After 15 years of flying spacesims 1st person, I'm too rusted to switch to third. 1st person, cockpit off.

I fly 3rd. It just feels like I have a better awareness of my surroundings that way.

First person, cockpit on for me. Anything else makes me feel like I'm playing Rogue Squadron: MMP instead of the successor of the X-Wing series.

1rst, cockpit off.
interestingly, 1st cockpit off shows an inch or two of space "above" you. while 3rd shows an inch or two "below" you (and whatever is in the plane behind you, since perspective is set off the ship) it's interesting to do some screenshots from a fixed point and compare. i don't like my ship blocking the recticle in 3rd person though.

3rd, Just looks cooler, Wish we could see our character when scrolled around in teh cockpit instead of an empty cockpit.

1st person cockpit off mostly, but 3rd for the YT (so I can tell which of my gunners I need to yell at.

1st person, cockpit on, all professions ive ever done.
Im an old sim fan, so 3rd person is just wierd to me.
Im also a big fan of the POV hat switch, but.. that doesnt do me much good in a Tie
Love it in an "glass cockpit" ala xwing or dunelizard.

Why you ask? In real life, I have a wide field of vision, and can turn my head and see a large area of view around me. In 1st person in a game, I only have a narow fild of vision, and too many things sneak up beside me, so 3rd person replicates a wider view better.
you don't really see any more in 3rd person view, aside from the plane directly behind you, but a ship needs to be awfully close to get in that plane. sure you can see the bolts hit you, and the direction they came from, but you can garner the same information from the radar in the same amount of time.
it looks like a wider field of vision, but it's really not. try doing screenshot tests from a fixed point. what does give you a wider viewpoint is playing in widescreen though.

First person, cockpit off. Third person is nice because I'd rather look at my ship than a screenful of nothing but space and a reticle, but it's just too hard to control your ship as precisely from behind.

I fly first person cockpit off. Except in my YT then usually 3rd to help align the ships for the gunners and that 1rst person in a YT is boring for piloting
