should be able to take smuggling missions as soon as they get a ship- you are wrong.
