So, if that pans out to be true, and we get the whole atmospheric flight, I wonder how that will work with collision and stuff......

I can see it now....

Jedi pulls out a saber, BH pulls out a rifle.....

Pilot just lands on em both

Does that mean I can drop space bombs on jedi now??

Well - what to say?

Nothing mentioned on space - i doubt if there's gonna be any (mustafar without space already)..... the space is sooo faaarrr tooo complicated to manage for small children so erase it too !!!

Ground game will be much morebased on PING so e.g. me beingfrom Europe can forget to play on us servers (our international guild will fall apart) .... i dont wanna hear that child talk - "lol i pwnd u again" when my ping sux!!!

So far i can say all this changes seem to me as complete sux - instead of building functional GCW, they worked on some mutation of Quake III Arena in SWG => ROFLMAO.

Hard to say. Official word's always been atmospheric flight would be too much of a strain to introduce, but the way everything seems to be up in the air here, no pun intended, I wouldn't rule it out. And I'm very hesitant to discuss things I don't know for certain--i.e., pretty much everything--but I have heard a little talk about plans for more ground/space integration with these upcoming changes.

That said, I wouldn't put your faith in anything until you hear solid evidence or can test it yourself. The last thing I want to do is get people's hopes up without a damn good reason.

My personal opinion on all this, though, is it could end up being really crazy, but many of the concepts do seem to be intended to do what so many of us have been asking for for so long--make this game feel more like Star Wars. However, as of now, it's simply impossible to judge either way. All we've got so far is hearsay, and hearsay won't hold up in a court of law and shouldn't in the court of public opinion, either.

As a side note, "court of public opinion" is a great phrase.

What your saying about the lack of space changes headed our way isn't 100% true. If you head over to the feature on www.gamespot.co.uk it says at the very end of the article that players may be able to jump in, fly around, then land their ships on space stations etc

Perhaps Im being optimistic but I get the impression that the combat changes are a tiny portion of whats to come (in fact it more or less says that in the community letter).

I would expect a JTL version on the ground to be released soon (since lauch they have been saying wewould one day be able tocustomise and add weapons to our vehicles, own tanks and pilot ATAT) along with a space revamp. I dont think we have heard anything about the capital ships simply due to them being quests. Its been made very clear that in order to lvl you must do a series of quests perhaps this is an extension of this added content.

I think we havn't seen any new content recently (including Mustafar) due to major changes headed our way. With the nature of how the ground game is going I wouldn't expect the changes to reflect on how we fly/fight but rather the scope of space (space is entirly open you can fly from one planet to the other without hyperdrive, land on space stations, massive increase of GCW content). With the addition of the YT landing (and being able to run around the grounded ship) and the player city perks allowing the user to call a ship at will. I would expect these changes to also head our way in the near future (December?)

I just thought of something else. In the Gamespot feature it talks about how players will encounter and take missions from key characters from the films on a regular basis. If you think back to the Fanfest video of capital ships the bridge of the Star Destroyer had numerous villans (Vader, Boba Fett etc) Could this all tie in?

If we were to get a version of JTLfor the ground (tanks ATAT etc) then it is perhaps one of the reasons why ground combat is changing in the direction of a fps.It is possible thatthis new combat system is being implimented in order for the combat on foot, vehicle and space to tie together useing roughly the same principle

Does anyone have the capitol ship video handy? I seem to remember it was rather FPS-y...

Also didn't they say "capitol ships are programed but we are trying to find a way to impliment them without breaking everything"?

all I am saying is that maybe you are right... maybe the capitol ship video came off the desk of a NGE developer.

The implications of that aside... I think that if done right this new game could be fun... it is just that giving away bonuses to vetrans just to keep them will backfire badly.

I found this buried in the gamespot article:

Gamespot wrote:

Details on other aspects of the game, such as the ultimate basis of the upcoming story, as well as exactly what will happen to the game's space travel and space combat gameplay, remain scarce. However, MacIntyre suggests that the fact that the game has incorporated elements from other Star Wars games (such as how the homicidal droid HK-47 from Knights of the Old Republic appears in the Trials of Obi-Wan expansion pack) may be telling, and that players shouldn't be surprised to see Galaxies look to other such games for inspiration, if that inspiration can, in fact, lead to a more-cohesive Star Wars experience. For example, MacIntyre suggests that the on-foot-in-vehicle mechanics of LucasArts' upcoming shooter, Battlefront II, might figure into the way space vehicles will work. We'll have to wait to see what's in store for those systems later. For now, the massive update to Galaxies, and the free-to-play new player experience, are scheduled for launch on November 15.

Really not sure what to make of that...

At one point it also talks about how we will see a lot more movie sequences and shows a picture of the Millenium Falcon leaving a space station (from the new player experiance). Could this possibly be the type of transition we will see when landing and taking off from a planet or space station?

Ug... I would rather stay more XvT than Rogue Squadron TYVM...

Improved 2D flyers are for the birds... Having said that what is space combat like in BF 2?
