I think it sounds like a great idea. I'd love to have some NPCs manning my turrets if I can't fire them myself from the pilot seat.

Alright, so turret bots are a problem in pvp and might foster afk looting in space. Bad idea. But why can´t the weapons be fired - aimed dead ahead - from the cockpit? If someone want to fly solo in his POB, why not? I doubtthis would tempt the ETA-2 pilots to switch to the YT-1300 anyway...

I still fail to see how a gunner-bot could even work at all seeing as how JTL's combat is twitch-based, not turn-based.

The reason I like the pilot idea is that there are times I've had RP events on my Yacht Casino or have been doing RP on my decimator and some poor slob has to sit out of the fun so that the ship can move. Being able to have some sort of autopilot in a POB ship would be helpful. Some of my friends just use their alt to be the pilot-bot in this case, but it would be nice to cut out the middleman. I don't see how a pilot-bot would be unbalancing or promote afk-ing. Especially if it's not available while you're declared or in deep space.

If they set up the autopilot bot to work with a series of waypoints to cruise to, that would be nice.

I posted in the GCW forums too, but I'll re-post here:

I hate this idea. NPCs in ships? Gunners aren't hard to find if you look for em. This is a multiplayer game and there are multiplayer ships... if you can't find a crew/gunnerfly a starfighter.

S'what I do.

Maybe I'm a purist, but I just think if you're flying a multi-player ship then you should have more than one Player in it.

Anyway, don't think it matters, even if the Devs could implement this... I don't see why they would

I'm all for the repair droid. Well, I am a Droid Engineer so why wouldn't I be? BUT, just to be fair, the droids could only repair up to a certain ammount (as stated, 75% sounds good) and that droids decay. I know it sounds crazy, but think about it. You buy a repair droid for your YT-2400 and never need to buy another. So, that's what I think.

Oh, I also think that the whole "auto-gunner" thing for POB ships isn't a good idea. Now if I were flying, let's say, a Corvette, then the gunners would be okay.

My two creds....

How about the Droids are one-time purchases (I'm a huge fan of an R-droid running around repairing stuff), but require special retrofitted repair kits? The droid-use repair kits would be DE crafted, and two of the sub-components would be a conduit repair kit and one other repair kit (general purpose kit could be used).

A POB Repair Droid would certainly be 'StarWarsy'

Aye... would give business to DEs, as well as shipwrights... sounds like a plan.

And on the rest of the topic... heck, i am a lousy pilot, but the turret on my Krayt gets used quite often. (Often enough that the "ghost gun" bug on the turret starts to annoy me... everybody i take for a ride asks me for it...) I already was along for blasting the vette in my arc (with both guns manned), i had 4 men on my YT-1300 to crush the vette at some other time.

Killing the vette in my guild is an "event" where many people love to participate, we already agreed that the next master pilot will be made with everybody in the decimator of my guildleader. Also, the upcomming changes, stronger shields, better armour, better weapons, stronger engine for POB ships, as announced in the notes for patch 24, indicate that those ships will be more interesting to fly around.

So, while still not being what you see around every corner, they see some use. This of course requires you to have some friend and/or a good and helpful guild, but if you show a bit of initiative, i would say that this is far from impossible to achieve.

Well, lets skip the loot and go right to the heart of the POB autogun problem. We have enough issues with pilots in Y-Wings, Aggressors and Krayts sitting AFK in a turret. Now compound that with a ship that does its own gunnery work and is unthreatenable by reasonably high xp fighters. You can now autogrind xp in a group of8 on a POB.

Hmm, ok, so no loot, and no xp. Why were you wanting these again?

RP. The potential for future smuggler-related missions. Helping someone with a mission in style. Allowing a POB to cruise any part of the galaxy without having to worry about dying immediately because of a lack of offensive ability.

When I fly alone in the Nova, I'm packing a trio of 26k damage, 4 pack Spacebomb IIs. That's a lot of offensive capability I'm not lacking in.
