No. In space PvP right now, a player's piloting skill doesn't matter much unless both players are flying the same size ship. If one player is in a large, heavy fighter, and the other is in a small, light fighter, than the player in the light fighter has a huge advantage, even if he's a poor pilot. Furthermore, even if both players are in the same size ship, most often one player takes the other player out before the loser even knew there was a fight going on. The only "piloting skill" going on in fights like that is the "skill" of seeing who can jab away at the Target Nearest Enemy Player button often enough to make sure he doesn't get ambushed.
Let me point something out.
WWII.
Japanese zero (light, agile fighter) dogfighting a coursair (larger, heavy fighter, that is not as agile). Not exactly an ideal matchup.Coursair pilots took on jap zero's and won, you mean to tell me that no skill was involved or skill didn't matter?
I think you need to do some research on air to air (ship to ship) combat.

you should try Battlefront. It's nearly one hit kill. You get hit by a rocket in that game, you go flying, very much dead.

And what happens when your idea of fun conflicts with other people's who pay the same $15 per month for the same game?
If the game play does not conflict with any rules of the game, nothing will happen. Except of course you'll piss a couple people off. This happens all the time in this game, it's nothing new and people complain about it all the time.
I'm very much of the opinion that in another few months, the pilots levels are going to even out and the money to upgrade will be there. At that point in time, it's going to be a best dogfighters game. The person who's practiced his flying and reactions will come out on top. Before I even went on a mission, I spent about an hour getting the feel of my ship.
Tested the pitch and the yaw and the rolls and figured out the best techniques for shaking bogies and continue to improve on them. People who take their flying more seriously than they do the acquisition of better ships will always shine over an average pilot with full armament and the top shields.
I don't want to be the guy that has everyone drool over his ship, I want to be the one that people say, "Holy crap, how'd he do that!?"
THEN, I will own the skies, hehehehe ![]()

To many people are comparing things to closely to real life. Yes in real life someone could jump an unsuspecting pilot and blow them up before they knew what hit them. Keep in mind here that it's a game though. I have played tons of flight games (sci-fi and traditional) and can honestly say that one shot kills are no fun for 99.9% of the people in games. The only people that I've seen that are 100% for it are those that favor "ganking" the unexpecting, because it means there is no chance of them fighting back and actually beating them. In a game one- three shot kills just push people away from what got them killed. In this case it's space PvP. Make it so there is dodging and weaving through asteroid fields and it will be fun. Make it so it takes multiple ships to take down a fully crewed multiplayer ship and it will make people fly those in pvp. Make it so it takes at least6 hits to get through shields in interceptor class ship combat (Tie Interceptor, A-Wing, Kihraxz) and you will really see who the skilled pilots are then (hint: it will be the pilots who after the first shot evade the person trying to jump them and promptly get on their tail and vape them instead). Do these things and more people will flock to PvP in space also. As it is right now, PvP is it's own worst enemy because it takes no skill.
Also to add, since someone mentioned heavier ships vs light ships earlier. Bombers should not be able to go toe to toe with light fighters, plain and simple. They aren't meant to. The only way a bomber should toast a light fighter should be if the bomber pilot has a huge skill advantage over the light fighter pilot. Escorts are to keep fighters off bombers. If bomber's in pvp can regularly take out fighters then it defeats the point of the fighter class ship. Oh, a bomber should be able to have better armor and shields (where it's mass comes in) so that it can survive more shots than a fighter, but that's pretty much it. If anything, if they do it right, it would promote usage of the turreted ships (Y-Wing, Aggressor, Krayt)so the bomber does have extra protection when isolated. I can see those surviving fighters 1v1 , but not the non-turreted options.
Keep pushing for damage reduction and not only will a bomber be able to go toe to toe with light fighters. They'll be superior to them. People are already using bombers as dogfighters in PvE because the increased firepower + increased protection outweighs the decreased maneuverability. It doesn't matter if they can't stay on the tail of an A-Wing when all they have to do is land a few shots to blow it apart.
Damage reduction increases the importance of equipment. The more powerful the weapons, the fewer shots you have to land to make the kill compared to someone with weaker guns. The more powerful the shields, the more shots you can absorb compared to someone with weaker shields. And the light fighters, like the A-Wing, will always have the weaker guns and shields/armor. It really doesn't matter that a B-Wing or Y-Wing pilot has to slow down to 1/2 speed to maximize maneuverability. His speed is completely irrelevant as so long as he has the maneuverability to get the target under his guns long enough for a clean shot away. At 1/2 speed, even my Nova Courier is nimble enough to line up the launchers on a fighter.
Under the current circumstances, the light fighter are the kings of PvP. That's one of the biggest complaints, that the bigger ships are getting wasted by A-Wings and Interceptors. Go figure. Pushing back damage will only make the lighter ships vulnerable to becoming useless as equipment stats take on a bigger role in determining who wins. Being limited in mass to equp the most powerful equipment, their feasibility naturally declines as dealing DPS becomes more import. As shield regen/second becomes more important. As armor HP to soak damage becomes more important (how many of you are using capacitors with less than 100 armor hp currently?)
There should be *some* siutations where it's possible to get a 1 shot kill.. this should be the heavy fighter against the light fighter, like a Ryk unloading on a Tie or A-Wing...
Of course, it should be hard for that to happen too. But we shouldn't be seeing any ship being able to one-shot any other ship, that mass should count for something. That's why all the lvl 8, 9, and 10 components have so much mass to them. Big heavy ship should be a flying tank, big armor, weapons and sheilds. But then the lighter ships should be faster, and damn hard to hit, to make up for the lighter weapons, sheilds and armor.
The bigger ships should last longer against the small ships. The smaller ships should fall in fewer hits against the big ships, of course, the problem should be landing those hits. Even matches should last just long enough for the person being attacked to stand a chance at reacting, maybe 4-5 good hits, if the ships are comparably equiped. Multiplayer ships should last quite a while longer against fighters..
But to sum up, no matter if they're realistic or not, one shot kills are bad for the game (keyword there, GAME). But then, so is taking 5-10 minutes in a dogfight because you can't do any real damage...

i was fighting a pc krayt last night in deep spaceand i just up and died one time without him ever firing a shot. now i guess its possible he fired at me but i heard no weapons fire and he was off bore and didnt have a shot at the time. i just all the sudden ate it and respawned in endor.
does epulse3 one-shot enemy players? i know if was nerfed agianst npcs and non hostile players, but has anyone tested it agianst enemy players before? if it does than this is a pretty big ballance issue, since no one will be able to touch freelancers. also what is the effective blast radius, is it about the same as normal weapons fire?
Give it a rest! They nerfed EMP3 to uselessness thanks to all the whiners..now you want to throw it in the ring again without knowing what you are talking about?
The dragon has a top turret with a 360degree targeting area. The only place you are safe from one is underneath. Anywhere else, and you are able to be shot. If they had one big gun in the turret with WO3 running, it would only take one good shot with a high max dmg roll to finish off your ship. Ohh..and there is the lag in him lining up and firing his guns, the server seeing that and then your client receiveing all that info....means you could have flown infront of him, he shot and the hits didn't register till you had already flown past.
