fact: the ground game is a boring affair where you press the same buttons over and over... to get a new button now and then. Once you have all your buttons, then you can go and try to out-button press other people to prove who is the biggest shut-in.

fact: the space game is a very fun, intuitive, yet complex system where both reflexes, good judgement, tactics, and skill at building a ship all come into play. It has its problems and ares where it could use improvement but as it sits, it is at the very least a lasting enjoyable experience.

fact: the ground game is getting totally remade. the space game is not.

Conclusion: since the ground game is already not worth playing, either the NGE will make it better or it will simply remain worthless. Therefore, so long as the NGE does not effect space, itcannotcause a negative outcome and is a very good thing.

You know... maybe this NGE is why we haven't gotten the bug fixes we need. It is possible that we might get them now.

Edit: Maybe we aren't really the **edit** children of the game... since we were the least screwed up thier attention was focused elsewhere.

Hi all,

I am new to the piloting profession, but I am starting to enjoy it more than the ground pounding I was doing. I havent had as much fun since Tie Fighter vs Xwing. I am hoping that these new changes will allow us to actually work in the atmosphere.

Can you imagine that? Having a comrade on the ground, call up and give coordinates and let you come in and lay waste to the area? That'd be pretty fun, I would think.

I don't know much about the profession still, however I'm learning day by day. I can only hope that they don't mess with the Pilots too much, if at all. The devs who put time into making JTL would be getting slapped in the face for making a good expansion.

Why must things always change, and why must they always seem to get worse?

Go capitalism.

What bothers me most about all of this, is their reasoning for this is entirely based on lies. Why get rid of certain classes? Oh, because not a lot of people play them. Hmmmmm, totally forget to mention that a lot of people don't play them because you people focused on the CU, and the rest of us weren't "in scope" ? Forget that you promised those people their issues would be addressed after the CU? Fail to realize that a lot of crafter/entertainers were holding on to respecs, and/or keeping alt accounts in suspended animation until they got off their butts and gave us what they promised? They cannot use the symptom of the disease they created as justification for cutting off an arm, without at least admitting they made big mistakes.

One word: disgusted

This rant only applies to space in the fact that Shipwrights and DEs have no clearly laid out future. Also, the fact that the Space game isn't being much mentioned should be very very alarming to all of you. Whatever these people leave off the table gets shoved aside. That is proven fact now. Don't let it happen again. Get answers, solid ones. Don't let them give you the runaround, or the shaft will come soon thereafter.

You know... in general I kind of excited about this change. I agree with the devs in that SWG lacks a Star Wars feel in the ground combat area. I think combat will be come more like an action game (i.e. Jedi Academy without the FPS part). Which I think will be more exciting. Sure we sacrifice some customization of professions and it gets dumbed down, but over all I think it will be an improvement. I also like that jedi will no longer be an alpha class. While that concept was good, the implementation sucked. The concept of having one profession more powerful than the others ultimately will lead to the majority of the players gravitating to that profession. Having BHs hunt jedi players was a good balance except that then we have the entire end game focused on jedi and BHs. Who knows... Pace might actually become a jedi (I do have a vader fetish after all). Then again, if it stays anything like it is now.... I will be a SW by the end of the respec.

1. Everything the devs say is a lie.

2. The professions were NOT the problem with ground combat.

3. The lack of star warsy ness in ground combat was due to equal parts of the CU, power players, and a lack of any star warsCONTENT to fight around.

4. Everyone will now be able to choose Jedi, therefore all the 10 yr olds who go for the new game will become Jedi.

5. The new combat system will have to compete with classics such as the Jedi Knight series and the new SW Battlefront 2, I doubt it will!

6. What happens 6 months from now when they change it again.

7. What happens when pilot is simplified from 9 proffesion paths to ONE pilot profession with a couple of skillls and 2 special moves with no decay and generic identical loot equipment?

This link has me interested in the future of SWG. Especially once they implement collision detection, I might actually have fun playing the ground game for the game itself instead of just enjoying people's company (which probably just means I'm sad and lonley ).

Definetly the possibility of space and ground integration is interesting. I think its cool that SOE is taking this kind of innovative risk in a MMORG. I've always hated the turn based crap, I don't play other MMORPGs, just this one for Star Wars. And I can definetly see this becoming more "Star Warsy" finally.

Besides, I've always kind of liked the way SWG continues to evolve and I've had to adapt as it did. I love the Star Wars universe but I can't say I'd still be having fun playing if it was the same game as it was two and a half years ago.

wow... somebody defintly takes most negative line of thought.

1. Possible but that doen't really apply here.

2. True but the combat system that SOE chose made the professions nessesary. We are talking about a complete change of the combat systems in which the current professions will not work (combat wise).

3. True but even pre CU it was like that. Combat has never been fast paced.

4. Possible but unlikely and who cares if they are. Jedi will no longer be an alpha class or 1.5 or whatever they call themselves. If they are no more powerfull then they will lose popularity among the "1337" kiddies, thus actually reducing thier numbers.

5. Your probably right... unless they some amazing work with the graphics (which they started with the CU) and lag.

6. Who knows... doesn't really matter at this point.

7. I think we are going to see that the ground game will become more like pilot. I am not saying that the rumors of a "space revamp" doesn't scare me, but I don't think it will kill the game. Change it maybe, but not kill it.

I think the bottom line is that some people are getting so worked up over this (to the point of attemping to sue). It may not be a bad we believe it to be. We need to be at least a little open minded and try not to be so afraid of change. It isn't always bad.

I am very sad to here the Space combat wont change. I was praying that since ground combat will now be twitch combat that the damage delt in space pvp / duel would match the ground combat to increase the fun.

Now I understand why the damage system is currently. Why you want two to three hits kills for players who are not skilled in twitch so they can have the space feel for star wars. But lets face it you actually killed space for a lot of great pilot players! In additionit has not been over whelming in bringing more intreast and fun into the game for new players. Maybe its time to rethink Space combat and allow us to have the same fun as other flight sims. Since SOE/Lucas is taking a gamble to try and bring a bigger played base to the game by converting to full twitch combat lets get space back also! This would help!!!!

No disrespec to any who like the current system however this change would increase the fun factor!

I have Master pilot in all three areas rebel/neutral and Imperial and I am bored to death with the barrel roll in yaw to target and kill system this is. I WANT TO FLY AGAIN!!!!

Thank you

Read this:

Officer = Princess Leia

Do you think you have what it takes to be an Officer? Can you handle the responsibility of other people's lives? Are you calm in a crisis?

Every army needs good leaders to organize the troops and help them perform at their peak! Whether Imperial or Alliance , if you want to be an officer, you will learn how to lead a squad and how to fight. You will keep your squad alive, no matter how hostile the terrain.

General Skills:

• Ranged Combat

• Group Buffs

• Sniper Techniques

Special:

Orbital Strike – the ability to call in heavy fire down from the sky

• Resupply Command – that initiates a Shuttle to drop off more stim packs, grenades, food and other supplies

• Blaze of Glory – heavy damage attack

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? This seems to re-enforce my speculation of atmospheric flight.

And this is why Space will now die a death. More and more of these little kiddy "Oh its to hard for me to actually learn how to do something well" players will join and complain about space until it gets destroyed too!

Sorry, not destroyed just more "fun" (mind-numbingly easy), "exciting" (no risk factors), and "Star Warsy" (no feeling of uniqueness like all the subtly different SW film characters) to quote SOE.

Oh and to Comm above, do you really honestly believe that they will allow you to fly in and blow something on the ground up or do less work and just code an explosion effect to simulate a bombardment from space.
