They nerfed EMP3 to uselessness thanks to all the whiners..now you want to throw it in the ring again without knowing what you are talking about?
The dragon has a top turret with a 360degree targeting area. The only place you are safe from one is underneath. Anywhere else, and you are able to be shot. If they had one big gun in the turret with WO3 running, it would only take one good shot with a high max dmg roll to finish off your ship. Ohh..and there is the lag in him lining up and firing his guns, the server seeing that and then your client receiveing all that info....means you could have flown infront of him, he shot and the hits didn't register till you had already flown past.
Yeah dont get me going on the epulse nerf. *rolls eyes* they should at least give it a pretty light show or something now so it has 'some' use, as it stands its absolutely useless, and not even a dev could argue that point with a straight face. Thankfully we privateers were recently given some great new droid commands and a killer ship, so it makes it easier to forgot the pain of the epulse nerf a bit.
I liked Alliance's pace for dogfighting. Even at that slower pace, you spawned again in a few seconds after bein' blowed up. SWG just don't have that option.
My guy is little more than a shopper. Hope they make a profession for that, soon... ;P Master TK/Master Pistoleer/Smuggler, too, not that I use it for anything.
My final hope for the game is that they'll fix MP ships... and soon, mebbe some hybrid content. Ever notice that Hutt asteroid? Man, I wish we could land on that thing and invade with a five man crew...

the guy didnt have a gunner and it was far enough off-bore that i know he didnt have a shot. i also didnt hear anything, i just suddenly blew up.
i know nothing about epulse, i was just asking if it does decent damage in pvp. anyone have an answer to that? i know its worthless for npcs and cant be used to grief anymore, but what about legit pvp where the other player shows up hostile on your radar?
IT SUCKS NOW!! That answer your question? Maybe I could link you to the many posts that were created after the nerf that recorded how EMP3 can't even do more than 25% damage to a teir1 ship now and how its a joke in PVP because it drains our capacitor, drains our sheilds, and does almost no damage to PC ships..even at close range. Kids whined about how it could be used to greif, and surprise! it started getting used to greif, so the kids whined some more and the devs nerfed it to uselessness because its easier than fixing it. You are likely looking at a case of lag as I explained in my prior post...or your particle lvl in Cntrl-O is turned down, and so his shots didn't render on your screen do to too many other particles (your lasers or a nebula or another ship nearby) There is a logical reason for it, and EMP is NOTit.
The reason the bombers work as dogfighters in PvE is because no AI is as smart as another human.Theyturn in a predetermined way with no jukes or anything. As it stands, anysingle person shipcan be used as a fighter in PvE.PvE has no baring on PvP. That said,a skilled pilot in a light fighter should still be able to takea skilled fighter in a bomber even with damage reduction due to two things, the lighter fighter's speed andit's agility. Agility is the key factor. The bombers are much slower manuevering than the light fighters. Once the lighter fighter gets on the bomber's tail (which it's harder to do right now in a fair fight), the only way the bomber should shake it is if the bomber pilot's skill far outdoes the skill of the light fighter pilot. The point that you make about the bomber only having to land a few shots to blow up the light fighter is pretty much the situation now anyway. If you don't catch someone off guard it's a roll of the dice who hits first. The bomber is just as good (if not better sinceit can carry heavier shields andadjust those to front)as the light fighter head to head. By reducing the damage in PvP, you increase the chances of the light fighter to survive the head to head and begin using it's advantages. If a bomber does slow down to it's ideal speed for manueverability, it just makes itself that much more of a target.

Keep pushing for damage reduction and not only will a bomber be able to go toe to toe with light fighters. They'll be superior to them. People are already using bombers as dogfighters in PvE because the increased firepower + increased protection outweighs the decreased maneuverability. It doesn't matter if they can't stay on the tail of an A-Wing when all they have to do is land a few shots to blow it apart.
Damage reduction increases the importance of equipment. The more powerful the weapons, the fewer shots you have to land to make the kill compared to someone with weaker guns. The more powerful the shields, the more shots you can absorb compared to someone with weaker shields. And the light fighters, like the A-Wing, will always have the weaker guns and shields/armor. It really doesn't matter that a B-Wing or Y-Wing pilot has to slow down to 1/2 speed to maximize maneuverability. His speed is completely irrelevant as so long as he has the maneuverability to get the target under his guns long enough for a clean shot away. At 1/2 speed, even my Nova Courier is nimble enough to line up the launchers on a fighter.
Under the current circumstances, the light fighter are the kings of PvP. That's one of the biggest complaints, that the bigger ships are getting wasted by A-Wings and Interceptors. Go figure. Pushing back damage will only make the lighter ships vulnerable to becoming useless as equipment stats take on a bigger role in determining who wins. Being limited in mass to equp the most powerful equipment, their feasibility naturally declines as dealing DPS becomes more import. As shield regen/second becomes more important. As armor HP to soak damage becomes more important (how many of you are using capacitors with less than 100 armor hp currently?)

well i just tested this with a friend who is a master freelance pilot and it is basicly a space pvp "iwin" button. dont know the range yet but when he hits the command every hostile player within the radius dies, just like that.
ohh and i also experianced a strange looping sound bug when i respawned. it sounded like an explosion going off every few seconds for a couple minutes. the only other time ive ever experianced this was just after than krayt unexplainably killed me in deepspace without firing.
was a nerf on epulse3 agianst npcs needed? no, i think thats total bs just like you do. is a nerf needed for pvp? yes, its bad enough that the first landed shot gets the kill, but at least in that case the person has to hit a target. right now with epulse3 all you have to do is get in range and press the button. how would you like it if there was one profession on the ground that had a skill that instantly killed every other hostile player near them?? thats basicly what this is but up in space. the only saving grace is it cant be used very often, but then agian how often do you see two hostile players in the time it takes to rechage your pilot special.
PvP damage reduction does need to happen, HOWEVER:
PvP fights should not be as ridcioulsly long as they are currently short. PvP fights should not occure like a PvE fight.
In my mind, ideally, if there was a standard loadout upon which to benchmark things, A player should have about 2 shots forgivness. Meaning, they can take about 2 hits or so and still be able to fly, after that you should be toast.
The last thing JTL needs is matrix style TKM fights that pound on each other for 5 minutes or longer, and if it ever comes to that, it would be a sad state of affairs.

I think that there should be super-high mass components for MP ships that allow for (much) greater survivability against fighters. On that, we agree.
But fighter-versus-fighter combat should be extremely quick.
Oh, and I gave up the ground game as well. Used to be a Master Rifleman. Grinding does not equal fun.

Actually, one of the thingsI'd like to see most in space (aside from the MP ship upgraded components) are instanced appearances of Imperial ships. Some of my favorite places to loot is Dathomir, right by the Imperial Space Stations. You'd think that even the stupidest Imperial Commander would call for a Star Destroyer or Nebulon B Frigate after a lone A-Wing has blown away over a hundred tie variants during the course of an hour or so.

my ship that i tested this in is an awing with a 1900 f/b lvl7 crafted shield, and about 500 f/b armor. chasis is brand spanking new, never taken any decay.
the sound was a very specific dull rumble of an explosion, never heard it before i got epulsed and it sounds nothing like a ship blowing up. i have killed over many many times (we all have, right...?) and never had this happen before.
and that sucks about the CM attack, i havent really done the ground game (im a jtl noob), i think ill wait for the combat upgrade before i go and grind out a combat profession that could be useless in a few months (and besides, the whole target enemy/press button/watch toon pound on it for a couple min just doesnt appeal to me)
Ahhh...See, that explains it all....you haven't seen the ground game to know how whacked the Devs can and have made parts of JTL. I've been here since Beta 3, and I can tell you that CM is just the tip of the iceberg, but SOE always seems to get around to fixing things....with a heavy...very heavy, lead filled hand on some issues...like adding a KD timer so BHs cant spam KD attacks and leave you on your back for the entire fight...but then they left the ability for a TKM to doa Dizzy on you and then a KD, then pummel you to the same effect...etc, etc, etc..... You get used to it tho, and learn what to avoid...in the ground game, its good to avoid CM/riflemen, and TKMs...just like in space...you avoid ME!
