Thread: MAYDAY!! We've got a Pilot emergency on the GCW forum.

I still see the main problem with this being PvP.

With the new POB components coming out in the next patch, getting hit by a POB weapon in PvP will likely be a one-shot, one-kill situation for fighters.

Do you REALLY want NPC turret accuracy coupled with one-shot kills?

I certainly don't.

In all honesty, I'd like to see more NPC interaction with ships--largely in the shape of droids. Like I said before on this thread, I'd like to see a module that would allow humanoid-style droids to fly POBs with a degree of skill. With the exception of battle/assassin droids, however, droids generally are forbidden by deep programming from harming a living thing, so they shouldn't gun.

NPC gunners wouldn't actually be too bad, *if* they weren't nearly as accurate as what they are on the NPC ships--TIE Aggressors and gunboats, namely. If they were, it would be extremely unbalancing for PvP and PvE...basically, there'd be no reason to ever have a human gunner, since no human I know of can hit with that kind of accuracy.

Finally, NPC gunners would have to be directly controlled by the pilot--e.g. the pilot would have to designate targets and so forth. Though it would be far more interesting, in some ways, to have NPCs shoot automatically at the highest-threat target--which would put gunboats at the top of the list. The only time my YKL's ever been destroyed (granted I don't use it much anymore) was when I had a crew in Deep Space and one of them, not realizing exactly how things worked, opened fire on a formation of gunboats.

Personally I'd prefer an autopilot system in pob ships. All it would do is follow preset waypoints set by the pilot. The most control it would have would be to avoid objects that would stop it.

Npc gunners would just take away from the game.

I have to say, I truly love this idea, but I also see the problems with implementing it.

What a compromise of the guns auto-facing forward when there isn't a gunner and make them pilot controlled?

I think that could be a decent compromise. It would certainly be a different flying/fighting for POBs. I want to try that kind of setup with a crew sometime.Have them face forward only and me treat the Decimator as a fighter. I think I need to become more familiar with my ship first, though.

Well, to everyone that's replied "If you can't find a crew, go fly a fighter,"

That's what I do... 99.9% of my time in space is in a single seat fighter. Usually my JSF. Why? BECAUSE I CAN'T FIND A CREW!! That's the problem I'd like to solve!! And it's getting really old...I'm not asking for 4 people to be on my beck and call 24 hours a day, just maybe a pair of NPC gunners, or a gunner and a pilot... Hell, I'd even accept it if they were for rent for a few hours.

I spent 600k on a Decimator (discounted from a friend), and another million kitting it out with all sorts of nifty-looking toys. I've yet to actually fly the damn thing besides taking it up by myself and zipping around in space for a while and testing out the guns and the programs. I'd like to maybe, just maybe, fly with a full crew more than once a year.

You can relax - it's in the GCW forum, FFS. A Dev would be more likely to see it in the GAT Forum - it's quite obvious there hasn't been a Dev in the GCW forum since 2003.

You can solo in them, you just have to be quick. Other than that, unless you get a steady group interested in crewing, you're going to have to learn to live with the fact that your Decimator is going to be a glorified yacht.
