And I liked when the chicks on the old show wore the tights, instead of them acting like dikes. It is way to soap oprea like now for my taste.

I boycotted it for a long time, being a huge fan and growing up with the OS. On the good word of several people on this forum, my server forum and some friends I gave it a shot.
I ended up loving it.
Resistance is futile... oh wait different show
Prepare to be assemilated... drat
Frakin A !
much better another OS BSG convert /cheer !!
Ok guys, focus.
I'm talking about a group of people who don't know where Earth is but who are still apparently importing and driving Hummers. It really ruins the effect to hear them talking about Cylons while standing next to my friend's Hummer. I think that's pretty lame.
The pistols they carry look different enough to be semi-believable. The automatic weapons they're using are H&K 9mm along with a few other very-recognizable, very contemporary, uh, EARTH weapons.
Regarding the plot twists available by having the "enemy invisible among us", I especially hate that, but I recognize that's just my personal taste. A lot of people seem to like watching a show for long periods of time only to find out later that everything they've been watching so far was . . . oh . . . wrong, and the situation is totally different . . . or is it . . . I wonder if "Q" will pop up. . .
I can also understand having enough "tie ins" to current events to bring the audience into the show and make it all believable because the audience can identify with the characters and surroundings. Too much of that and you have a B rated movie. Or series, as the case may be.
I lost it when I saw the them pull up in a Hummer. That was over the top. That destroys the whole premise to the series that they're in a far away Star System trying to find earth. How should I believe that when I just saw them pull up in the same vehicle that was on the previous commercial.
It would be easier to say that Earth got invaded by Cylons and that we've made minor advances in technology.
You can also compare that to the actual Star Wars movies. They are quite "fantastic" and even though they have generally strange surroundings, creatures, people, tools and vehicles, they are still very recognizable to us. Yet at the same time we recognize that they're "out there".
Ok. Go ahead and resume flaming now. Had to get another two cents in.
If they were to show up on Earth's doorstep circa now, believing in polytheism (Athena, Zeus, and the like), I'd bet the US wouldn't even let them land. Cut to Europe getting the technology.
They'd probably take one look at us and go "where's the nearest black hole?"

In the original series they arrived on Earth in the 1980s.

Oh wonderful..."Welcome to Earth - here's about 50,000 ICBMs since we're so paranoid we'll nuke anything that appears even vaguely out-of-the-ordinary."
Yeah, that actually brings up another thought.
If we're here on earth and we have the Battlestar Galactica show up and they say "Hi Earthlings. By the Lords of Kobol, we're glad we found you. And, oh, by the way, right behind us are the Cylons that just nuked twelve of our planets and hate humans. What's for dinner?"

There are a ton of inconsistancies in all sci-fi shows. Wouldn't take long to pick apart ANY of them. Farscape, Firefly, Star Trek, etc. So you watch them for entertainment value because its really impossible to follow and consistantly keep technically sound.
As for Starbucks Humvie, could stand to reason that its an antique/rebuilt/stored vehicle.
The guns? /shrug really not that big a deal to me. Hell they still use bullets, really if you're still using those instead of going to 'lasers' anyways, how much further do you think they can go with the technology? They use explosive rounds, thats plenty far along enough for me. All in all, guns themselves haven't made near the technological leap as you'd think they would considering all the other technology around.
I will say this though, as far as I'm aware the effect of the massive ammount of radiation should have rendered the electronics useless. Although it has been months, so I'm not sure how long it takes to disperse enough for things to start working again.
Meh still a good show.

Given that the apparent intent was to preserve the cities and such It looks like they used neutron bombs, which are designed to kill the populace but leave everything else alone. Also it isn't the radiation that really kills electronics its the ElectroMagnetic Pulse from the initial blasts that tends to fry electronics. What radiation would have an effect on is stuff like magnetic media, and film.
That makes sencebecause it doesnt make much sence for a race of Machines to irradiate and whipe out all electronics on every world they're trying to conquore(sp?)

I much prefer the new series over the original. Better storylines, more interesting characters, better special effects, a darker theme. My impression of the original series is that it wasgeared towards children, while the new series is geared more towards adults. As for the Hummer, I'd rather have them drive around in a Hummer than some cheesy looking "space" car like I've seen on some of the older sci fi shows.
Of course, it's still not as good as Firefly.
